Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

This is ridiculous. Remote Play has existed for over 6 years now; the PS4 will have technology to make it better than it is now, and so they showed it. How the hell do you jump to that conclusion is beyond me.

Sony hasn't announced an original retail game for Vita in months, that's why.

Do people also whine when Nintendo announces console ports for 3DS, like DKCR? Or is that just for Vita/PSP games?

Huh? Neither of the games I listed were ports ... They were too original outsourced games but with dramatically different results. By all accounts Next Level Games took someone else's series and ran with it despite having a very poor history without Nintendo. Nihilistic also had a poor history when taking on Resistance but instead of improving with Sony guidance they just stayed the same.

So, anyone has any idea how the new ratchet is on the vita ? framerates, res, etc...

also i'm currently posting this on my vita! the browser is really smooth now! love it

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault hasn't been released on Vita yet.

Tearaway is last first party game (Invizimals is by non Sony studio) and it was announced for Vita in August 2012,this is pretty damn sad.

said it many times before,Vita Current situation is mostly Shu Yoshida's fault.

Invizimals?

In any case, didn't Nintendo just blow the entirety of their lineup for the rest of the year (assuming all those titles make their expected dates)? While Sony announced Jak & Daxter which will be out in June, before the majority of those Nintendo titles. Given how the Ruin, Killzone, Call of Duty, Final Fantasy X, etc. announcements turned out, I don't necessarily think it's the best idea to announce stuff as soon as possible.

Sony refers to all titles they published as first party titles. Titles produced by independent studios are referred to as externally developed (first party titles).

Who had Shu's place in 2006, when the PSP was the same age as the Vita? Third party support was obviously miles better since the only other mobile platform at the time was the DS.

Why not? Killzone we are stuck waiting 13 months for, Tearaway is 14. Ruin is dead, Call of Duty was just a name for over a year, and FFX is obviously put on the back burner because now the PS4 is SE's focus. Where's Bioshock?

Toto's censuring of Yoshida reminds me a lot of how some people feel about Iwata. Likable and personable but thought to be ruining their respective companies.

Except for the fact its not grounded in reality at all.

People are mad at Iwata because the Wii U is showing the struggles of HD development for them. I guess the problem for Sony is the Vita is a device that should have never existed in the first place.

As much as I love my Vita it was a terrible idea from the start. There was a dwindling consumer market for a premier handheld gaming device and Nintendo learned that the hard way and reacted to it. Sony couldn't do much and thus haven't done much.

That ain't on Shu. If you want to point the finger at somebody then it goes straight to Kaz really.

To an extent its most on how you look at it really, if you look at it from a console perspective he does a great job imo, on the vita side....not so much.

in Takao and Massa discussion,Takao said" Sony has given up on producing native software for Vita, so I think talking about Sony own studios and Vita.

Phil Harrison(till 2008) then Kaz Hirai hold that position for few months then Shu.

Phil Harrison. He held the position from the creation of Worldwide Studios in 2005, until he left in 2008.

Not seeing what you're arguing against here? The ones I listed were all very early announcements that didn't turn out well. Waiting until the development team had a likely release window would probably have been better. Seems Sony thinks that too, since the recent announcements have been Summer/Fall releases.

Phil Harrison who I personally favor for signing Media Molecule and Quantic Dream.

I actually agree with toto in his dislike of Yoshida. He cancelled Eight Days, killed Studio Liverpool and Zipper.
I just don't have to repeat myself on every page.

Yet, all Sony has announced is a Jak collection and indie games. Where are the AAA titles, bringing the console experience that Sony promised?

.

and sad thing is the quality of Sony first party (not only on handheld) went to crap since after 2008.

and his recent weird decisions on focusing on PS3(like GT6 on PS3,Santa Monica/GOWA on PS3) is just so bizarre...but oh well he posts on Twitter so I guess he is cool or something.

*and before Sid attack me,this is not because he rejected Folklore 2*

Except for Nintendo with their Direct format, companies wait for the big trading shows. None of them already happened this year.

Yes PS4 will be the main focus but people could still wait before they judge now. Expecting to have the announcemets just now isn't more realistic.

Did you watch E3 last year? We didn't get shit for the Vita. We had to wait another two months for gamescom, which is much smaller than E3.

Phil Harrison was a curse for Sony, the man was fucking insane.

He showed:
Killzone 2 CG at E3 2005
Motorstorm CG at E3 2005
Made investments in unworthy studios and games which never made any profit at all: LAIR, Heavenly Sword, Genji 2, Folklore, Resistance and more (Getaway PS3, 8 Days, probably some more cancelled games from SCEE).

The man was incompetent, Yoshida is a way way WAYY better than him. And GT6 for PS3 will print money for Sony just like GOWA. The only bizarre decisions Yoshida has made is launching Beyond and Last of Us on PS3.

On the other hand Phil Harrison pushed for Singstar, Buzz and Eyetoy if I remember correctly which earned a lot of money in Europe. He saw that casual train coming.

Yes and they said it was wrong of them to do so. Still why should it be more viable to expect announcements just now?

While things do look pretty down at the moment I think Sony would end up waiting for some of their upcoming events to announce any larger announcements, especially since they dont really do anything like nintendo direct. Some people are concerned about there being no leaks on info, but we have not really gotten many leaks for the PS4 either so that how you want to.

I mean do wr have any idea what Sony Bend, and the Gravity Rush teams are working on currently?

As for Zipper, and Liverpool as much as I enjoyed their games(especially Whipeout) their games just were not making money over the course of multiple titles, so I cant fault Sony for cutting off dead weight, reguardless of how much I love them. Its why I really dont understand the situation with The Last Guardian its just Bizzare whats gone on with that game.

You just said E3 will be focused on the PS4. Where is Sony going to fit Vita announcements into that?

I am saying that we will see if Sony is dropping the ball with the Vita after the shows. If they again have a lackluster lineup than we all know whats happening.

I don't think now is the right moment to draw conclusions.

Epic Mickey 2 Vita is a first-party game. :(

Which is pretty sad. Had the funds used to pay for this game, cod and ac:l been invested into a gta or gt game....it would have been a different story. Instead we got three garbage games. Vita's failure is entirely on Sony. The 3DS is showing that there is a market for handhelds and SCE is just pissing it away

You just said E3 will be focused on the PS4. Where is Sony going to fit Vita announcements into that?

This is true. No one will care for any Vita coverage at E3 since its the big unveil for the big consoles. Sony should do an early pre-E3 event just for Vita, but knowing them, they are probably going to announce another PS2 rehash. Yoshida will tweet, "look Jak is fun, go get it"!

Done with ranked matches in DOA5+. Leaves simple matches to get to my 500 online matches played trophies. Leona, you should search in that this evening and play me. >_>

Wipeout's online is dead or so incredibly frustrating to go through the campaign. Curse whoever thought having a trophy to doing 200 "WIN ONLINE RACES AND DESTROY WHOEVER AGAINST PRO PLAYERS THAT ARE LEFT LOLOLOLOLOL" to a miserable existence.

It needs to be said that Yoshida (and Harrison before him) worked on the first party software side. They're not going to sign Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Monster Hunter, etc. for the platform because that's not their job to deal with third parties. Hindsight is 20:20, and Vita being a more recent platform obviously has time in its' favour but does anyone really even remember early first party PSP games? There was WipEout, Twisted Metal, Ape Escape, Syphon Filter, Socom, Hot Shots Golf, and a tonne of forgettable stuff from SCEE and SCEJ.

You'll have to transfer it from the PS3, or at least that was the case when I wanted to re-DL my copy of it a few months ago. It's awesome and looks great although some of the physics in some games is a little off due to the emulation - you won't really notice it unless you're a HUGE Sonic the Hedgehog nut like me. IIRC, I only noticed it a bit in Sonic, everything else was fine and even then it's still a blast to play Sonic on the Vita.

Is it worth it for the other games? Namely Vectorman? I have no nostalgic attachment to those Sonic games, so I don't really like them.

I've looked. In Japan, the game is sold separately as a physical release, and in the US, you can buy a download voucher from Gamestop.com. But nothing for Canada.

Make a EU PSN and buy the game then play it on your Canada PsN account. Not that hard.

I could bet you a hundred bucks that this year's E3 will be worse for the vita than last year. I doubt we'll get any new titles. Heck I can boldly say there will be no new titles announced at E3. For the vita at E3, it will be a sizzle reel of already released games and all the indie games that were released.

I picture Sony making a collage of already released games and go "see vita has gaemz!" meanwhile 80% of the games are ports and other irrelevant shit. I bet they'll even add PSM games to boost up the quantity.

It's my main gaming console these days so I'm not too bothered about ports but if there are no new announcements (ports or otherwise) at E3 that would be horrible, would have to recalibrate my patience.

Vita doesn't have too much to worry though, it's not like there will be another dedicated handheld that can do what it does any time soon, Sony have time but not forever.

I've been tempted to buy Tactics Ogre, but I bought it for the PSP, and I sucked at it. Couldn't even get past the 3 hour mark. Any recommendations on building a stronger party?

Really regret buying the GTA psp games.

I just think psp titles look so damn ugly on the vita that I can't handle it. Even something simple looking like War of the Lions is just hideous to me now.

I think that could depend on if the rumor of a second event before E3 is true or not. If thats the case then they could have a few options as the one major issue for Sony is just the number of things that they need to talk about between PS3, Vita, and PS4. Sony is well known for pushing out allot of stuff the week before E3 though.

Im not getting my hopes up other then the possibility of more great indie games coming, but if Sony spends no time with the Vita at or right before E3 ,Then I know atleast some journalists will question them on why. Ign usually does a decent job of getting Shu on their podcast during E3.

And that has nothing to do with Remote Play. They'll announce big games at major gaming events, like usual. If you want out of the blue announcements on the Playstation Blog you'll have to make do with the likes of the Jak & Daxter collection or a new Invizimals.

Ah, so that's your argument. Might as well look at Tarsier Studios, who went from Rag Doll Kung Fu to one of the highest rated games published by Sony. Or Sanzaru Games, who went from some small mediocre games to make Sly Cooper 4, a game that reviewed and sold well. Not to mention the many smaller games that Sony helps out on, like Sound Shapes or Escape Plan.

Alrighty Vitabros. I woke up today and turned on my computer hoping to see word of a Vita redesign or larger memory cards but alas: no such luck.
Anywaay I'm going to try and get a group of VitaBros to get an online Trophy in Sonic All Stars. Who's in?

Considering there's advertising for R&C on the Vita store, I expect it to be released next week.

Really hope it does though, I want to sell my PS3 copy and get something else.

I just realised that the Xperia Z has basically the same screen size as the Vita. It's like holding the Vita's screen without all the buttons + the fat backside. It's pretty crazy.

I have a question if anyonr knows the answer, I have been debating between getting blaz blue, DOA5+, and Street Fighter x Tekken, I currently have the DOA demo, but I was wondering if I buy it do I have to redownload the whole thing, or can I just download the unlock key since the demo seems to be the full game.

Still not sure if I want BB,or DOA more though was kind of hoping that Chrono Phantasma might come to Vita at some point, especially with GG coming this week.

Even if we get CP, CSEX is worth getting cause it has all the story in the series up to that point, which CP likely won't have. If you dont care about that, you may as well just get DOA.

What could they possibly improve with a redesign? The Vita's hardware is perfect.

Well, other than battery life. My only real hardware complaint with the Vita is that horrible creaking feeling when you move the X/O/[]/TRI buttons against the plastic surrounding it, bothers me so much..

@Below: I'd get the games. I'd go with Soul Sacrifice and swapping out Luigi for an Animal Crossing preorder.

Man, Im so conflicted. I have $90 in BB RZ cards.

Part of me wants to buy the 32GB card already, buy at the same time i don't really feel like I need it. I usually buy physical, and I can just get a few games instead. Plus I'm really hoping for a 64GB announcement already.

32GB card or Persona and Luigi's Mansion?

And on that note, for those who played P4G, that or Soul Sacrifice? I enjoyed the demo of SS but I never played a Persona game, and I might enjoy that more.

I would be up for some Sonic Racing Transformed but pretty busy today.

...

This is the approach/thinking that I am counting on, otherwise it's pretty bad.

If you don't need the 32GB, and it seems like you don't, get Persona 4 Golden and Luigi's Mansion. Or P4G and Soul Sacrifice.

The original Luigi's Mansion on GameCube was one of my least favorite Nintendo games.
