Nintendo Direct during E3: How will it go?

I'm hoping for one a week leading up to E3, each focusing on a couple of games.

We're starved for Wii U software and Wii U news. Anything would be great and the sooner the better. If demos or titles go live for owners after the directs that'd be a fantastic bonus too.

Not really expecting any unannounced Wii u games. 1st party devs have to be stretched pretty thin and Iwata admitted there's very little coming on the third party front.

According to January's Nintendo Direct video, there's still some unannounced Wii U titles planned for a late 2013 release. Also, Iwata mentioned in February that Nintendo would be involved with more collaborative projects like Fire Emblem X Shin Megami, but didn't say if it would be for 2013.

Whatever it is, I imagine its gonna be awesome. Last year's post E3 Nintendo Direct was better than Nintendo's press conference so I can only imagine what they will show when they aren't holding back.

Yeah and Pikmin is a launch window game.

Could be the lamest Nintendo E3 showing ever. But who knows.
It also could be one of the best. We'll see how this bold change fares for them.

I'm expecting footage of what we already know is coming, plus 2 or, even better, 3 new retail games for each platform including Retro's project but not counting Smash 4. I also hope they reduce the Wii U's price, but they seem adamant on not doing so, for whatever reason.

Why do people say this all the time? It was confirmed it wasn't launch window looooong ago.

Pikmin 3 was originally planned to be a launch title for the Wii U, but this was later changed to "launch window". In December of 2012, Pikmin was announced to have been delayed again, this time until Q2 of 2013.

I expect the first one to be for 3DS.

A couple days later, a big one where they focus on all their games for the fall/winter. After this, individual directs will be uploaded for each of their big games that showcase the demo that will be playable to those at the show along with developer interviews.

Third would be a third party direct with teasers and reveals for Q1/Q2 2014 games.

I am hoping for surprise eshop demo announcements for 2 or so games. Most likely Pikmin and some other August/September release.

What i am glad we wont be getting is awkward stage transitions, down times, messed up delivery, bugged demos, etc that plagues every conference.

Also, i hope they bring montages back. Sony seems to be the only one doing them anymore!

I'm expecting them to announce downloadable trailers 'available now' in the eShop for Smash Bros. and whatever else they announce.

Sure would be nice/intelligent for them to work out a deal to televise the bigger ones. I always gathered round the TV with my gamer friends to watch these conferences, and gathering round the laptop won't be the same.

One will be at 12:30 pm est on June 10 and one will be later that night at 9 pm

oh Nintendo, dat sneak attack, do it Iwata

i think it will be separate , one for 3DS and one for Wii u and maybe 1 for only eshop and vc.

There was basically no point in having the 3DS conference last year, because nearly every single game they talked about in it, had already been mentioned in the earlier conference.

Sure, they talked about them longer, but did they actually show anything really new?

I they said something about focusing on Wii U at E3. If so they will get all the 3DS stuff out earlier and have a big direct for Wii U. The Wii U needs most of their focus now anyway.

I predict a long session for the (by then) recently released Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Four people will do a demo of the multiplayer features of the game. It will be long and boring and will contain some poorly acted enthusiasm.

Incompetent and had no third party support is more like it.

I disagree somewhat. The issue was that they kept to their policy of basically only showing end of year/launch window stuff instead of teasing/showing off far out stuff that the other two always do. They had third party support for launch, but again did weird stuff like not reveal all the activision stuff until september. I just didnt understand it.

Directs have helped break that cycle thank god, by spacing shit out.

This Nintendo Direct strategy isn't smart IMO.

Perhaps a straightforward E3 conference isn't the answer, but this just seems like they are spacing out their news peace meal with no real impact.

How so? The same news will be reported on everywhere regardless of how it is initially presented. Not stuffing everything into an hour or an hour and a half tops means they can show more with less resources and attempt to dominate the news cycles through the show and before it. This just benefits everyone who would be watching from home. Meanwhile, the people who would actually be sitting in the theater get shuffled off to play the games instead.

Forum or in the building/theater impact and hype levels for games that dont come out until month and months after E3 dont usually translate into something meaningful in the real world. How Nintendo follow it up with previews and marketing will. The games will still get covered.

Unless there planning to open the floodgates with a shitton of games like they did for the n64 I think it's going to go very badly. I'm very concerned right now that we won't see the new mainline Mario and whatever retro is working. I hope they don't think that another Mario kart and a smash bros trailer will be enough to convince people to get a wiiu

I bet that's the bomb they drop in an attempt to steal away attention from the other systems.

#1: Announcing a title that was already announced won't steal the thunder away from anyone.

#2: Nothing Nintendo will announce gamewise is likely to draw the spotlight away from E3, that's the whole point of doing ND's before E3. Capture the press when they don't have anything else, and everyone else is hoping for early leaks elsewhere.

I'm optimistic.

I'm not going to build a big list or anything, but I hope that we'll be getting at least three directs during E3 week. What would be even better than that would be two directs and then a "surprise" direct on friday with all new unannounced stuff.

Regardless, I think that it's going to take more than the announced titles to revatalize the WiiU, but what's coming seems to be a pretty good start. I want Nintendo to turn this thing around.

Once the E3 show floor is opened up, it doesn't make too much sense to have a direct since most of the titles will already be on the floor and being previewed by press. Leading up to E3 makes more sense, snatch the attention before the new consoles are fully shown and Nintendo gets drowned out. Then if they have games to show that didn't get a demo in time for E3, do it as an after E3 ND for that extra bit of show stealing at the end.

I think we'll see those Directs in May. Why? Well it lets Nintendo to announce stuff when other news fronts are quiet. Between now and the release of Durango (21st) should be pretty quiet. Will it deliver? Of course it will. At least to an extent. I think that if you like Nintendo games you will like what they'll show. With one or two very good surprises.

I was thinking about how many Directs should they sent. One way could be showing all of their lineup in one Direct and then delve into those invidual games in separate Directs.

Hopefully one with a sole focus on Wii U and only Wii U.

All the new stuff should be focused around Wii U so that should do the trick. We pretty much know what the rest of year will be like for 3DS. With that it's more about promoting those games even further and that should be secondary to showing new stuff (Wii U games)

Yea, we know what the 3DS is getting this year. Lots of momentum behind it already. Nintendo needs to show stuff that makes the Wii U a must have for people, no more dicking around.

They'll announce some cool stuff that, while cool, will still inevitably be trumped by what we see at Sony and MS' pressers unless either of the two massively fumbles the ball which (lets keep it real) isn't happening.

Nice wish list.

It is as much third party as Bayonetta 2 is. Set in motion by Nintendo, developed (partly) by a 3rd party.

Bayonetta 2 definitely isn't. The license is still Sega's, but the game is being funded and published by Nintendo. That's pretty first-party.

Now I'm aware how packed Monday is (EA, Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft all have conferences on the exact same day), I think Nintendo should do their Direct on Sunday. This makes sense because the Nintendo media event is on Tuesday.

Pre-E3:
- 3DS E3 Direct, focusing purely on the announced titles, release dates and a number of potentially new titles.
- Wii U E3 Direct, the big one.
- Both of the above or something else potentially outlining a "bringing the experience home" deal.

During E3:
- Specialist Directs like the Flipnote Direct, focusing on games announced during the previous two Directs. Stuff like Wii Fit U can be put here along with further insight on new games people are looking forward to, but also new things like Developer visits/look at the sudio making the games, Live Iwata Asks about the new games and more.

That's my guess at least.

He will be satisfied:

I think they will show things that are relevant to my interests and that I will leave them somewhere between content and jizzing if the last Directs are anything to go by.

I'm less hyped for that than I am an E3 stage show, but that's probably a good thing. There's less filler on a Nintendo Direct for me.
