I guess some people still aren't seeing what Nintendo is aiming for here. By creating a more intimate experience for the media, they are targeting positive press, and less knee-jerk, misinformed impressions.
As explained in my last post, there's a HUGE difference between an E3 show-floor hands-on, and and E3 closed-door hands-on. The latter, more intimate setting facilitate much more positive impressions/reporting from the media. If Nintendo manages to execute this plan properly, they could walk out of the show in a generally positive light.
