Boston: One dead, one captured, city re-opened

Yup and he can't defend himself when his brother pins all the blame on him. He can say anything he wants and no one can refute it. (i.e. "he forced me to do X. he said he'd kill me, I was afraid for my life, etc..) of course then he'll be asked why he didn't just go to the police and the drama continues...

Oh, I doubt he was forced with the threat of death, and I will be surprised if he uses that as an excuse. I imagine he was impressionable, and was influenced by his brother.. for him it may have been a power high, a chance to 'do something'. Im not saying he isn't responsible for his actions, because he is and was well aware of what he was doing. But the fact is, he doesn't seem like an extremist, he did not kill himself, he did not flee after the bombing, did not take credit. He seemed like a kid who thought he could get away with a horrible crime, and enjoyed the thought of that. This is all assumption, and I obviously know nothing, but as an outsider with limited knowledge looking in it is the vibe I get.

Another shot of everyone's favorite tactical dog.

Such a pretty dog.

Yeah, a Terrorist is a terrorist. At most people are feeling sad because he was just a kid and probably had a bright future ahead of him and just fuck all of that and decided to attack his country.

To me, its interesting you say "his" country. I would consider him Chechan, more so than American. I doubt he considered himself American.
Similarly, that "Australian" cleric is likely Lebanese and not Australian.

I'm pretty sure that disruption is what they thrive on. The more effect (physical/psychological/economical) they have, the more successful they consider themselves.

Now terrorists know they might be able to shut down a whole city without much effort. These two kids were actually pretty ineffective at what they did and still had a huge effect on a whole city.

As I said in another thread, I think we should stop figuring out what terrorists "want" like it's the fucking battle of wits from Princess Bride. What they want is to kill a lot of people. They'll "win" when the entire country is smoking rubble. Which will never happen, so they'll never "win", so stop trying to fucking figure them out and just do what we can to stop them beforehand, or apprehend them afterward, while not betraying our own values. And yes that last part is quite important but should be evaluated in terms of public safety and constitutionality, and not by double or triple-guessing the intentions and desires of terrorists. Who gives a flying fuck how they get their jollies.

And FWIW I don't think terrorism is any kind of existential threat to the country and anyone's average chances of ever dying in a terrorist attack are infinitesimal. But when an ARMED BOMBER IS ON THE RUN IN YOUR CITY then your chances of getting blown up by a terrorist are, uh, slightly higher than average and temporary extraordinary security measures are quite understandable.

My point was not that we should do everything against what the terrorists want. My point was that stupid actions like shutting down a whole city for one guy, besides being harmful in themselves, are also encouraging terrorism.

These guys went on a rampage and killed someone. It's clear why the city was shut down. For safety and to prevent to from moving on.

And "shutting down a whole city for one guy" is absurdly reductive of the actual situation, which was that an armed bomber, equipped with guns and bombs, who just bombed hundreds of people two days earlier, was loose in the city. And for most of that *voluntary quarantine* the bomber was definitely in the city.

If it were a bank robber or something, yes, it would be a different story because the criminal's aim and crime was not to kill or maim as many public civilians as possible.

Man where the fuck did all the conspiracy theory stuff come from?
I went to bed, woke up the next morning, and then seemingly overnight I wake up to facebook feeds about how these two guys were set up and the government is using this as leverage to psychologically condition us into accepting a police state. What.

More than the dangerous suspect on the loose, there was the very real possibility of live bombs sitting around.

They don't require any basis in fact to start spouting their nonsense. It started literally minutes after the bombings when they couldn't have possibly had any evidence.

These guys were found within a couple days, one killed, the other in custody. How in the hell does any of that encourage terrorism?

OK this proves the point that you just can't win. People here (I am from the Boston area) are mad that they said there was an all clear while he was still loose, yet you say it's dumb to to shut the city down. They can't win can they?

Would rather have you pissed than dead.

This Howie Carr opinion piece is one of the worst things I've ever read in a mainstream outlet. Every paragrah seems to contain something despicable.

Quoted full for less clicks:

Carr: USA needs refuge from refugees

So once again, no good deed goes unpunished.

Uncle Sam lets another bunch of leeching future terrorists into the country who have absolutely no business being here, gives them “asylum,” making them immediately eligible for welfare, and this is the thanks we get?

They turn into mass murderers.

We bring in thousands of Muslims from a primitive society that has been battling Christians for centuries, and put them into a peaceful Christian society — what could possible go wrong?

This is what I was thinking about yesterday, with much of the city under what amounted to martial law. Once more, law-abiding American citizens were paying the price for the insane immigration policies that have so damaged this society in recent years.

You can see the decay everywhere — in the emergency rooms, in the courts, in the welfare offices and, yes, in the epidemic of senseless murders. The only difference this time was one of the bloodthirsty fiends was actually a naturalized U.S. citizen.

And then these “refugees” started killing the generous Americans who supported them for years in their indolence. The young Tsarnaev even got a $2,500 scholarship from the City of Cambridge — which is why I never, ever gave a dime to the Cambridge scholarship fund when I lived there.

I know you’re not supposed to paint with a broad brush, unless you’re a liberal, in which case you are not only permitted, but expected to make Adam Lanza the poster boy for 100 million law-abiding legal gun owners.

But please, before the Kool-Aid drinkers in the Senate try to get amnesty for at least 12 million undocumented Democrats, [WHAT THE FUCK?!?] can somebody please consider how many more of these Dzhokhar Tsarnaevs we really need?

A better question: How many of these jihadist “refugees” can we as a society survive?

Look at the chaos and the tragedy these Chechens have inflicted on the people of Boston this week. Who asked them to come here? What exactly do they contribute to the culture? They have had everything — absolutely everything — handed to them.

Obviously, no other country in the world wanted these sharia-crazed Stone Age Muslim terrorists.

The older terrorist, Tamerlan, was described as a “very religious” Muslim. I guess that’s why he was arrested for domestic abuse in 2009, because he was so “very religious.” And he told a photojournalist that, “I don’t have a single American friend.”

Then he should have gone back to Chechnya.

Yesterday, one of the moonbats on MSNBC was talking about the “family’s deep roots in Boston.” Too bad we don’t have a death penalty here. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev might find out just how deep his roots would be — 6 feet deep.

He is still an American citizen, he swear to the flag and the Country and citizens of Boston welcome him with open arms. He was free to enjoy our entertainment, Eat our food and he had full benefits and rights.

This was a domestic attack by one of our own in my eyes and a very sad one at that. They both fail us.

Women can't date people who aren't citizens?

he came here when he was 7 years old, doing math -- (if he's 19 now, and he came in 2001)

You are what you are, and he was an American citizen. But he'll burn, regardless.

What does Kool-Aid drinkers mean?

going by the rest of the article, i'm guessing a race of people.

You really think that shutting down an entire city for one single terrorist is something that discourages terrorists?

Wait, what is your proposal for capturing them? To not search them following the shootings of the cops during their escape?

Cause without the lockdown what would have happened is that the poor homeowner discovered s#2 earlier, while he was in better physical condition, and he would have been killed.

Refers to cults where they would drink kool-aid to commit mass suicide. So if you're drinking the kool-aid you're just blindly following/buying into something.

There is some debate over the origin.

The one you refer to is specifically the Jonestown cult. Not plural.

The other possibility is that it references Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters.

Didn't mean to imply more than one, but in this case it seems like the author's intent was to reference the Jonestown incident and not the acid test one.

So women are objects to be enjoyed as a normal citizen?
