The games will perk you up. Keep your spirits up and think of the first time you booted Halo on Xbox. No matter how badly MS abuses the platform, in good developers we trust. They'll be gems and we'll play them to death.

that's why its really sad, i think the ps4 thread has gone well for everyone because nobody from the nintendo and microsoft camp would dare ruin the experience of a new console announcement. and if there is any, that is just some envious troll who has a lot of time in has hands.

but in this thread, other xbox threads and the other nintendo threads, you could literally see there's more people trying to ruin what should be a great discussion for those who are interested in what microsoft is trying to bring.

The Polygon and Verge guys were such assholes with snark pouring out of their pores during the PS4 reveal, I can't wait to see how they react to the Microsoft event.

If there is a 'change' to the spec it will have been made a while ago and only just communicated.

If they tried to re-engineer something so complex the launch would be pushed back... the absolutely did not and do not have time to make significant change to the hardware after February 21st and still be out in November.

Stop pretending something can happen just because you wish they had specs to match sony.... if they do it will be because they planned it for a while... as recently as Feb Edge was saying it is less powerful.

That might not actually matter one bit once we see them both in action.

There are a lot of people who don't believe the leaked specs for the 720 and believe that it is stronger then the PS4.

The crazy ones like Reiko who believe MS changed the leaked specs after the PS4 announcement are a bit nutty though...the logistics for that would be insane.

If the 720 is announced and it is stronger then the PS4, then it was stronger all along.

But don't blame the Sony fans for this thread going at a snails pace. If anything, were bumping it back to the top of the page.

Logistics are only insane if they were only developing one GPU

Considering what we know, it seems like MS/AMD have been mainly messing with the memory controllers of existing chip designs. This means the potential final arrangement of the GPU can be different- as long as they've been engineering multiple chips at a time as a precautionary measure.

Doing this method in the end would likely be cheaper than 360s GPU R&D while giving them flexibility.

They could even change the memory types if they so choose. (Though I doubt they will considering they are paying attention to QoS for developers... Latencies and all that jazz)

I mean the leak that specified the cpu,gpu, ram etc...I think it was from "live leaks"?

But you do know we are agreeing with each other?

We are both saying the 720 could be more powerful if it was planned that way before the PS4 announcement.

I was just stating that a from-scratch change to the configuration after the PS4 announcement is logistically impossible.

Again, you might see more steam with this thread if the MS fanboys hadn't tried to force it way too early.

Also, a lot of people are pretty down on the Durango from the rumors, so it makes sense that they're not as excited.

... Yeees? The people on THIS forum, as that happens to be what we were talking about? Regarding why this thread isn't as active as the PS4 one was -- because that thread happened prematurely, and since then people (yes, on this forum) have been bothered by the Durango rumors.

I know you're eager to defend the ship, but I wasn't arguing what you seem to think I may have hinted at...

this thread is surprisingly subdued. i dont necessarily buy your explanation, i'm not sure why.

the post above me is def true though. sony dominates forums/youtube comments/the internet over nintendo and ms.

I don't think so. I don't think that is true in the least. For years, Sony was utterly shat on by Gaffers. 599 starting it all and it seriously snowballed from there. It wasn't until Uncharted 2 released until things started to look up. Microsoft brought this on because of their past two E3 performances.

That is right, the tease of the first ever glimpse into the next gen of consoles generated a high level excitement that would be hard to match.
 
Hype aside, Microsoft has to be at least excited to know there's going to be a shit-ton of people glued to their screens if only for their giant ad for the next Xbox right smack dab in the middle of the 360 UI as soon as you boot the thing up. That's pretty good for them.

I don't really remember. I just remember being hyped as hell.

The thing about it is most of us went into the PS4 event wondering, what the heck are they gonna show? How much will they show? Heck, there's a sliver of a chance that it won't be about the PS4 at all. Will the Vita be there? Will third parties be there? It had a bit of mystery to it all.

With the MS event coming, I think the mood is more like we want answers. People don't want a used games block, people don't want always online, some don't want DVR/Kinect focus, and it's mainly more of a buzz of "well MS better straighten out all these rumors!" At least, that's how I feel anyways. It feels less mysterious since the curtain has been pulled back and we've already got a glimpse of some next gen games.

I'm seeing just as much Xbox coverage online as I did PS4. Actually there's been more for the Xbox pre announcement because Microsoft has dragged it out so long.

Microsoft is being shat on for rumours.

Apples and oranges and all that.
 
Plus the PS4 event had the advantage of debuting what the next-generation of games would look like. With the Nextbox, we have a generally idea what they will look like.

PS4 was really exciting because it was the absolute first glimpse of the next few years of graphics.

A shift to casual/Kinect focus, ads all over the dashboard, a seeming distaste for the new dashboard in general, hiding otherwise-available apps behind the Gold paywall, Gold going up in price and looking less attractive every day, the annualization of Halo, dropping the 360 like a lead weight as soon as holiday 2012 was over...

The rumors certainly have made things worse, but let's not pretend like MS hasn't been on a trend here lately.

YOU ARE SO DAMN RIGHT.

The reason this thread is the way it is nothing to do with the facts that:

MS have let first party support for the 360 die
MS have not bothered to engage with their audience and challenge any negative rumours
MS's own staff haven't told us to 'Deal with it'
MajorNelson has been unwilling or unable to comment on Durango, but was bitching about the Sony reveal within minutes.... wasn't it Microsoft who used to allude to 'Sony getting their own house in order' rather than commenting on MS's plans?
That their very own text for the reveal prioritises TV and Entertainment
That gamers do not want a Kinect 2 but will have to stomach the cost of one regardless
No one wants always online - if that wasn't true they could simply say it and it wouldn't reveal anything.

No... it's got nothing to do with any of that... its that Sony and Nintendo fans don't respect console launch threads.

A lot of the people worried / concerned actually own both systems... personally I want both of them to be good and would have put money on things being the other way around.

At this point (and of course it could all change) it feels like Sony have changed their culture and taken MS totally off guard.

The run up to 360 was a feeding frenzy of one amazing rumour after another... The run up to Durango has been one of 'WTF' rumours. That is what is actually going on and MS have done nothing to stop it.
 
Now. Now is the time that I can say that MS is going in as the underdog on GAF. I got shitted on the first time but a few months later it's undeniable. I'm very curious to see how it plays out. I'm putting money down day one for a PS4 but I refuse to count MS out until I have the whole picture.
