Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

Hmm. Got sacrificed online for the first time and tapped on my allies to boost their attack.

As I was doing it, there was a bar that would deplete a bit as I tapped and then refill if I stopped. What does that bar mean?

Exactly what you posted. It just shows how long you can tap the screen to boost your ally's attack or lower the enemy's defense before you have to wait for a recharge.

one thing I never understood. how long does the effect of each tap last? or is it as long as you keep them tapped?

I wanted to lower enemy defense + increase allies' attack at the same time... lol but seems like it does not work out

I see.

It's a genius mechanic, by the way. Other multiplayer games should take note.

Last question - there's no disadvantage to being sacrificed other than not getting the life or magic boost from either saving or sacrificing the boss, right? Based on my short time with the demo, I gain everything else that the other players do.

The effect remains as long as your finger stays on the screen.

Not at all. In fact, being sacrificed is actually beneficial at times since it gives you 80 points at the end.

actually it'll be nice to see how one's score stacks up against the rest on the team.

Free velocity ultra tomorrow!

No.
For EU, it'd be free Velocity Ultra in 2 weeks from tomorrow. Game comes out the week of 5/15.

As long as the bar isn't depleted, yes, it's as long as you hold your finger on something.

You don't get the LE/SE or the experience.
You do get a bonus "Martyr" reward (akin to using your black rite basically) and +80 to your score (which can help you hit a higher rewards tier and get more offerings, again, like using your black rite).

Being sacrificed is so boring. The sacrificed state should give you a good amount of useful info on the players and enemies instead of the enemy's health only, and the opportunity to boost attacks and lower defenses. Unless it becomes more useful the further you progress in the game.

Yeah, it can be boring, but it can also be the difference between a win and a loss.
Someone is using DEF down on the boss while a black rite or sacrifice spell is going off? Or attack up on someone who is beating the snot out the boss with an offering it's weak to?

Definitely can make a difference.
Also can give you time to get up and get a beverage or snack. :P

Being able to to screw over the douche that sacrificed you would be nice for extra martyr rewards.

Well, sometimes you want to be sacrificed -- sure you don't get the boss's LE/SE or the experience, but you still get all the martyr rewards and stuff.

But I like the way you think. Would remove my need to keep a list and check it twice... ;)

What exactly is broken about it right now?
Yeah. What's wrong with you content manager? And what exactly are you using it for?

Essentially, let's say you download a new MP3. The Content Manager keeps track of your music folder and automatically updates itself so that if you want to transfer that MP3 to your Vita, you can. With the new firmware update, it no longer does this. So if you try to connect to your PC to get your new content, it doesn't see anything that's new. So, you have to tell it to rebuild the database.

But, since you just tried to connect, you can't rebuild the database until your Vita disconnects from your PC. This takes forever on its own, or you can turn your Vita all the way off. Then you have to rebuild, turn the Vita back on, wait for it to "install" the cart game that's inside of it, and you can finally re-connect to transfer the file(s).

For me, I put podcasts and Howard Stern episodes onto my Vita b/c I have a long drive and multiple bus rides every day. So now I run into this issue on a daily basis. If I forget to manually rebuild the database, and I'm in a hurry on my way out the door, that means no new content for the day. With PSP, you just plug the thing into your PC and copy files over. It's so painless in comparison.

...I think you completely missed the point of the game's theme and mechanics if you think that an ally who sacrificed you is a "douche" who should be punished for having done so.

As I said up there, yes, there are cases where you're correct.
But there's also cases where people are just rampaging dishrags. Like the guy who got mad that I tried to sacrifice him when Cerberus was orange and I needed stunlock so I could pick the other 2 back up without fear of dying... he IMMEDIATELY sacrificed me the second I went down in the next round, while the boss was still green, for revenge only.

Just pray you run into the people who play the game right instead of the griefers.

somehow picked up a 16gb memory card for £12 in a crack converters after haggling... now what games or demos do you recommend I install from ps plus as all i've tried from my download list is wipeout.

Unreal Engine 3 games on Vita:

- Mortal Kombat
- Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock
- Smart As
- Zombie Tycoon 2
- Jacob Jones and the Bigfoot Mystery

Being used pretty often for an engine that hasn't been optimized by Epic on the platform.

Oh, Zombie Tycoon 2 is as well? Interesting. I wonder if it's native res. I mean, Smart As was, but it was hardly graphically taxing. Doctor Who and Mortal Kombat were sub-native. I will find out in a minute when it finishes downloading and let any weirdo like me know.

Edit: Actually it's a little hard to tell. If it is sub-native, it's not that far off from native resolution. It doesn't look perfectly crisp so I don't think it's native res, but it doesn't look very blurry either. I tried taking screenshots but they looked absolutely horrible and I can't understand why. Game does seem to be running MOSTLY in 60fps but it's variable so you do see it off that mark sometimes. Still, pretty fun game so far coming from somebody who doesn't really have interest in RTS.

Out for delivery at 7AM, delivered at 4:20PM. Mental reminder: Do not wait all day for UPS, they are /always/ late.

Finally time to sacrifice :)

ohhh need some advice gaf, both Gungir, and Growlanser wayfarer of time are on sale for $15 a piece. I was interested in Gungnir because of the assumed norse mythology ties, but has anyone here played either game?

cross posting:

Sony apparently emailed Soul Sacrifice DLC codes to a lot of people.
If anyone doesn't want theirs, may I have it? :)

EDIT: That PSP release is crazy. haha

gungnir is ok, not the best srpg but decent. I personally found it a bit hard but maybe it's because I was trying to be perfect in every level. which is the reason I didn't get to far in the game. but at least it's easy enough to understand when coming back to it (unlike knights in the nightmare) I think jeanne d'arc is better but maybe it's because it's easier than gungnir.

Does the God of War Origins Collection have remote play with Vita? I know some God of War thing does but if it's that, then I'd be dumb not to get that for $10 instead of each PSP game being $8 for a total of $16.

Cool thanks for the heads up, any thoughts on Growlanser?

Gotta be honest this sale really made my buying choices difficult to make. I have about $65 to blow in credit, and theres quite abit id like to pick up.

So far im considering

Soul Sacrifice
Sonic Racing
Growlanser
Gungnir
Sly 4
Gow COO, and GOS
The MGSHD collection ( I have it Physical, but at that price I would not mind digital)
And still considering DOA 5+ especially since the getaway pack is only for a limited time.
