Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

What could they possibly improve with a redesign? The Vita's hardware is perfect.

Well, other than battery life. My only real hardware complaint with the Vita is that horrible creaking feeling when you move the X/O/[]/TRI buttons against the plastic surrounding it, bothers me so much..

Internal Hard drive, battery life, 4G, HDMI output. Perhaps the ability to use it as a phone? Maybe a few adjustments to the Vita to make it more ready for PS4 streaming.

Top of Page Announcement: Sonic All Stars racing Vitabro event (in order to get specific trophies) occurring today...if there are enough people.

Even if we get CP, CSEX is worth getting cause it has all the story in the series up to that point, which CP likely won't have. If you dont care about that, you may as well just get DOA.

Thats true, and BB is almost half the price as DOA with twice as much content. Ill likely just snag BB, and pick up DOA alittle later on, cant complain about Vita in reguards to fighting games.

Man, Im so conflicted. I have $90 in BB RZ cards.

Part of me wants to buy the 32GB card already, buy at the same time i don't really feel like I need it. I usually buy physical, and I can just get a few games instead. Plus I'm really hoping for a 64GB announcement already.

32GB card or Persona and Luigi's Mansion?

And on that note, for those who played P4G, that or Soul Sacrifice? I enjoyed the demo of SS but I never played a Persona game, and I might enjoy that more.

New card (as long as you have at least an 8gig) is a luxury. The games you listed are must-owns. Arguably the best on each of their respective hardware. Also, Best Buy will price match Amazon, so you can currently get P4G for 29.99. Sure you know about the 3ds/luigi's mansion promotion, but that's contingent on when you bought the 3ds. So, yeah, I'd get the games.

If you don't need the 32GB, and it seems like you don't, get Persona 4 Golden and Soul Sacrifice.

The original Luigi's Mansion on GameCube was one of my least favorite Nintendo games.

This.

Alrighty Vitabros. I woke up today and turned on my computer hoping to see word of a Vita redesign or larger memory cards but alas: no such luck.
Anywaay I'm going to try and get a group of VitaBros to get an online Trophy in Sonic All Stars. Who's in?

Was there a rumor of a Sony event?

Anyway, don't lose hope my fellow Vitabros and cats. Let's hold out hope for a little bit longer. If there's no big or decent announcements at E3, then lets get worried. Sure, Sony isn't hitting this thing out of the park like Nintendo has been but the sales haven't been that good so we'll be getting mediocre to decent support at best, IMO. Still, I've been pretty happy so far with what we've been getting.

I'd say they're more likely to get rid of the 3G model rather than introduce a 4G model. Internal space is nice, but not really something worth needing a redesign over.. I'll see you on HDMI-Out but if someone's really on the fence or needs it, there's already modded ones for sale!

I felt it such a huge missed opportunity that they didn't use Android as the OS, at least partially, though. Imagine! The entire android marketplace! Emulators!

Didn't even know Amazon had this sale! Thanks!

Anyone else nervous about the Sly Collection port? Would absolutely love to play it on vita, but not if it doesn't look as good as the PS3 version. The graphical disparity between the vita and ps3 ports of Thieves in Time left a bad taste in my mouth.

If there is a redesign, we'll probably see a slimmer lightweight version of the system. Not going to happen but maybe, larger face buttons, move the start/select button, and concave sticks would be welcomed. I just don't see the vita ever getting hdmi out unless its a dev unit.

And in the future with the 4th revision, we'll get a waterproof unit to play in the shower and Anti aliasing on those damn bubbles.

The vita is not as powerful as the ps3. It won't run as good as the ps3 version. Period.

People should have proper expectations of the vita's capabilities so they don't set themselves up for disappointment.

Reposting this from the B/S/T thread, in case anyone wants some extra spending money for those indie games!

For Sale:

I have a total of nine PSN codes worth $20 each. I won these from a PlayStation Vita referral program, and will sell up to three of them.

What do I want to buy? I am specifically looking for 3DS eShop, Amazon, or GameStop gift card codes of equal value. They must work in the US.

Ah, so that's your argument. Might as well look at Tarsier Studios, who went from Rag Doll Kung Fu to one of the highest rated games published by Sony. Or Sanzaru Games, who went from some small mediocre games to make Sly Cooper 4, a game that reviewed and sold well. Not to mention the many smaller games that Sony helps out on, like Sound Shapes or Escape Plan.

Media Molecule developed Rag Doll Kung Fu. Tarsier simply ported it to PS3. I'm not saying Sony shouldn't work with smaller studios, or give them a chance at something bigger. I'm saying that Sony does a worse job ensuring those projects are up to par. Had Resistance been a Nintendo franchise I doubt they would've let something like Burning Skies ship in the condition it did.

If you're SCE this is a bad idea for a variety of reasons: 1) there's a much larger market of software you don't earn royalties from competing with the software you do 2) emulators potentially damaging sales of PSP, and PSone Classics, 3) bigger chance of being rooted/hacked increasing software piracy, 4) you become yet another Android tablet in a sea of them.

These games aren't maxing out the PS3 though. Look at PSASBR.

I've been tempted to buy Tactics Ogre, but I bought it for the PSP, and I sucked at it. Couldn't even get past the 3 hour mark. Any recommendations on building a stronger party?
Hm, it's hard to give general tips like that for a game with so many possibilities. :)

I played my first run through the PSP version with harsh restrictions because it's a genre I really enjoy taking seriously (a curse, since that also makes many exploitable/broken/poorly balanced SRPGS like the new Fire Emblem totally worthless to me). I didn't allow any characters to faint a single time, I ignored the CHARIOT system (which lets you rewind turns to fix mistakes), and I made sure not to retreat from any battles or went out of my way to grind. It was a personal hell I created for myself that TO handily accommodated. I say this not to discourage you but to point out how I think everything is flexible enough for experimentation. I'm sure you'll find your own path through the game once you settle into a groove that works for you.

Firstly, I think I would advise to make use of CHARIOT whenever you hit a snag. Also, don't be afraid to take advantage of Canopus (redheaded hawk guy you can recruit early on) since he is almost "Final Fantasy Tactics Cid" powerful compared to the rest of your party at that point in the game. Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each character class is useful, but I think simply playing and trying to keep everyone varied will go a long way.

At the start of the game, make sure to have a party composed of a couple healers (clerics/priests), a couple long distance attackers (wizards, preferably, since archers take a while to get better), and some tank-y melee characters (like knights). Try not to put anyone into situations they can't handle, and be a bully! Ganging up on enemies to take things out one by one is a lot better than leaving a bunch of wounded foes running around. You also don't have to move everyone off in every which direction--sometimes keeping units in tight groups does wonders for their safety.

Once you get the hang of things, you'll be able to branch out to stronger, more exotic classes, incorporating specialized units like ninjas and stuff.

Please be wary that the Vita port of BBCSEX has some audio quality issues. You have to tinker with the settings to make it not clip as much (the popping sound when voices and sound effects are sometimes too much for the Vita to handle), and if you go to the home screen or sleep the Vita during a match, the volume will be twice as loud until a new match is loaded. Voices are also pretty compressed, a side effect of having so much content along with dual audio. It's not a disaster or anything but worth pointing out. ("Disaster" is awarded to the audiovisual nightmare known as the PSP Calamity Trigger port, lol.)

edit: The audio settings I've settled on after a lot of experimentation are 45 BGM, 50 Voice, and 50 Sound Effect in case anyone's interested.

Soul Sacrifice (and whatever else).
Maybe Soul Sacrifice and a 16gb card for $30 from Best Buy? You'll still have $30 to put toward game #2 that way. ;)

Holy balls. The final dungeon of Ogden's chapter in Dragon Fantasy is impossible with this horrible hit rate. Miss, miss, miss, hit, die.

On a side note, "Sgt. Killface wants to kill... your face!"

I found it easier to spend some time by the obelisk stone in the continent to the south first than going straight to the dungeon. Saves your game and (I think?) heals you, and the enemies there are not as tough as the ones in the castle.

Really, spend a bunch on money on potato soups so you have plenty of healing to go around. It's the best way to spend the 5000g the previous boss gave you.

Does potato soup recover all MP? I just got all the Hero equipment, so I went back to town, sold everything and bought 100 herbs, 30 turboherbs and 30 potato soups. I think I'm ready to kick this final boss' ass.

Not quite, but it recovers about ~100MP a pop, so you're kinda going to overkill the final boss with 30.

Well, I had 20k GP sitting in the bank, and with no equipment to spend it on, decided to go with recovery items. But it was more than enough. Beat the chapter at level 30, healed after every battle with herbs, and only needed to use a potato soup once before fighting the Dark Lord. Fun game. I heard the other chapters are shorter?

Shorter, but more varied. Ogren was the longest with a single party member, but the others get multiple ones/have stuff to do outside of battle.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I think part of my problem was that I didn't have a very balanced party. I had read that ninjas and archers were good, so I just loaded my party with them.

add me, and tell me when and where. i need that trophy.

What exactly would that Sonic Transformed trophy require? I'm not exactly good at the game, or hunting trophies for that matter, but if you guys need people I can help. Just know that it'll be extremely gimped help, lol.

Man, i guess i hurt someones feelings at sony since my comment on the blog is awaiting moderation.....I dont understand how wanting Sony to support their handheld and it be successful is offensive, I dont even know what in the comment could be labled offensive unless I hurt Sonys feelings.
