Kotaku Rumor: Respawn's Game Xbox 360/720 Only, always-online, FPS, Includes Details

So its a dark souls FPS set in the future?

Damn.I had a feeling it would be exclusive. It will be interesting if they can truly catch lightning in a bottle again.

No promises that it would be the Next CoD4 either.

Eh, I can't say anything (NDAs you know, and it's not like I know everything anyway) but... Don't believe everything you read on the internet :P

PS: Out of curiosity, can you contact a mod via PM and tell them if something is true or false privately to avoid leaking stuff?

You can contact me and confirm or deny stuff too. I'll keep it secret.

This doesn't surprise me in the least, MS will probably cover the cost for marketing and whantot to push this as the next big thing.
It disappoints me though, that MS are apparently going for the same crowd they did before, pushing a FPS sci-fi game doesn't really do it for me. If all they can do is offer shooters or Kinect family games then more power to them, but I'm not interested.

What do you expect? That a mod will close the thread with the info that this rumor isn't true? ;)

So that's how Destiny/Activision became pro-Sony.

Iiiiinteresting . . .

Um, you do know it's all but confirmed that Destiny will be on the new Xbox, right? And Bungie has already hinted at Halo-themed items for Destiny on the Xbox in their forums. Bungie is going to stay neutral in this by offering exclusives on both sides.

If this is true I'd say this is a huge advantage for M$ and Durango. Sony has shown that the number of triple-A exclusives doesn't matter if they don't attract a mainstream or advertise well. Microsoft could just have this and Halo and they'd be on top. Especially if on the box of the game it says "From the minds behind the Modern Warfare series".

To be fair, Microsoft will already sell boatloads to the shooter crowd based upon the strength of Halo and Gears alone. Microsoft's platform is already the go-to platform for AAA shooters. As other poster noted, I'm more curious about other exclusives that Microsoft would have acquired. Hypothetical example: Microsoft already has Ryse from Crytek, but secures exclusivity on Fallout 4/GTA5/though a first promising first attempt would be more likely to establish that it is the go-to console for open world games.

3rd parties pickin sides. Love it.

Sony: SE, Ubisoft, Activision (?)

MS: EA, Bethesda (?), Epic (?)

Neutrals will be shot on sight.

Bethesda, wut?
Also Ubi are on everyones side, SE are on nobodies side, Activision I suspect probably are on Sony's side - how on earth are they suppose to get support for a game that will directly compete with the game MS is going to sell as the next big thing.

Respawn's game might be great but ex-Bungie VS ex-IW is a battle in the making.

If true, this sounds more like competition for Destiny than Call of Duty.

Anyway, this is a kind of a weird move by EA/Respawn to go exclusive, but whatever.

Yup, when Activision learned that MS grabbed Respawn's game they got so sad and felt so violated that they went to Sony and offered them some exclusive DLC for free.

If this is true tho, there's a slight difference between exclusive content in a game and a game being exclusive to a platform, timed or not.

I am just referencing to the exclusive DLC for AC4 and WD (not the first Ubi Playstation boons either). SE is definately more close with Sony if they are co-operating with development of main FF title.

Bethesda is just speculation. I don't mean for this stuff to be taken too seriously :)

I don't think there's really anything to suggest the bolded right now. Epic is just because of past association, but I don't know whether they'd really want to be tied to a single platform this gen. And EA isn't even really picking sides, this is a new IP, it's a low risk move from them - FIFA, Battlefield etc are still going multiplatform. And the SE thing is just a rumor at present.

I can't wait to see how it plays so I can anticipate not buying it because my internet connection won't facilitate always-online games!

I might have actually been somewhat interested in this if not for the always-online bit.

I wont called it a Megaton , its a new IP and MS is on a hurry to get games for Durango...

It's from the guys who worked on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, then created Call of Duty, then introduced Call of Duty 2 to console gamers, then developed Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

These are all seminal games.

Yes, they developed MW2, but in under two years and mostly because Activision forced them to. And they did fix most of the complaints, by my understanding.

For a LONG time, like, pre-MW, we've heard rumors that they've been wanting to create a Future Warfare game. Looks like we're finally getting that.

This would be like Miyamoto creating some new core IP thing.

Unless this magically pops up on Source2... I'm not sure I understand.

It will look terrible with games like BF4, KZ, Destiny, etc all coming out. Hell even CoD will look better.

So that's how Destiny/Activision became pro-Sony.

Iiiiinteresting . . .

It's silly to think Bungie/Activision are pro-Sony, you know Microsoft still has that contract with Activision for the exclusive rights to CoD DLC early right? The only thing Bungie/Activison have done with Sony is say "Hey, Destiny on PS4 will have exclusive DLC". I'm sure Destiny on Durango will have exclusive DLC as well, and the DLC for both will be minor things like armor or such.

Just speculation+DLC moneyhats or whatever it is. Don't take it too seriously :D

Previous generation I'd have said its because theyre a smaller team and don't have the resources for multi-platform.

But then PS4 and Durango have such similar architectures thats just not even remotely an excuse anymore. So its a total bought and paid for scenario. Wonder if theres a "if it sells like shit, we porting" stipulation...

Bungie being in Sony's camp?

Come on, I know some are looking for a way to downplay this news but please don't use that argument. Bungie and MS are still pretty tight and they left on good terms.

In the long term, unless third parties expect one platform or the other to take off like the PS2 (and I don't think any of them do), multiplatform development is in their best interests. The short term of launch is something of an all bets are off scenario I guess.

But I expect the systems will sell comparably over the generation; as the generation goes on, single platform titles will simply halve the potential audience to sell to.

Bethesda having a exclusivity deal (timed or otherwise) is not such a long shot. Bethesda had some deals with Microsoft this gen, Fallout/Skyrim performance woes on PS3 could have damaged its image on Playstation user base, and who knows if those didn't have some effect on SOny/Bethesda relationship either? Not that far fetched in my opinion.

This has been said each time this it's brought up. It's best to just wait until Bungie is able to talk about the new Xbox.

People thinking Bungie "has chosen a side" sure is adorable though. They have already hinted at Halo-themed items for the Xbox in Destiny in their forums. Bungie is going to stay neutral in all of this.

It's still happening with Black Ops 2 and it's highly unlikely that trend will end.
Reading comprehension? I said last game it applies 2 is BLOPS2.
Now do you have any links that say they extended the contract? If not, you have no basis for that "highly unlikely" remark. NONE.

So we can assume this game started as a multiplatform project since they were hiring PS3 programmers, MS must have paid a lot to secure exclusivity specially if it isn't timed exclusive.
