but nothing's says that isn't happening also. Sony is going have it's 3rd party exclusives also with 1st party games.

Team Fortress 2 is always online and I hear it's been doing good without any criticism. Always-online only becomes a problem when the SP is a large portion of the game, like SimCity.
 
Hmm, I really hope MS puts out some good hardware cause I really want to see this game in action and have it look amazing. Interesting choice to be using the source engine, maybe we are close to a source 2.0 reveal?
 
I was weirded out at the Source engine inclusion, but then I remembered the engine's Quake lineage and thought, "oh". Imagine the idea is to the newest stuff Valve has on hand (ie the post-CS:GO "Source 2" revision they've been building for several years).

I'm still mystified that they get licensees when they practically don't advertise, lol.

Yes. Dear Esther shipped with its own particular source code changes.
 
It makes sense that they're using Source (if they actually are), given that it's the successor engine to id Tech 3 (in terms of how it works under the hood) which the CoD games they made previously are built on top of.
 
Technically, moving from the Quake 3 engine to Source is like a generational leap forward for the CoD people.

Think of the glorious future. Like Sony alread hinted at it with Uncharted's social integration, but every single trophy/achievement from every single person on you FL is going to hit twitter and facebook.
 
If Respawn felt like they really had the next CoD then no amount of money that MS could pay would suffice to moneyhat the exclusive... Just sayin.
 
If we're talking about exclusive FPS games, unless it's something narrative based like Bioshock, I really don't care.

Sort of bummed that it's not using Frostbite 3, but different tech will probably separate the games nicely in terms of visual style.

Can't wait to see what they've come up with, EA has another potential behemoth FPS that, along with Battlefield, could grab an even larger share of the FPS market.
 
Source? I have no idea, but that intrigues me very much. Working with a seasoned engine like that must have some benefits over Frostbite, and if I were a betting man, I'd put money down on it being 60FPS.
 
Interesting. If this is true, could this be EA's venture into MMO-ish MP games ala Destiny (and to some extent Planetside 2)?

FUSE from Insomniac is running on their own in-house engine. EA partners should have freedom to work with whatever technology they think is best for them. EA is only publishing.

Still working on it to be sure, but Valve is never not working on it. Their blue moon licensees just opt in when they're comfortable (ie Vampire devs licensing at alpha, Zeno Clash devs licensing post-Orange Box, etc).

Giant robots are cool but...foot soliders? Really? Out of the hundreds of other games that have used giant robots without soldiers they thought "hmm, how can we have a military FPS but spice it up a bit...let's add robots!" Why even use that setting? Admittedly I'm jumping the gun and making a lot of assumptions but they really could have completely shied away from military anything

And don't get me started on it being an FPS...
 
It's damned funny that a couple of guys who built their success on a game series that uses an engine with the guts of the Quake 3 engine are now making a game using an engine that has quite a bit of Quake 2 (or is it the original Quake 1?) engine guts still in it.

Wake me up when they ever make a MMOFPS. Other than that, I don't care. Nice to see the return of exclusives though.
 
"From the Creators of Modern Warfare. . ." fuck it's over haha. Microsoft is going to snatch so many people up. My step dad is literally that gamer who buys COD every year, the games provide him with hundreds of hours of entertainment. He only plays COD and the occasional AAA(GT4, MGS4),he might lean towards a 720 over a PS4 because of something like this.

One less online fps shooter for me to buy.

Personally think this doesn't make much sense for EA. This is a genre that is stuffed with competition and will even have to compete with Halo and Gears, mot to mention the emergence of Destiny. Also if this game could sell a million or more units on playstation then that is a huge check MS is throwing their way. I hope it back fires worse than the GTA IV DLC.
 
Details sound interesting. This could be Microsoft's big exclusive this gen. I could see it replacing Gears in their lineup since that series is likely done for a while.

Surprising that it's on Source. I wonder if it'll be a new version or not.

Valve have been intending to get streaming into the engine since Episode Two's development, the idea that it isn't going to happen for nextgen is borderline nutty.

Sure but is there anything Source does better than CryEngine or Frostbite?

I mean, Valve can get that engine to stand up on its hind legs and dance, but for third party developers?
