Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

PhyreEngine is developed at the London studio I think, maybe Cambridge is involved. XDev supervises and assists external first party development in Europe (hence the name). They're involved in everything from Beyond: Two Souls to Table Mini Golf.

Thanks for correction.

so this leave us with Lucid Games and why they don't make a small Blur/Geometry Wars spiritual successors on Vita.

Probably some indie game... Can we just get some AAA 3rd party game please. That Adam Boyes guy is a failure.. he doesn't deserve his job

If the new IP is like Guacamelee, I am perfectly okay with no AAA games. Guacamelee is a game that in the PS1 or even PS2 era, be a full retail release anyway.

Pre-ordered Muramasa standard edition from US amazon as seems no publishing outside the states(?)...
Ss, Ys Celeteca. Spent $500 on games since purchase plus 15months psn.. Huge psp & vita back log and I'm more than good for 2013. Awesome hardware.

:/ not that anyone should say bad things on twitter
you could express your wishes to him? https://twitter.com/amboyes

I could but theres no need to be a dick...I didn're really mean that last piece but seriously I wish Sony could just moneyhat some big 3rd party exclusives for the vita. If they are scarred about not making profit on the vita version, they can port it to the PS3 after the game has run its course on the vita.

They're not going to tease big announcements via Twitter.

You people complaining about the great job the indie guys are doing for Playstation is beyond annoying.

Sorry, but I didn't buy a Vita for indie games. I bought it for "console gaming on the go", which is what Sony advertised as. What's the point of having a handheld as powerful as it is, when very few games actually use that power?

If you like Indie games, why not get a tablet that has 100x the amount of indie games, often many of the ones that the Vita gets.

Tablets don't have buttons or d-pads or analog sticks.

Buttons.
Vita has awesome hardware/controls for these indie games. and the Vita provides an experience the tablet is not able to (ever)

and I am having fun with these indie games :/ and am excited for more titles that Shahid and team are trying to bring to us. (yea.. Sony did advertise "console-on-the-go" but in the meanwhile, I'm enjoying these games I otherwise wouldn't have played :X)

hmm there's no need to be a dick in the expressions of those wishes either. he may reply and even provide some insight on the matter.

I shudder with fear trying to imagine playing Guacamelee on my iPad mini.

IMO most of the indie games are garbage. I want retail AAA games. Thats what attracted me to the vita. CONSOLE ON THE GO!! thats what I want not some refuse dump for old ports of indie games. Some indie games are good obviously but the vita needs more than cross platform indie games.

You're missing the point. It's one thing to not care about indie games, another to bitch and complain because someone at Sony signed another game for their platforms. It's getting beyond ridiculous now.

If you want to get to the bottom of the Vita and support from big publishers please do go ahead. There's even a hot NPD thread now where you can bring that up. Shitting on indie games is just not the way to go.

(And not that I care to have this discussion, but the reason I have a Vita is because it allows for games that use buttons and can't be played on tablets because of it. I couldn't care less about graphical prowess - case in point, Guacamelee was far more impressive to me with its 60fps and beautiful and sharp style than than the headaches I got from the screen tearing in Bioshock Infinite.)

This.

I feel like I've been in the Twilight Zone the past few months - the contrast between the flood of Indie port announcements and the dearth of anything else is stunning.

No one here spent $250 to play the look-a-like retro themed games they bought for $3 on Steam and never touched again.

opinion heard. but you really need to give them a try, some of them are gold.
and most of them were redone for the Vita anyway.

agree with Massa here. there's really no need to crap on these indie games (some people love them and enjoy them you know)

and yes do something about wanting those big name titles, tweet those in-charge, setup petitions, email major news sites. do something :/ (yea.. i know not all of that is gonna work. but for indie games I really want, I just tweet those guys.. and sometimes @yosp.. well they may not read.. even if they do, they may not listen. at least I tried)

See this is what annoys me. None of us say we want less AAA game or that we have enough AAA games. We want more. The difference is we don't WHINE every time we get MORE games just because they aren't AAA. Yes, we want more, but we want more games in general. It's stupid to be mad when they put more HIGHLY critically acclaimed games on Vita just because you don't like that type of game. I'm not going to whine if Sony were to announce a high-budget JRPG just because I don't like or want JRPGs.

This. There is not a single device in the world, except for the PS Vita, where you can get a portable hard-core gaming experience like Guacamelee: awesome high-res graphics, perfect control thanks to the best dpad ever made, great integration with the OS (+ trophies) and even a frickin co-op mode if you have a PS3. 3DS? Couldn't deliver the high-res graphics. Smartphones or tablets? Couldn't deliver the exquisite controls necessary to pull of the moves required in this game.

Ugh, can we keep the irrational tablet-hate out of the Vita thread guys. There's a big library of great games that are better on tablets and a big library of great games that are better on Vita and we should just leave it at that.

I agree that there's no need to hate on tablets. However, given that the 3DS and the Vita constantly encounter the "who needs this anymore?" argument, I think it's valid to point out where these devices excel and in which areas they are much, much better than touch-based devices like tablets.

I don't think they are hating on the tablet... :/
it was a response to an irrational hate on indie games

Oh hey guys what's--

Ugh it seems I woke up the sleeping dogs. Man I just wish Sony would put some effort into securing some AAA titles. Its even disturbing that E3 is so close and there aren't any leaks (which means there is nothing to leak). Indie is OK, but when I can play majority of the indie games being announced on my toaster then there is a problem.

The way I see it, a lot of these indie devs will find a new home on a proper console with buttons. They will profit and go on to bigger projects on the same handheld.

the dev who want buttons and "proper"platform already have Steam to put their games on which is way bigger than Vita.

PSVita should not be indie only platform,it not supposed to be this way and I know I didn't bought my Vita for just random old indie games I already have and played on my PC or phones years ago,Vita should be like 3DS (aka a real handheld system) were there are the the latest unique handheld games made to take advantage only on it of it along side with fewer smaller games from smaller dev on eshop,on Vita we got nothing and few old port of indie games.

You are my doppleganger toto, I agree with everything you have said.

not that I agree with everything...
but I was thinking.. it's not so much that Nintendo supports the 3DS.. but rather the 3DS platform is just more interesting to develop for?

with its dual screen, stylus and etc.. it allows developers to explore more possibilities (especially with that dual screen)

(i don't mean to dismiss the Vita.. I love it <3)

People bought a Vita for console quality game on the go but were seeing retro indies games instead. Nothing wrong with indie games its that were not getting enough big games.

If I knew the Vita would be an indie machine, I would have just stuck with mobile gaming for that. Heck, I could have put the time into making my own game.

Yep, because I'd rather play Aliens CM, a shitty Borderlands port, or a Walking Dead Survival Instinct port over something like Guacamelee or Hotline Miami. Get out of here with that AAA bullshit. The indie titles are coming regardless how many AAA titles are coming. It isn't like if no indie titles were coming, there would suddenly be a steady stream of AAA titles flowing onto the Vita like a chocolate fountain.

Don't blame indie games just because they're coming onto the system and AAA titles aren't.

not really,as a 3DS owner I don't see anyone "exploring" any thing that new with the system,it's the same DS and console games on the go you have.

it's this was,Nintendo pushed 3DS full force with every thing they got first party wise and getting exclusives on it, third party publishers saw that and knew that 3DS as platform will have future and strong support even after it's weak first year, and they jumped in, sales rises and everything went good.

Sony abandoned Vita really really fast, treating it like nothing in E3 2012, not trying to moneyhat any IP or port big games even when developer asked (Boarderland/Gearbox and AB/Rovio),giving all focus to the 7 years old PS3 instead of Vita(I mean hell..even PSP IPs is now on PS3,just think about this for a sec)throwing two small spin off games for it in 2013,publishers see this and jump out from it.

Sony just didn't care to push and support and didn't even try to do anything.

Retail games matter, big names matter, the shitty Walking Dead Survival Instinct was on npd top 10.

going indie only and ignoring new games and big names will not help getting people buying the platform, platform wont sell and all publishers wont put anything on it(we are almost here by the way) and with when everyone (owners and publishers) leave the system because they realize it's not for them and don't offer them variety of big and small games and genres even these indie guys wont throw their old ports on it any more.

Um, $250 SHOULDN'T buy you a machine to play games that are the least demanding.

I agree. More games is always good for Vita, but I don't like a future where Vita games are predominantly indies.

Just trying to live with I got. I come to these forums to hear about general stuff. Not just beat a decomposing horse over and over.
I hope Vita gets new "AAA" games down the line. But I for one am totally fine with paying for $8 on games that are super fun instead of $40 on games I could play on a consoles and are jank as shiz on the Vita.

wow you really cherry picked your examples eh?

Personally I dont mind the indie games and am overly hyped for terraria but the price of entry is waaaaay to high for just that and I believe thats the major of the complaints.

Um, $250 SHOULDN'T buy you a machine to play games that are the least demanding.

The point is that people are criticizing these games when it isn't their fault that EA, Capcom, Konomi, SE etc aren't putting exclusives or games you want to see on the system. Blame Sony or blame those publishers, don't blame the indie developers. That's just fucking dumb.
