I can't see sony going above 449 at their least expensive SKU. I always expected 399/499 or 399/449. Probably at a loss.

Don't forget to factor in the fact that subs can be bought for $40 or less, thus making the non subsidized console even more cheaper.

Saying that, the one aspect we're not factoring in is that the subsidized console comes with a two year warranty, so maybe it does work out to be better deal...

$10 is the regular monthly fee. That's where the price is coming from. I didn't realize the contract price is $15, though. That's TERRIBLE.

That makes so much more sense mathematically. Why would they care about making $40 over 2 years? They wouldn't make this kind of offer unless it was highly profitable.

And people who suck at math (ie: most of the xbox consumer base) will happily "save $200" on the system.
