Lame... I was hoping for a 3DS redesign.
I wonder if they indeed actually release e3 demos to be downloaded (which seems to be somewhat of a possibility regarding their probable plans), if that would in any way drive wii u adoption for some hardcore gamers. Anyone here that doesn't own a wii u and may be planning to would jump in sooner for the possibility of playing e3 demos of 3d mario, mario kart, etc. as soon as June?
That alone may prove a point of interest to be announced on a e3 special Nintendo direct and would potentially generate a lot of excitement for their showing.
That's an interesting question.

I wouldn't expect this when they barely ever give demos even outside the deadlines of a show like E3. Don't think they want consumers getting their hands on potentially not so fun to play or broken early versions.Actually can you imagine:
Reggie: So, this week on the floor we're going to have press playing Super Mario Universe, Mario Kart: Shells Inside U, Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3, and Mother 4. But what about for you at home? Well, once this presentation is over, you'll be able to download those demos for yourself from the Wii U eshop to try out at home. Enjoy muthafukas.
Read thread title. They should still ensure they have something dated/timed and promoted under the E3 umbrella as those E3 conferences are big focal points for gamers and the press.
- If Nintendo will still have a presence on the show floor, with demo stations, as per usual. Consider: "...we also plan to make it possible for visitors to try the games immediately."
Like many I was WTF ? at first but ..
Basically :
- No time limit
- No awkward people not being uncomfortable speaking on stage / no awkward live demos.
- No long-ass sales oriented moment in the presentation wrapped in pr bullshit.
- Nintendo Direct Quality
As a viewer, it could be way better to watch than the last E3 presentations.
In the end the only difference is that it won't be a Live and in public presentation (the public being journalists), it will still be Nintendo's E3 show (or no-show depending on what they'll give us).

So wait... Nintendo whose greatest market is the CASUAL audience... is passing up the ONLY event that the CASUAL audience even realizes exists...?
Seriously WTF is Nintendo doing?
There's more info at the link. Nintendo is dividing the big presentation into smaller events in order to target specific groups.
Who needs E3 when we have Nintendo Directs? Face it, they're more fun to watch anyway.
At the end of the day all of the news will be in the same placeSeems like it could be a mistake to me.
Directs are mainly watched by core Nintendo fans...E3 tends to get everyone watching everything.

So you're saying that when a site with their usual E3 coverage writes "CLICK HERE TO WATCH NINTENDO's E3 DIRECT" people won't click because it doesn't say "CLICK HERE TO WATCH NINTENDO's E3 CONFERENCE"? They'll also ignore information journalists bring from the Nintendo Press Event and the games they play on the showfloor for the same reason even though all of that will also be part of any outlet's E3 coverage? Cool.Yeah who actually looks at Nintendo directs outside of the hardcore gamers on the internet?
Good luck with that

The people that bought the Wii don't watch E3 and I'm sure most of them don't even know what E3 is.
lol I dont care if its true or not this is pretty funnyMy 60 year old mother knows what e3 is.
When the wii u was announced e3 she actually asked me if i had heard of the "new gamecube pad". (she also gave me an "aren't you impressed at how hip I am" look lol)
I think you would be surprised at how much what happens at e3 gets put out to the general audience.

Ok, I'm going to look for last Direct following on YouTube, in order to comprehend better what we're talking about, in order to comprehend their potential towards mass audience.
They are still planning on how to reach out to everyone at home and internationally. My main problem with this is
1 lack of gifs
2 reading between the lines this is going to be a very USA focused event sadly for international users.
