I'm guess 2D platformers can get away with looking "old school" while 3D platformers couldn't so much current gen. That being said, more money would have to be thrown at it and most of the 2D platformers this gen on non-Nintendo consoles are indie titles. Really, a lot of old school 3D platformers were fun but some of them look awful by today's standards, even when compared to the 2D one's.I would love a 3D platformer renaissance. 2D platformers are doing great but where are the 3D ones!?
lol at this thread. There are a lot of platformers being released. Your hope for more triple A budgets for them is a pipe dream. Won't happen because you can't nickle and dime the genre like you can FPS.
I just want a Jak & Daxter II.
FPSes and the demographic that support them can go play in a minefield. Get that trash out of the industry
First Next-generation game shown was Knack for PS4, a platformer:

Less first person everything; more third person.
More diversity, less homogeny
Barely excited about this. I don't think VR like this will ever be more than a novelty and a passing memory. Surprised people are still investing in it.Nooooo
more first person for Oculus Rift
