I thought ep 3 sucked. I was getting pretty bored by the whole "Oh no we're getting hacked!" bit in the first half, cos I don't think they sufficiently explained the consequences if they failed to repel the hackers, so I couldn't feel the tension. I didn't like how them were able to identify the hacker's location just by saying "He must be somewhere close!".

At the end of ep 2 we're told they're going to search for Fumi, so when they arrive at Osaka they meet Hinako and Keita. And then they show
Keita's death clip, but the audience would have only seen him in that one scene in the train station, which I feel is not enough time to develop an attachment to him so that the death clip would give you that sense of 'OH SHIT'. I'm surprised they killed him off, cos I was expecting they'd immediately go for the best ending, although I must admit I won't miss him.
And then when they discovered Fumi
being behind the hacking, and Makoto was immediately able to figure out that she was being brainwashed,
I think that sort of revelation is just too convenient.

About the hacking, IIRC wasn't it that
if the barriers are down, Septentrion can get to the towers easier? And by doing that they can continue erasing the world.
Though that's a revelation meant for later in the story.

About Keita, I don't think
you were supposed to get too attached to him per say. This isn't the first death clip and I think everyone expected him to be saved. The fake out was the real OH SHIT moment. I don't think you even need a connection to the character. I never cared for Keita at all, but I just wasn't expecting him to get killed off so early like that.

About the brainwashing...well, under normal circumstances Fumi wouldn't hack JP's and help the demons. Since there are demons involved, I don't think brainwashing was that big of a jump in logic.

Just started watching this since I found there's an iOS Crunchyroll app. Fucking awesome.

I looooove the Devil Survivor 2 world and characters.

It's probably nothing, but regarding who might be "next", perhaps the end credits are giving hints since
there's a few people who aren't "alternating" between the left and right sides in order and Keita just happened to be the first one, being right behind Io instead of opposite her.
Chances are I'm reading into it too much though.

Holy shit, Marek was badass here.

Thought for a moment they were going to kill Hinako, but she's still in the ending, so I guess Daichi finds her?

Also looks like they're foreshadowing Io's abilities for the future.

Since they got the Demon Auction in, I wonder if we'll see Daichi fuse his demons to get something stronger, since he has three right now. Anyone know what you can make with the three he has?

Oh man
I would have been so mad if they had killed Hinako. She's awesome!

They are making Byakko looks like a badass demon. He was actually one of the demons I used in the game because of his warp skill.

Episode 4

The Good:
- Preview confirms Airi shows up next week.

The Bad:
- Everything else.

Dreadful episode. Slow, boring, and ugly as fuck. Off model characters, bad animation, boring direction, just... awful. Ugh.

Episode 4 was "ok" but nothing else .
The animation was barely sufficient and so far i'm disconnected from the cast because i don't care about them ( when i should ).

Things move too fast , or don't move fast enough ... And some chain of events just happen.
I'm not satisfied by this anime so far.

They better give mesome explanation , twist or something for the next day because i'm bored ... BORED

I want to avoid watching this until Break Record, since I've not played the game yet, but I'm watching it anyway. :/ First episode was pretty good, second is just okay.

The ED is so good.

Devil Survivor 2 The Animation - Episode 4

Next.

Some notes:

-I wish the OP didn't show parts of the episode in it.
-Merak is much crazier here!
-
Debut of Shogo Makishima.
-The shots of everyone holding up their phones--they must be at a concert.
-Byakko doesn't take shit when he has friends.
-Yaoi harem section of the show begins.
-
Really? In Io's moment of the show to reclaim herself it still comes off as boring and stiff? That part of the episode was a fumble.
-
I like the setup for the introduction of Ronaldo. The MC's relationship with JPs is strained due to their ideological differences. They'll probably take to each other quickly, but I'd guess they'll clash in due time. Best team debuts next episode. I saw Joe and Otome =3

Whoever is writing this show is starting to make me slightly annoyed. Why in the world does Daichi get stuck being a med/nurse (Well I like how we do have a male healer)? Its totally unfair
Nitta gets to have this powerful demon while his two are both too weak? That seems difficult to believe that he really has no strength at all to fight. Worst it would have potentially been somewhat acceptable if she had actually been able to defeat the Septenteron on her own, but no, Byakko had to help, so it was just pointless. Also how in the world does Keita die and stay dead but Hinako "miraculously" survives her fatal blow
The anime is really making it quite easy for my time with the game to be significantly different than this.

Outside of that Alcor/Hibiki moment was really well done and interesting. And for characters Hotsuin > Ronaldo sama for Hibiki, IMO.
Hope he defects from Ronaldosama and goes back to Hotsuin and Alcor
.

They need to give Daichi decent demons. While the mc has Byakko, a level 57 demon, he's stuck with those shitty level 3 demons lol.

As for Hina surviving, maybe her demon used dia on her at the last moment.

About why some characters die and some not:
That's the way it is in the game. Of all of the characters in the game, outside the Protagonist, only Daichi, Fumi and Hinako are guaranteed to survive. Hinako survives in every scenario, hence why she survived this.

And I'm not worried about Daichi's demons. He should get some decent demons very soon, or at least during Day 5. This mirrors his growth during the game and his Fate rank.

I doubt that he will stay with Ronald. I mean, he barely gets screen time during the opening!

And one more thing, the place where I can complain, though: He should get another demon. Byakko is cool and all, but I want to see more and more powerful demons coming from the protagonist.

About episode 3
Keita dying wasn't a shock to me. I'm 99% everyone got him killed on their first runs, (anime producers and manga writers included) and he's generally an easy character to off. His death wasn't significant, but he definitely set the "tone" for the series. I really hope they don't kill off Joe or Otome, but they seem like prime targets. It's a pity that my least favorite characters(Hinako and Airi) are totally exempt from being killed -.-

Duckroll's coming for ya, buddy

Also,
I wonder if I was the only one who restarted the game when I lost Keita during my first run and saved accidentally. I don't like him very much, but, eh, Fire Emblem tradition of not letting a single recruitable character die :lol

Well, at least the preview for the next episode showed pretty much every character who has yet to show up.

Episode was a bit slow, but it was cool to see
Kukiri-Hime
animated.

They're following the general sequence of events in the game, but how they're going about it has been pretty different so far. I guess that's good though, keeps us guessing. Still not sure how they're going to make it through the remaining days in 9 episodes when it took 4 to get through the first two days.

Indeed. Sound the duckroll alarm.

But regarding Keita,
I felt it was pretty clear what the game wanted you to do if you wanted to save him--in a odd way, it owed to the fact that you had such a narrow method of doing so. I basically just went to the subway or whatever immediately.

I then soft reset and checked out the death scene. It was pretty anticlimactic.

Uh... Although I was commenting before, I didn't watched the episode properly until now.

Arguably the worst episode. And Io's starting to get on my nerves. She isn't as bad in the game, but here... Maybe it's the voice or the way she keeps repeating "Hibiki-kun" every 10 seconds or so.

Also. AIRI! OTOME! Dis gonna b gud. Can't wait for next Thursday.

Ah man. I've got DS: Overclocked, and I waited on DS2 because I figured they'd do an expanded re-release later... I didn't even know this animation was a thing until seeing this thread today. I kind of want to watch it... but I kind of want to play the game first.

Tough choice here :(

You know, I'd recommend watching the animation anyway. Playing the game is a must, but there are many different routes you can take, therefore you can experience things that you won't see on the anime.

Might as well watch it then play it whenever the game leaves JPN, well thats what Im doing. Also been playing Overclocked while waiting.

Just watched episode 2 and I thought it was a huge step back. This one just seemed to drag on until the final 5 minutes.

Yeah ep2 and ep4 are the worst so far. Lol. The pacing for the show is really bad. They rush a ton of stuff in an episode, and then they draw shit out pointlessly for another episode, rinse and repeat.

Kikuri-hime isn't that strong of a strong demon lol. In fact she's mainly support. It's really a wonder why a lvl 27 like her could help out a bit while a lvl 53 like Byakko got whooped.

But really, if they gave Hinako Multi-strike she could have solo'd Merak.

Also, I thought this episode was good. Merak destroying shit was what I wanted to see and I got it. Didn't think it was that slow. Daichi gets no respect though, unfortunately.

Hinako may have survived this round, but Airi is screwed. Prepare yourselves.
Nah in one of the promos posted here you see her showing off her belly button which happens late in the game so she'll most likely live.

Oh, and Ronaldo being a former JP's member is...different from the game.

What, what, what, what?

Way to damage a character -_-. He is Yamato's complete antithesis; to have him original be a part of JPs is a really cheap way of establishing his history with JPs. God I hope they don't embellish his past some more.

I mad

We literally know nothing about why or how he was a part of JP's to begin with. It's more than likely that he didn't join JP's to cooperate with them, but rather to learn more about them. Which would make sense, since he's supposed to know a lot about JP's and the layout of their buildings and the sort.

If it's not what Alkolto said, I was figuring he'd be like "I joined JP's but then I learned about what Yamato was doing and had to leave." That, and because of anything regarding
his mentor. Though I literally don't remember much about his mentor and who he was and his relation to JP's so IDK if that still makes sense.

There's a Devil Survivor 2 mini-game app for Japan:

Hmm, Byakko and Kikuri-Hime? I assume the blue haired dude (whose name escapes me atm) might be Daichi's next demon.

I wonder if they'd allow Cu Chulainn to speak? I guess demons not speaking aside from one exception so far is one of their ideas to avoid "cheesyness", although they seem to be really shortsighted about it, considering how their concept of overpowered main character obviously is really cheesy in a different way...

Episode 5 impressions:

That could have gone better. Still, it wasn't as bad as the impressions were saying. MC's hoodie is still bad, btw.

Also, I got this lovely shot from Otome, so how could I get mad?

Episode 5

I actually enjoyed this episode a lot. First, Airi is here. So all haters can go home. AIRI IS HERE!!!!!!! YES!!!! I felt they handled the introduction of a lot of characters fairly well here. Airi and Jungo's interactions work well, and the show doing its own thing with the story is great because then it doesn't feel like a boring retread of the game I already played. The funniest thing about the show right now is how Alcor has Makishima's voice from Psycho-Pass, and Ronaldo has Kiritsugu's voice from Fate-Zero. It's... kinda fitting! Lololol.

RedBoot

Member
Yeah, this episode was a lot stronger since stuff actually happens, unlike last week. They managed to introduce 4 (well, 5 if you count Ronaldo) people quite well. Well, other than the fact that Joe's introduction is wildly different from the game, but he's still the same dude.

I don't particularly like how villainous Yamato is feeling so far, compared to
the more saintly Ronaldo. Ronaldo is almost certainly going to be dirtied a bit in the future (Anguished One is kind of hinting at it already), but if they wait too long to do it, it'll feel tossed in. Granted, the game kind of does that too. I think the game did a pretty good job of just making them dedicated to their specific goals, other than making both of them colossal dicks.

I think Operation Box fell a bit flat too, but they're clearly not going into the same events as the game, so at least it was still there.
