Boston: One dead, one captured, city re-opened

There is an incredible amount of remote assholery in this thread. After the recent events, I have zero idea how anyone can question the safety authority here are providing us.

this is a dumb slippery slope argument that is used by nutcases.

"Universal background checks will lead to identifying gun owners and full confiscation!"

It isn't illegitimate or unreasonable to fear those ends, especially when they have been historically done elsewhere, and when it most certainly has vocal advocates for those exact aims today. I don't find willful ignorance of those things or the reduction of everyone disagreeing with your premise down to "nutcases" logical or particularly well-reasoned.

Fake. Someone posted other pics with different messages.

Just a different angle.

I still don't understand the details of the "shootout." It sounds like:

* Cops chased them by car to this neighborhood. At some point, the older brother gets out of the car and is gunned down in a hail of bullets, possibly throwing explosives (or blowing himself up?)

* Younger brother drives away, running over his (dead?) brother in the process

Then what happens? Did they recover that Mercedes? Where was it? Did they follow that car, or were they afraid of the explosives so were hanging back? Did older bro sacrifice himself to let his younger brother get away? Did they see the younger brother leave the vehicle at any point?

The lack of those details is frustrating, but that's they key to helping to understand why they didn't catch this kid right then and there.
Car was left on the scene and he got away on foot while they called in the bomb squad

So you criticize the response and say it shows the terrorists win, and then tell us the terrorists always win? If defeat is inevitable, defeat can't be the basis of your criticism.
You can't win, but you can at least try to minimize your losses. Might seem like a sad stance, but it's really all one can do when fighting somebody who's only in it to make his opponent lose as much as possible.

Well, I do know that there are a handful of actual ones but I don't see them engaging in this 4th amendment debate.

Remember kids, don't discuss anything unless you're an expert in the subject.

There's an incredible amount of assholery in the world as a whole.

So you believe people should be punished for exercising their rights? How are they rights if you are arrested for using them?

Its not a punishment, its getting this person out of their way so they can look for a suspected terrorist. They are going to search the home. Maybe if they find something unrelated and try to charge you for it you can fight it, but that's not what they're after. Its a dumb argument. Why would you refuse entry in this situation? It just doesn't make sense.

This is what I wish the "PLEASE DON'T BE X" people would recognize.

The "PLEASE DON'T BE X" people already know these two individuals don't represent an entire race, they are worried that the rest of the United States won't be thinking like them and unfairly label them in the process.

If you've got nothing to hide, why wouldn't you let them do a quick search, find nothing, and move on?

How people can actually be offended/bothered about their houses being searched in such circumstances, no matter what the maths say, is beyond me. Jesus Christ.

Probably because of this ol' thing called the 4th amendment. Pesky isn't it?

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

It hasn't been confirmed, but this is what I heard (paraphrasing):

"Subject in custody, subject we are looking for."

"Repeat, confirm you have subject in custody, white hat guy?"

"Subject in custody, being cuffed, cannot confirm, but appears to be."

Legally fresh pursuit is also referred to as hot pursuit.

You may make a distinction as a matter of policy, but neither a fresh pursuit nor a hot pursuit requires a warrant.

It's not policy but supreme case law that defines it. I'll find the case when I go back in Sunday if I remember. We're on the same team anyway because I think the searches would be legal if the homeowner refused.

I thought I heard 'target thought to be spotted, unconfirmed', 'yes, white hat target'.
Hard to tell what they're saying exactly, but I don't think they apprehended anyone yet.

Very well-spoken family friend of the suspects being interviewed by Blitzer right now.

Knew them through school and extra-curricular activities

If he is alive, I wonder what is going through his head.

Dude must be either scared shitting his pants, or fuck all prepared to die.
I've always wondered about this in manhunt situations. Knowing you really can't go anywhere or do anything. An entire city wants you gone, to put it mildly. I wonder what that must feel like.
