Nintendo Direct during E3: How will it go?

He will be satisfied:

lol that his senior pic or something?

And who is that?

Pre-E3:
- 3DS E3 Direct, focusing purely on the announced titles, release dates and a number of potentially new titles.
- Wii U E3 Direct, the big one.
- Both of the above or something else potentially outlining a "bringing the experience home" deal.

During E3:
- Specialist Directs like the Flipnote Direct, focusing on games announced during the previous two Directs. Stuff like Wii Fit U can be put here along with further insight on new games people are looking forward to, but also new things like Developer visits/look at the sudio making the games, Live Iwata Asks about the new games and more.

That's my guess at least.

Would make the most sense. 2 directs dedicated to show games, then mini directs during E3 to highlight single games to explain gameplay more in depth.

Now that I think about it, ND should become an interactive experience. Not just video demonstrations, but interactive demos with micro gameplay examples panorama views, puzzle rooms, jumping challenges, character demo (pre loading the ND a day before, then downloading the key to access them at the moment it starts)

Could also work with cloud for those that have a good enough connection.

The best option in my opinion would be one Direct per week starting next week, each Direct with Wii U and 3DS stuff, 1st party and 3rd party. Each episode will feature one banner game (two if they have enough new games to announce), starting with titles we already know about, as well as new updates on already announced games and some smaller announcements.

Giving what we know it sounds like multiple 5-15 minutes ND.

I think about a first introduction one with the global shema of things in a couple weeks, containing words like "Mario, Wii U, please understand, apologies, and Pikmin3";
After that, each 3~8 days:
A Mario one;
A Zelda one;
A 3DS one;
And smallers others focusing on particular games: One for each of the two big Mario games (3D and Kart 8) for starting;
+ the usual videos with game creators;

And finally the last one on E3 last day and with that SmaBro trailer.

How will it go? Nintendo will release some online vids targeting Nintendo hardcore. Nintendo hardcore will love it. And except for some reporting of it in the speciality gamer press, no one else will notice. And that will be that.

As far as bombs being dropped that will derail e3 or revive the WiiU, won't happen. The only things that will revive the Wii U will be a bottom line destroying price cut + massive media blitz run by a competent marketing org untethered from NoJ's control freakery + the release of actual must have games.

Believe.

Sakamoto_ Metroid 5 2.5D Scariest and lonely metroid game ever.
Retro2_ Donkey kong country 5
Retro1_ New adeventure Ip
Miyamoto team_ New Ip

That would all be pretty nice huh. Wii Sports Ultra and Mario Kart ain't gonna do much against the competition though. Retro's game has to be big and beautiful and online and ready for holidays to stand a chance.

Personally, announcements of WiiU versions of COD:ghost and GTAV port would be heavenly for me.

PS4 & Durango won't do that well at launch, if only because the potential market will be split between the two systems. There's also the fact that the majority of gamers don't buy systems at launch and these systems still can be fucked up in a way that kills a lot of hype. While they will almost certainly not have the teething problems the Wii U had (or lets hope not), they will not be immune from the realities of a launch.

And except for some reporting of it in the speciality gamer press

If by some you mean every major gaming site tripping over themselves to report the information, then I agree.

I think the Nintendo directs are going to go better than any of the conferences ever do. The Wii U direct a year ago was the best thing they'd shown at E3 for a while outside of the 3DS launch.

I bet that's the bomb they drop in an attempt to steal away attention from the other systems.

If the rumors about the next Xbox are true about Microsoft being behind schedule are right ... than a good Smash direct (and by good I mean Megaman/Ryu included) can totaly steal a GOOD amount of thunder from the console reveal

More Marios than an Italian phone book and still no sequel to Disaster Day of Crisis I'm guessing is how it'll go. Lameness.

One each for the major announcements (now 3D Mario, Smash, Mario Kart, Retro game, major 3rd party game etc), and another 2 covering the smaller announcements for 3DS and Wii U.

I don't like the change in format.

There are loads of Nintendo Directs and they're each surrounded by so much information. Would be much more helpful for a consumer to see everything rounded up in a cohesive 90 minute conference, rather than having to pore through various news articles from various days and subjects.

They'll get less coverage than the traditional events, because of the segmentation - and when Nintendo are trying to inspire sales for their new console, the last thing they want is for their news to be further buried by the impending PS4/Durango events which will get out a lot of news on a larger stage.

I dunno, just my opinion but I think it's counter-productive. I follow video game news, but know very little about Nintendo Direct, presumably for the reasons I stated above.

I wish that Moderators would ban Please Understand meme, since it gotten old very fast.

Anyway, I still have a small amount of faith in Nintendo and I hope that they would pull it off with whatever they can. Make me a believer again please.

Alright dude. Now you blew it

I bet that's the bomb they drop in an attempt to steal away attention from the other systems.

I can see this happening. Day or two before MS conference. Smash 4 footage with big reveals.

Then they announce new Zelda/Mario during other conferences.

Then RETRO's project slightly after.

I predict they will show the next Mario 3D platformer and it will be better than every other game shown at E3. Not so much a prediction more of a formality.

I just hope they date 1 big E3 Nintendo Direct well in advance...so it's hard to miss.

Other than that I'd love a bunch of in depth Directs as follow ups in the E3 week.

Maybe a Platinum Games Direct (for wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2..and anything else), a Zelda Direct, a Mario Direct, a Smash Bros Direct..maybe a Direct exclusively for Indie games.

There's too much information for a single event/ conference, the four to be revealed games we already know about (3D Mario, Mario Kart, WWHD and Smash) would already cannibalize each other - and easily bury lower profile games and other announcements. Splitting it up makes sense.

More Marios than an Italian phone book and still no sequel to Disaster Day of Crisis I'm guessing is how it'll go. Lameness.
I believe the creative minds behind Disaster left Monolith some time ago.

I'm still expecting some kind of E3 replacement type of video, supported by another Nintendo All Access @E3 thingy. They'll announce it a few weeks before E3 starts.

While the press and retailers meet in the Nokia Theater, I expect Nintendo to inform everyone at home at the same time. They'll have Iwata or Reggie presenting it, explaining why they are taking a different approach this year and that they've chosen for a more "Direct" presentation.

So we'll get a Wii U focussed presentation with all the important announcements, a smaller one for 3DS (I don't expect them to change up their bi-monthly Direct schedule) and a lot of smaller non-Direct videos with info of all the games playable at E3.

They'll announce the games some time before E3 actually starts. Then the press will have a hands-on look at the games. It will be like E3 announcements-wise, it is just not a live conference or a big stage.

Yeah, it's fucking lame.

I don't think it was ever funny to be honest.

It'll go just like you expect from a Nintendo E3, announcements of a new Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Brothers and the Zelda remake. along with mini game announcements.

No new IP or surprises to get people to pay attention to Nintendo.

yup...no mainstream penetration.

Even though I was not talking about that claim you made, which remains to be seen, I will say that mainstream press at E3 last year didn't help Wii U.

It'll go just like you expect from a Nintendo E3, announcements of a new Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Brothers and the Zelda remake. along with mini game announcements.

No new IP or surprises to get people to pay attention to Nintendo.

People weren't excited by stuff like Remember Me, Fossil Hunters and so on, Knack, Teraway, Puppeteer all had middling reactions and TW101 was only cared about at first because it was 'a waste of Kamiya's talent'. New IP is great in theory, but decisive in practise.

They will have at least one before the meetings on Tuesday to show off the new footage and details (3D Mario, MK, etc.) for anything that will be on the floor.

They could separate announcements for things not on the floor like Retro's game and Smash (assuming it won't be playable).

It will be interesting to see if:
- They preempt the Monday press conferences
- They have subsequent announcements throughout the week (post Tuesday)

And of course, they will have more in-depth videos on a title by title basis.
