Boston: One dead, one captured, city re-opened

Do you think these people care about logic? They could come up with alternate theories as to why the Earth goes around the sun for crying out loud. If you look closely enough (and take logical leaps of faith) you can justify just about anything.

In this specific case, the guy is still wearing his backpack after the bombs go off, but that won't stop these folks.
I don't usually participate in government conspiracies, but when I do I wear extremely conspicuous clothing when I'm heading to a place where I know I'll be filmed and photographed.

Just now hearing that the kid has throat injuries and may not be able to speak. Are you fucking kidding me?!

Yes, and where did you hear it?:p It's conspiracy theorists. They didn't want him to be caught, they hoped he would be killed. Him being arrested doesn't fit in their mind with, so now they are hoping he can't talk. Next they'll hope he lost his hearing and eyesight too.

he'd better survive or we'll never hear the end of these conspiracies. sigh.

I don't buy into them but so many strange elements to this whole situation... this being only the latest

Are you kidding? Even if he survives, the crazies will just try a different approach: "It's a lookalike! He didn't really say/write that! He's really dead but they want us to think he's alive!" Whatever..

I disagree with the idea that making an example of people doesn't work. It's definitely not 100% but it's still very effective and when it comes to shit like this society should do whatever it can to prevent it from happening again. Guantanamo is internationally notorious and exists for terrorists. It's where this guy belongs as long as G-mo is still open, imo.

(CNN) -- As the world hunted him, the younger brother suspected in the Boston Marathon bombings acted like any other college sophomore.

Dzhokar Tsarnaev, 19, was on the campus of University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth every day after the attack until late Thursday, a university official told CNN. Tsarnaev attended classes and dorm parties while the rest of Boston came to a tense standstill.[/B]

A student at the school told The Boston Globe that she saw Tsarnaev at a party Wednesday night that was attended by some of his friends from intramural soccer.

"He was just relaxed," she said, asking the paper not to print her name.

At the dorm where Tsarnaev lived, students joked Thursday as they viewed the FBI photos on television, a senior who lived in the suspect's dorm told The Boston Globe.

"We made a joke like, that could be Dzhokar," said Pamala Rolon. "But then we thought it just couldn't be him. Dzhokar? Never."

Just crazy.

Do we have an update on his condition? Last I heard was "serious." Or any update on the dude's status officially since?

CNN front page story. First sentence.

Just crazy.

This almost makes no sense. Did he really just think no one would find out? Or did he just not care? Maybe he went back to his dorm that day and just got super stoned and didn't think about it. smh

I'm still not clear on what they were doing at MIT that night? I heard from somewhere (no idea how true this is) that they were planning on placing bombs there too. Obviously they were prepared for a confrontation since they had all kinds of ammo on them.

CNN, lol. We'll have to wait for a credible source.

CNN is now the Kotaku of OT.

Anyway he is not able to talk now, not saying he won't ever be able to.

Reuters: Surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect awaits charges

Dzhokhar, a student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, was shot in the throat and could not speak because of injuries to his tongue, said a source close to the investigation. It was unclear when he would be able to talk.

No I was not kidding, thanks for asking. If he were to die it would make their 'job' a whole lot easier though. Living doesn't put an end to conspiracies but the hope is that details provided by him will fill in enough holes that there's less room for any conspiracies that are likely to be believed by many. If the opposite happens then it adds a barrel of fuel to the fire.

Beck, infowars and similar have to be among the most irritating sects on the planet, just beneath the WBC. I've seen this alex jones guy cornering people in interviews acting like the smuggest sob possible.

What really lights me up though is I have this co-worker always talking about theories from that site and he's going to have a new pile of bs to spew come monday.

Imagine his shock when he wakes up, thinking "Whew, it was all just a dream!"

There is still much to learn here. The pieces just don't seem to all come together on their end, although I suspect they were just dumb kids.

The fact he was at UMASS Dartmouth all week then went back up to the hub is strange. Still haven't heard anything more about the three arrests in New Bedford.

I guess five total. Three were questioned, two on immigration issues.

It was probably to keep suspicions away. If he was absent all week it could have been considered suspect. Just as he let no hint out before, he didn't after either. He's also likely a sociopath, which would make that easier for him to do.

As for the MIT, it appears that they were carrying out their second attack. It just didn't work out.

Was it really confirm the New Bedford arrests were made in relation to this? Originally it was stated as such, but I never heard of it again.

I'm expecting people close to the older brother to be the most valuable for the investigation. His wife/girlfriend must have been interrogated too. We haven't heard about where they might have been making the devices.

Applying Occam's Razor I would say they were part of the security team. Seems pretty fucking idiotic for the government to fake a bombing by using agents so easily made/identified by their attire.

Absolutely. Just as you say, think of the logic behind this: my PMC is behind this bombing, so while I'm watching on to see that everything goes according to plan, I'm going to wear clearly recognizable gear so that I'll leave a trail back to me.

Riiiiiiiiiight.

The purpose of law isn't to rehabilitate criminals. It's about what's best for society first and foremost. It's purpose has always been to make an example of criminals so society thinks twice about committing crimes. I like to think the US is civilized because it sets what it feels is the bare minimum of punishment needed to get the point across to those capable of getting it. Getting the message across to the criminal so he doesn't commit the crime again is all well and good but you can't risk that shit with guys who commit crimes on this level, you have to look at why law exists in the first place for these cases.
There is no evidence supporting the notion that harsher sentences deter more crimes and there is a ton of research on the subject. People who commit crimes aren't rational actors who conduct cost-benefit analysis before making the decision to commit. They act impulsively, under the influence of drugs or alcohol and in most cases don't even expect to get caught. If they feel the chance of being caught is minimal, understandably the harshness of the sentence is fairly irrelevant even if they consider their decision carefully. Moreover, they do not de facto know what the punishments are and what's the actual risk of getting caught. You are right in that the US sets sentence lengths based on what they "feel" is appropriate, rather than based on the available research. Of course going just by deterrence research isn't a good idea either as the citizens have their own, rather arbitrary, notions of justice and if they feel the sentences are too low, they may lose trust in the system. Educating them about the topic may allow changing the system over time, but right now there is a culture of punishment, which isn't particularly receptive to information.

Lol! The newest one is the best: "So did tamerlan die or did he get arrested SO MANY HOLES"

Yeah, he has another friend partaking in the 'truth campaign' now too.

www.twitter.com/xxjungaxx

That was a private account when he used to speak to Jahar, but has opened it for all now so he can help defend his friend.

Have to end up wondering what these two people will end up saying when more info comes to light, and if Jahar ends up fully speaking out and confessing as his uncle wants him to.

Moral question: If Dzhokhar is presumed innocent in the eyes of the law, should we all treat him thusly until he is proven otherwise?

I really hope he does talk... the campaigns on twitter are horrendous. I always end up checking up on the conspiracy talk, but it never ceases to amaze me. Hopefully after he talks his friends will own up to their mistakes.

this is by far the worst I've seen out of it though.

How the hell do people come up with this? That poor guys life is changed forever, he's an actual living breathing person... sometimes conspiracy theorists take their stories for fact and forget that, the person they're calling fake and a pawn could be reading this right now.

The fuck lol

I'll never forget the Sandy Hook shit. Or in my world - the day I learned what "crisis actor" meant.

Question guys: What's the difference between Adam Lanza & Tsarnaev brother's ? They're both American & they've killed innocent people (children). However I have the feeling that one side is classed as terrorist and the other one as a loner insane.

Does that mean that you're classed terrorist when you're using bombs instead of guns ?
