Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

Gonna pick up either Resident Evil 2 or 3 to play on my Vita. Really loved RE4, never got into the others. Never played either of them, so there is no nostalgia factor. Which one do I get?

I'd say spend the 4-5$ for whatever they are and get both. If you've never played them you can't go wrong but I'd not go in expecting a RE4 experience. They're glorious in their own way but the gameplay at least to me is oh-so-different.

I bought 2 and 3 last night. I gave 2 a try and I got SUPER OWNED. Right now I'm just playing it on some super easy mode that gives you infinite ammo=not infuriating gameplay. :P The atmosphere is great, and actually makes you forget about the tank controls (while playing with infinite ammo).

They are both fantastic. Pro-Tip, map the controller as follows:

D-Pad Up => Left Analog Up
D-Pad Down => Left Analog Down
D-Pad Left => Right Analog Left
D-Pad Right => Right Analog Right
Action Button (I think it is x) => Left Trigger Button

Viola. No more tank controls.

Vitabros! I need your help. The flash sale on Tomb Raider on PSN has put me in a bit of a predicament. I can either get Tomb Raider for $20 (I got $10 back from spending $50 during the promo) or Soul Sacrifice for $30. The two are very different games, and I've played the demo for Soul Sacrifice. It wasn't addicting, but I could see myself buying it and having a lot of fun...but...the same could be said for Tomb Raider. What do?

Get soul sacrifice. Tomb Raider's price can only go down as time goes by.

Although I LOVED Tomb Raider (i'm about to buy it for the 3rd time - retail, Steam, and PSN), but i'd say go with Soul Sacrifice. You'll get more value simply because the multiplayer is eons better than Tomb Raiders. It took me about 15hrs to beat the story and get all the collectibles. Soul Sacrifice will take much longer.

Just finished Thomas was alone + DLC. It is a nice, sweet little game that i enjoyed a lot. The game starts slow but becomes more interesting and fun along the way. It has a polished feel with nice graphics in a nice colored minimal design.

It features enjoyable music and voice work and has a lot of atmosphere for being a game about rectangles. Also, it is a nice puzzle/platform game with interesting gameplay ideas and mechanics. It's a tad on the easy side but that isn't a problem since not every game needs to be hard. It's a game that can be played in a relaxed way, without frustration, which is nice.

The story/characterisation of the rectangles didn't interest me at all and it never did make the rectangles more than rectangles for me, which is a shame (since it seemed to work for most people). I didn't bother me though and i applaud the effort of trying.

All in all, a really really nice game.

Now the countdown starts to 15 May for Velocity Ultra, which should be fantastic.

It may just be me late to noticing this but the vita now seems to log you onto PSN immediately upon waking up whereas before it felt like I was logged out until I launch a PSN app or game with online.

Yeah, I noticed that since firmware 2.10. Actually, you stay logged into PSN even in sleep mode now; you just receive notifications again when you 'wake up' the system.

i would say to go for soul sacrifice. i played tomb raider at a friends house last weekend and it seemed fun, but that game is going to drop in price and probably isn't worth having digitally. are you really going to come back to it after you beat it? soul sacrifice seems like a good digital purchase.

EDF2017 Portable is the best £23.99 I've spent in a long time. My Vita is absolutely indispensable.

Yeah I really need to get the game too... I've been dying to get it. I've been posting in that Kamitani thread too much, I'm scared I might get in trouble - all I've been doing is defend Dragon's Crown and his art. The world outside of the Vita thread is scary guys :((

I'll go against the grain here and say:
Chie = Marie = Naoto = Rise = Yokiko
(in alphabetical order)

Its like Pokemon - gotta catch 'em all!

Haha. Im like 15 hours in my character so far is like Batman, hes more interested in developing his own skills and trying to figure out whats happening in the city. I hope its not too late when I try to finally develop a relationship with the girlz -_-

Yup i'd go with SS. TR's price will probably be going down even sooner. If your in EU it will probably be free on PS+ by the end of the year (lol).

What game is this?

How does the online work? And are there many people online?

Looks like a lot of fun from the few things I've seen of it, not sure about the online thing though. And the price seems a bit high as well. If they get 33% off I'll grab it, what it should have been day 1.

Persona 4 Golden. I didnt play it at first when the game came out for the PS2 back in 2008. So far its one of the best experiences I've ever had with a RPG and I played games like Baldur's Gate 2 and KOTOR.
Damn will have to get that soon, but just bough GoW:Ascension and Soul Sacrifice. Sounds cool just from what I'm reading here about it.

Not really Vita related but I totally forgot Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is on the next PSN update!!!, keep your eye on that one peeps.

Gotta take care of some bills and then I preorder my Soul Sacrifice copy from BB. Excite!

You guys are gross. Kanji >>> all, but you can't even romance him. :(

I'm torn on Soul Sacrifice. I know I won't like it that much, but I'll feel bad if I don't pre-order it. What to dooo? Usually when I'm on the fence like this I just purchase blindly and hope for the best, but...

Just buy it.

I don't even care if you don't play it.

Bitches please. Yukiko's the best girl in P4 I mean do you even hear yourselves right now? Rise and Chie better than Yukiko?? Oh lord

Didn't you post that you didn't like the demo? You shouldn't buy the full game then.

Don't get it. You didn't like the demo, and it was huge which means it was a good representation of the game. If you didn't like that, chances are you wouldn't like the full game.

If you know you won't like it than you probably shouldn't buy it. Although, you should feel bad for not buying it ;).

Couldn't tell you chap, I've only been playing it solo so far. Just great fun to fire up a mission and spend ten minutes blasting giant ants here 'n' there.

The price is a little on the high side, even though they've dropped it since release. This kind of PS2 style jank is right up my alley though.

Damn PSO2 is the best game ever...

SS Demo finally removed form my Vita. Decided I'd play it longer to see if I was wrong about my preferences, but I just have more things I dislike now.

I gave Thomas Was Alone to my gf to try out and she ended up finished 2 chapters (?) -- it was hilarious because she really hates Chris. Just remarkable how coloured rectangles can have so much personality. Narration is awesome.

Since there are SHUMPs on their way and I have too many games, I decided to break up my collection into 4 sections now:

- Combat (NGS, SFxT, PSO2 etc.)
- Adventure/RPG (Gravity Rush, VLS, Persona, MGSHD etc.) <-- FFX-2 will go in here
- Arcade/Pick-up 'n play (Wipeout, Sound Shapes, TWA, JSRHD, Glaucamelee etc.) <-- SHUMPs will go in here

In the process of making wallpapers for each, I'll post pics.

what do you not like about SS? (i took some time to like it... I really disliked the dark theme.. it was messing with my emotions.. lol when I tried to save Sotiara again and again)

I really need to decide on Thomas Was Alone. sheesh

(what's with all the name listing.. lol did I miss something)

I've been playing EDF only solo for a while now as well - it's my first one in the series, thought I'd try and know what I'm doing before going online but maybe tomorrow I'll jump in, just went back to it and Sonic Racing the other day. Such great games. Love fun replayable games.

It's not Monster Hunter.

I really don't want to do this again, but... I wasn't saying SS should be more like MH, I was just saying how they're not similar as everyone keeps stating. I also used MH as an example of how to make combat more interesting, I could have used many other games such as PSO2.

What I don't like about it is pretty much its combat. I don't really mind its setting and whatnot. After playing it much more than last time I found the variety of Magic were cool, but ultimately the combat didn't feel very satisfying. Collecting, levelling up etc. I look over those things.

I remember you kept posting that SS is different from MH, but you focused your entire argument on how SS should have been more like MH.

I'm so confused.

Well initially I was just saying what I didn't like about SS's combat,
and then a fellow poster compared MH's to SS's,
and I went to agree that MH has what SS is missing in terms of options and multi-dimentionality...

Then the whole SS = faster MH came along.

SS is not really a straight up melee game, and I've learnt that it doesn't try to be. It has great variety in attacks and enemy design (graphics), but I don't like some things people love about it. It doesn't matter 'cause I have PSO2 now -- the demo for SS was long enough for me.

EDIT - Here!

Aaaaand PSO2! (I have a LV34 Ranger and LV27 Hunter now)

I hate that the Vita compresses the image right before it applies it as a wallpaper. What is this, Internet Explorer 7?

If SEGA doesn't bring PSO2 to the US, I might just boycott their products for the rest of my life... I'd love it on the Vita, but would be fine with just the PC version.

seems like the SS Red Vita bundle is coming to my home country (Singapore) for a whopping 439SGD (1USD = 1.3SGD)
http://asia.playstation.com/sg/en/news/pressDetail/308700

but what is interesting in that press release... is the lower price of the digital copy
Singapore, 26th April 2013 – Following the release of “SOUL SACRIFICE (Japanese version)”, Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong Limited（SCEH）today announced that the SOUL SACRIFICE (English Version) software title for PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita) will be released on May 2nd, 2013 at the suggested retail price of SGD54.90 (including tax) for PS Vita card version and at SGD44.90 (including tax) for download version.

if only the US PSN store has a slight discount for digital (Day One) games.
but I guess retailers would not be too happy
