Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

As long as they provide PSP/PSV multiplatforms and Vita ones look like GE2/Toukiden i can live with that ;)

As for Toukiden it would have stayed PSP exclusive, until SCEJ "talked" to KT about making multiplat. For GE2 Bamco says developers were happy with Vita so they talked to management to make it multiplat, but who knows :)

Sorry, please make Gravity Rush 2.

I think Toyama implied sequel is under the way.

I highly value japanese support over western support anyway. I can't think of many western pubs doing handheld games other than Ubisoft with Liberation and Bioware making that one DS Sonic game.

Kawano has to know that PSP up-ports, and PS3 down ports isn't going to keep the platform going forever.

I think we all agree on that. However, at least in Japan the major PSP games were either console ports (MH) or arcade ports (Gundam seires, fighting games, etc), with extra contents.
What were exclusive to PSP were FF series IMO (I may be missing some, though).

I'd like to see this scenario:

*Toto sells PSVita*
Folklore+ announced for Vita

that would be GLORIOUS! hahaha (I haven't playeD Folklore)

..basically quite a few devs in Japan are not done with PSP yet.
Moreover, they think Vita's tech is too early for them.
(Remember GE2 and Toukiden are initially to be released at PSP only, and GE2's release date isn't even announced yet).

Based on the fact that SCE relies on third party's input (for both handheld and console), they simply can't ignore third party's feedback.

Edit: IMO the reason PS4 is developed by mainly Western team of Sony is that tech-demand discrepancy between Japan and West has become so large that it can't be ignored.
Basically they must continnue support for PSP/PSV/PS3/PS4 to support all third party devs.
(One example is that Bamco stated they'll start focusing on PS3 as for console buisiness, last year).

sounds.. pretty logical (and sad too)
would lowering the cost of entry for the PSV change anything? Is it a case that cannot handle the tech.. or is the development cost affecting them?

but then again.. the 3DS does have pretty good hardware.. (does it not)?

I would want to see like some kind of Crisis Core game again... :/

Morning fellow GAFfers. Just played a bit more of Gravity Rush yesterday. Did Chapter 9 + 10 (or was it 10 + 11?). I really am loving this game but I had some trouble for this first time.

I still have some difficulty with the Gravity itself, hope it does not get harder in the end because I'm loving this game, the soundtrack, the art style is so good!

I just love this song right here:

It's just very relaxing, when I hear it I feel... fine!

My Vita is about one Month old since I got it for myself. One of the best choices I've made gaming wise and Vita-GAF is amazing too.

They will have to migrate sooner or later as PSP software sales are slowly failing.

Not really and even then huge part of processing power is wasted on 3D effect giving end result of upgraded PSP

but I'm really wondering how much a tech leap does the Vita offer...
I mean it's not THAT bad right? (people are fine with games like Persona 4, Soul Sacrifice)

there's something magical about Japanese games.. not just their graphics fidelity (or lack of it)

but.. it sounds like a good thing.. somewhat optimistic/hopeful

there is also the resident evil sale, but other than that im not sure. Thomas was Alone may be the only indie game I dont buy this month, since something about it just is not clicking with me.

I'm usually all over indie, but I'm passing as well. I watched a good 40-mins of a let's play, and while it looked like a good game. I just didn't feel it.

Japan's tech aversion is always surprising to me.

I wonder if there are papers about their lack of programming and general computer science exposure in their curriculum and how it affected them on the world stage.

Well I bought my VITA this weekend. I opted for this pack and got a copy of Amazing Spiderman, some pizza hut deal and 30 days free PS+ thrown in.

I've got to say that I'm quite impressed with it - it's a lovely piece of kit (except for a squeaky shoulder button).

No doubt that my purchase will now be followed by a price drop in the UK!! Ha!!

Welcome to Vita GAF.

There is an easy fix for the squeaky shoulder button. Get a screwdriver and loose the screw at the back on the corner of the squeaky shoulder button.
There is a video on youtube, can't look it up because I am on using my smartphone right now.

Just take an appropriate sized screwdriver, loosen the screw behind the shoulder button by one turn or so. Fixed mine. It is probably just that the screw was too tight.

Welcome to the club, first thing to do is upgrade that 30 days PS+ and get a bigger card ;) See if you can trade in Uncharted as that's part of PS+ anyway, if you already have a PS3 you might find that some of your previously purchased games are part of a cross buy promotion. Motorstorm RC, PSABR, Sly Cooper, Hustle Kings, Sound Shapes, Guacamelee, When Vikings Attack are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

Can you tell me how it works? If I go to online on the main menu, it just forces my Vita into adhoc mode.

Edit: Just messed with it again. Unless they have hidden it (lol?), there is no online play in Guilty Gear (currently?).

if that's true I'll be very disappointed. I'll still get it, but I guess there'll be no reason to update my homebrew vita anymore. Sorry SS players!

Those ports weren't launching alongside identical versions of more successful platforms. Gundam Vs. Gundam wasn't hitting PSP and PS3 the same day which is what's happening to Vita.

Gundam vs Gundam was never released on PS3, or any other platform than other than PSP.

Edit: Small details aside, I see what you are saying. However, Vita is also getting the same treatment as PSP as well (late ports).
Moreover, at that time the example I have given (Monster Hunter Portables, or Gundam arcade ports) were considered cheap cash-ins when they were announced.
No one could predict how some of these small ports were bound to turn into 4.5 million franchise.
The best Sony could do now is to try out every possibilities, to the extent that it doesn't financially burn them (so then won't drop the Vita support for good :D)

I meant the entire Gundam Vs. series, like Gundam Vs. Gundam NEXT, and Gundam Extreme Vs. Unless those are entirely different games and I'm just confused because of the titles ...

Yeah I understand your confusion. Gundam vs Gundam is like Gundam VS 7, and Next is 8.
Extreme Vs is 9, and EXVS Full Boost is 10.
I know they all look alike but could not resist to explain it, sorry :)

I wonder if Yakuza will go to 3DS (betrayalthon!), wait for Vita to show signs of Vita in Japan, or just ignore handhelds entirely? The second Black Panther game was kind of a bomba:

[PSP] Yakuza: Black Panther (SEGA) - 174.213 / 287.700
[PSP] Yakuza: Black Panther PSP the Best (SEGA) - 2850 / 60.487
[PSP] Yakuza: Black Panther 2 (SEGA) - 104.937 / 176.388

Seemed odd to me that SEGA didn't release the Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Collection on Vita.

Love that track too, and I agree it's great music to relax with.I've been thinking of purchasing the soundtrack from play-asia. I just like floating around the city, great fun!. Hope you find a lot of enjoyment with your new vita. :)

They will ignore handhelds, probably.

And I'm sure that the painfully small card size is one of the reasons why Vita isn't getting some games. Not everyone can employ the wizards Konami employed to make MGS2&3 fit on ~3GB.

For example, Yakuza Kenzan would be a good port for Vita. But will all the videos that thing is not going to fit on <4GB.

When the console was announced, I thought that by this time we would be seeing 16GB cards. It's pretty sad.

Yeah, I don't understand how they're fitting the Jak trilogy on a 4GB card.
I really have trouble understanding it. Like...I don't get it at all.

Edit: actually, now I do. The sum of all three games in the PS3 HD Collection is about 8 or so GB. This makes sense. If I remember correctly, PS3 version of Sly 4 was 18GB but only about 3 on Vita. So maybe some big compression tricks.

Gravity Rush was the game that showed me what Vita was all about. Still my favorite game followed by Uncharted. Persona Golden is great. Really been surprised by the amount of little changes from the PS2 version.

That likely just includes the first game. The webstore does that on collections sometimes - it says the Sly Collection is around 7GB when all three games together is actually about 20GB.
Hmm, you're right. Jak II is 3429 MB; the first one is around a gig and the third one is around 3GB.
Nevermind then!
