It was cool to see more backstory on Yamato and Makoto.

Jungo & Airi had nice scenes. Joe & Otome were just there.

Fumi needs more time on screen. She da best.

Yeah this was a good episode. I like the the whole Alcor and Yamato thing they added in the anime, as well as Yamato's added backstory. lol he was already summoning a lvl 58 demon at the age of 5...

The ending of the episode as well transition to the ending theme was also good.

Only problem is that Joe just seems kind of shoved in. Also his GF already died? The whole thing with his GF in the game led to some good character development (at least in the Fate events, though you see some of it come into this decision about what side he chooses at the end) because of his indecisiveness, but it's glanced over here. Granted they can't really fit everything in a 13 episode show, but...

Also of note, the fact that Hibiki has a second death face. That didn't happen in the game.

I guess the fact there's a lot of things different from the game makes it worth playing if you haven't already. Better yet with Break Record coming out and there's a brand new scenario. But there are also differing story events (though the core plot is the same), they're going on only one route in the game (who knows what it'll be), and the Fate stuff in the game has character development that you won't see here.

Not going to lie, I really liked episode 5. They completely flubbed up Joe's backstory, but i've long since realized he's a lost cause in the anime(though again, he's not outright "bad" just different) The extra little things they added were actually pretty good this time since they weren't expected and they actually keep you interested. Jungo / Airi scenes were amazing.

I wish Hibiki's jacket were real, Id totally wear it IRL. I love the little ear thingys and how they move around when he walks and even in the action scene. But
if Hibiki dies too, I cant. Theyve already failed thwarting the Niceae thing so, I dont even know what to expect anymore, Daichi better survive too!
.

The scene with Alcor and Hotsuin talking with their brief retrospective shown and then coming back to the present day as the instrumental piece of the ED played was so good. I know both have interest in Hibiki, but more scenes of just Alcor and Hotsuin would be welcomed if they can be just as compelling and interesting, and their voices and expressions too.

Daichi could be handled so much better, it makes me all sad and distressed by how they keep making him stay in a support role, could he shine too or something, switch roles with Nitta or something, please.

Oh and my characters would be Keita Daichi > Alcor Hotsuin > Hibiki > Jungo.

Just saying, in the game, Daichi is just as cowardly and such, but Io's role is oddly subverted. In the game, she is much more brave and competent. She is more important too. They are reversed roles of DeSu 1 characters, Yuzu and Atsuro.

Devil Survivor 2: The Animation - Episode 5

This episode could've been a lot worse, but it was actually not so bad, pretty enjoyable. The Jungo and Airi interactions were pretty fun, if sparse.

I think that currently the moral compasses of the show are a combination of Jungo and Ronaldo. They both have their misgivings--Jungo seems to be portrayed as too much of a follower and Ronaldo's contempt for Yamato is going to taint the practice of his ideology--but I think they create a message of cooperation and empathy for fellow humans that the show's getting at. I feel like Jungo's question in response to Airi telling him to think for himself ("Ask who, about what?") was pretty insightful, given how little he had to go on. Where would he start looking for answers, and what answers does he need? Yamato's only getting sympathy for his raising, not for his ideals.

The MC sucks now, fuck him. The bunny hoodie with flames in the background sucks. I understand he needs to be sensitive enough to make his shock and despair at deaths believable, and ideologically wayward so he can be receptive to other people explaining their ideas, but he sucks.

Io was better here, as long as she doesn't say "Hibiki-kunnnnn!" she's better. Daichi...eh.

Joe and Otome! Both of their voices did not sound as I expected them to. We barely saw Joe but he was alright I guess--though the abruptness of his characterization is tragic. And couldn't they at least have mentioned Otome's name in this episode?
PLS don't do this to me

I don't understand why people love Joe so much. He's such an ass, especially when they try to go into his backstory.
Am I seriously supposed to feel bad for Joe? He leaves his girlfriend behind when she needs him the most, and only starts caring when its already too late. It's hard to be sympathetic at all with someone like Joe, since the only person really suffering is his girlfriend.
Not to mention he does nothing but get in the way of the rest of the characters. He helps Ronaldo all of once in the game, and that's about it. But that's all okay because he's zany and wacky, right?!

Joe is seriously the worst character. The faster they kill him off, the better.

Something that I'm little disappointed by is that they haven't included the songs from the game in the anime, like P4 did.

Two episodes in, not feeling it at all. The whole show is just kind of lame. Battles look terrible, MC just stands there with his phone. It's like watching a Pokemon battle (which are pretty shit). Might be a cool game though.

What do you want the mc to do? Pull out a bazooka and shoot shit?

Watch ep 3. If you don't like it after that, just drop it.

Anyway this isn't main SMT or Raidou or whatever where the main character is godly and can trash demons on his own...the characters here are just normal high school kids for the most part. The characters can fight in the game but that probably doesn't translate well into an anime. Persona 4 anime was the same. Though it would be cool if the characters can use their phones to cast Zio or some shit on their own. Don't know why they don't show them doing that.

Okay you were right, episode 3 was much better. Thanks for the recommendation.

It was also unintentionally funny... couldn't help but laugh at the cracker lines.

I thought it was pretty weak of him to ditch his girlfriend like that, but it's understandable. He goes into this negative cycle where he can't face his girlfriend because he ditched her, but he knows that he needs to be there for her... It's easy to armchair when you have the universal viewpoint of everything, but it's tough being in a relationship with someone who's ill. He's a flawed person with problems that go beyond the current circumstance of the apocalypse. That said, he actually does end visiting his girlfriend if you do his fate links, and
she's alive in the triumphant ending
.

As for getting in the way of others... are you serious? Have you not played the original game? He goes out of his way to help the less fortunate by distributing food,
gives his life to save a bunch of strangers
and is with the group from day 1. The anime glosses over the fact he's right at the forefront of every battle.

Good episode. Airi & Jungo were my favorite again.

At this point is kinda hard to predict what will happen next since the events are pretty different from the game.

Also, they keep showing Hinako's "death" flashback but she still shows at the ending. Is she alive or what, wtf?!

Episode 6

I couldn't take the episode seriously at all until Daichi shook Hibiki so hard his hood went back down. That was the most useful thing Daichi did in the series so far. That bunny hoodie is sooo ridiculous. The demon fanservice this week was really good. Lots of classic SMT demons! I think the show is still pretty iffy in general, but it's pretty entertaining as a SMT and DS2 fan. :D

I think it's more "guilt at not being able to keep her out from harm" than "guilt that she died because of me". At least the plot is moving forward, and it's getting more interesting, not to mention seeing most of the characters together too,
shame that we have almost no Fumi ;_;
. The only thing that's bugging me now is that we aren't getting the preview of the next episode. Oh, well.

Also, was it just me, or animation wasn't up to snuff this time around?

Is the hoodie a bunny or Jack Frost?

Anyway, solid episode. Things got interesting at the end. I thought they were going to detach completely from Yamato at that point, but unless this anime changes things he needs to be there for some of the strategies later.

Something interesting I just noticed: during the OP, they show both scenes from the previous episode, and scenes from the current episode. Sort of an neat way to do things.

Also, it's probably one of the laziest OPs I've seen in general.

tumblr_mmjpmhbNpy1qlcw9co1_r1_500.gif

Perhaps Im enjoying this anime too much but I really loved so many moments in the episode. The mix of character drama and battling ideals with the demons works really well across the whole series and was really interesting and fun here. Actually pretty pleasing to me just for the sake of Daichi and his devotion to Hibiki. If Hibiki wasnt so staunch on his own ways and would just listen and let others lend a hand. How could anyone turn down Daichi? I couldn't.

Second half was fantastic
Almost thought Hibiki would somehow die after we saw how Keita went and they brought it up again this episode. No one else was down there so it seemed highly liking but thankfully our other Sparkling One had to appear and in great fashion. The moon made it so much better to match his personality, air of coolness around him, and just his voice too as he used such an amazing Demon.
The ending moments made me smile and laugh so much, those three are so great.

Tuesday has been great.

Never noticed any of that, because I skip the OP every week to protect my ears. Lol.

I knew DTL would like this episode.

The opening is decent. The beginning is good but then it gets cheesy.

The ending is badass though.

Just noticed that the anime went several positions up in the "popular" list in Crunchyroll and now is at #5. Pretty cool.

On the other hand myanimelist reviewers hate it. Well there are only four of them so far and I think early reviews on that site tend to be negative even for the best series. One person only watched 2 eps and is mad and confused that the whole thing about the apps/Nicaea isn't explain yet and that summoning demons from cell phones makes no sense. Lol.

It still has a 7.55 overall though.

My rule with following a series as it's airing is to stick with it for the long haul, or don't even bother with it until the series is over. Reviews that are only a few episodes into the show are always the worst, whether they're positive or negative. The positive people might just be praising it on a few good episodes, and it might turn to shit later (Guilty Crown). And the negative people probably didn't even give it that much of a chance to play out.

If you can't even wait to finish the whole series before you write an actual review, you probably shouldn't be 'reviewing' it in the first place. A review is supposed to tell the audience about your opinion on the entirety of whatever you are reviewing. I like to think of a review almost like grading an essay. Imagine if you had a professor who read the first paragraph of an essay you wrote, decided they didn't like it, and just gave it a D right then and there.

Saw 4 & 5. I loooove how this show is handling Ronaldo and JPs. So much better than the game. This is the SMT anime the world deserves.

Episode 7

Decent episode. A bit fanservicey. duckroll will like it.

I liked how Ronaldo tried to fight Alcor with his dudes but got swatted. And hell yeah, Yamato taking on part of Megrez by himself in Tokyo (worst boss in the game...I didn't think the final boss was as bad). I liked his "worthless garbage" line too.

Going by what Hibiki said about going against Yamato's plans they won't be going on Yamato's route. I doubt Ronaldo's route is an option either. I expected that though.

Also,
cool, Hinako is alive.
Dat crying.

About Io (game spoilers)
she'll be set up as a sacrifice soon. Wonder if they'll actually kill her off...I doubt it.

Edit: Btw I must've missed something but why was Yamato's hand bleeding?

Could have something to do with Alcor disabling the summoning app.

Great episode, lots of awesome setup.

"You were watching her?"
"It was an accident."
"All right."

Jungo - still best. Joe was great too. Heck, everyone is.

Bifrons was great too. Love the demons. More with voices please.

And is it just me, or is Daichi's gay-dar off the charts?

^The only thing saving him from falling into that hole is that he reacted faster than the MC when they saw
Io

Good episode, and also very funny the second half(before presenting the outline of the plan, of course). Shame that the CR translators missed the joke about Kuriki->Clicky

Edit: Btw I must've missed something but why was Yamato's hand bleeding?

I think it was because he broke his cell phone. It's the only thing I have.

EDIT: AIRI!!! x3
