My biases? I would not let a SWAT team enter my house under any circumstances whatsoever. But, like I said, I wouldn't have been given a choice. And, yes, that's a fucking problem.
What if he gave you a high five first?

That is pretty intense. Knowing the situation, that guy has balls of steel to go out and check like that.As absolutely batshit-insane as the past 24 hours have been, I think one of the most astounding things to come out of it was the guy who saw the blood on the tarp, and THEN still went and looked into the boat. Holy shit every time I imagine doing that, and seeing someone in there, it just makes me feel so unsettled.
It's okay, you're 19, rebellious, infowars, and fuck the police, and NWO, etc, etc. This phase will pass.Yeah cause a teenager with small arms so justifies a tank
I don't want it both ways, I want the cops to do there job without violating my rights
I guess your done making valid remakes since you started name calling?
Take a picture of it and show it to 100 people. I bet 99 of em would call it a tank. The police have no right to use our tax dollar to buy one
I would not have consented to let police into my house, no. They can take my word for it that the suspect is not there. Can they not?
EV is not a troll.
There was nothing unreasonable about what the cops were doing today
Perhaps we are not taking about the same thing but still..
how is that reasoning utter shit ? my family, being Muslims, are always taking about how they are or can be discriminated against..but personally i don't whine about it because i say to everyone "if you ain't done nothing wrong, you ain't have nothing to fear"..hence i am willing to be discriminated against because of origins or skin color a bit if it insures the safety of the general populace and advice my fellow "please don't be" club members..
That's quite a fantastic conclusion to draw on someone that just believes their property should not be searched. This really shows a level of stunted ability to function in a modern society. I'd be willing to bet you have a very hard time at life.

I think that's arguable.
They shut down a major city for a day, spent $300 million doing it, had hundreds of thousands of citizens cowering in their closets in response to one armed teenager, created a spectacle searching home to home for the kid (which by the way, didn't even work), and in the end it sort of sends the wrong message and creates the wrong incentives for future terrorists.
straightforward violation of the 4th Amendment.

Wait.
There's actually people here bitching about the house searches? People saying they wouldn't have let the swat teams search their parents' house in this situation today?
Must be trolls. Must be.
And why shouldn't steps be taken to protect people on our flights, since, you know, countless people were unwilling participants in a suicide bombing that day. What's a little inconvenience to make sure a loved one gets home alive?
This taking away freedom stuff goes way too damn far. I don't like the patriot act either, but if it helps to keep people I care about safe, so be it. We aren't giving up nearly as many rights as people believe we are. The level of government control some folks fear is right around the corner is never going to happen, not in this country, because we wouldn't stand for it.
Ya, I think I'm done, it was fun everyone.
EV, you're one of the smartest motherfuckers on GAF, but damnit if you aren't stubborn to a fault sometimes.
Fixed.

A Justice Department official told the Associated Press that Tsarnaev will not be read his Miranda rights because the government is invoking a public safety exception. That exception allows law enforcement to engage in a limited and focused unwarned interrogation of a suspect and allows the government to introduce the statement as evidence in court, the wire service reported.
The house-to-house search was interesting when I was following this whole event unfold. It's hard to say what anyone would do in that situation, but most folks would probably give the ok regardless of how they truly felt (How often does a SWAT team greet you at the door with a armored vehicle right on the street with snipers all around?). However, I think mostly everyone would feel a bit at unease with it.
A few sites that were talking about this:
1) http://www.slate.com/articles/news_...ertown_door_to_door_search_by_police_for.html
2) http://myfreedomfoundation.com/blog/liberty-live/detail/can-the-police-search-my-home-for-a-bomber
It'll be interesting as this will be discussed in the future. Not sure what really happened though as far as the searches go and whether it was voluntary or not. Isn't much concrete information out there on it aside ramblings/comments.
(which by the way, didn't even work)
Yeah in a circumstance like this, I'd let them. Probably with just a make it quick and good luck at the end.Agreed. I personlly would allow them to search, but I'd understand why somebody else wouldn't.
You mean tank, we prefer to use proper nomenclature in this thread.
I followed this story fairly closely, but I don't remember seeing a treaded vehicle anywhere...ya know for the sake of proper nomenclature.

While we are talking about rights, did this already get brought up?
http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/04/19/boston-marathon-suspect-shot-dead/
I didn't even realize that they had a public safety exception for Miranda. Anyone know if that public safety exception for Miranda rights have been tested in court?
"One armed teenager" who may have had explosives. They didn't know for sure, but don't you think it was worth extra time and money to go the extra mile to make sure people were safe; to make sure that they got the guy? They shut down a major city for a day, spent $300 million doing it, had hundreds of thousands of citizens cowering in their closets in response to one armed teenager, created a spectacle searching home to home for the kid (which by the way, didn't even work), and in the end it sort of sends the wrong message and creates the wrong incentives for future terrorists.
Why are you still crying about the word tank, i already said it was hyperbole. tank/apc whatever. The police shouldn't have spent our money on it. Not like we are in a economic slow down or anythingI present to you Fahrenheit's absolute proof that there was indeed a tank.
WASTED?Not gonna buy into the framed bit but would like to point out that a lot of our tax money got wasted for this/
WASTED?
This is exactly what Tax money should go to.

Yup wasted, tax money shouldn't be spent on tanks err I mean APC for the city PD being im sure the text books in the city schools are about 10 years out of date.
Wasted
It's not like they said "SWEET! Terrorist on the loose, we finally have a reason to go out and buy that APCthat we've always wanted to slip past Mr and Mrs taxpayer."Tank
They've probably had it for years.
