By the way, I did screw up one thing: The $299 version of Xbox v.Next will come with a $15/mo XBLG subscription, not $10. Sorry about that.

Price. Microsoft will initially offer two pricing models for the console, offering a standalone version for $499 and then a $299 version that requires a two-year Xbox LIVE Gold commitment at an expected price of $10 per month.

This will likely be tremendously successful against a $500 machine (assuming that's PS4's price). No one would do this against a $400 machine.

That makes a lot more sense since otherwise you would get two years of live for $40, whereas this means you're paying $60 more than you would otherwise.

That matches the current subsidized Xbox 360 plan. Right now it is $99 out the door and $15 a month for 2 years. Don't interpret this as a change in Xbox Live pricing.

180 bucks a year. I am assuming a 2 year contract which means you're paying 659 for the system. Guess we have nothing to compare it to since we don't know the price of the system but I do know companies always make money off these deals. At this point I think the system will sell for $499.

Even against a $400 machine it's incredibly competitive.

Lets hope those who go for this deal at least have the common sense to work out what the finale amount adds up to.

Vs $500 + 2 yrs of live 2x$60= $620 vs $660(2 yr warranty likely)

Except, as every xbox user loves to point out, when you you ever pay full price for XBL.

Exactly. That sounded too low at the time. They are doing $15 monthly now, if you buy a 360 on contract, it makes sense they would do the same.

Ouch. If this turns out to be true, I'm out. $15/m is a very steep monthly fee for the product more than likely. $10/m was already bad compared to PSN.

I wonder if there is any chance Microsoft is looking to profit on day one. And how much the new kinect costs to include. I refuse to believe 499 is what we're looking at for next-gen consoles. I can't see sony going above 449 at their least expensive SKU. I always expected 399/499 or 399/449. Probably at a loss.

If they do launch with that plan, and Sony has nothing similar, I predict much slower uptake for PS4 in NA as long as they have no counter offer. Not a bold prediction, certainly.

when you are spending 299 already does this actually appeal to some one? It doesnt to me... live is about 50 bucks a year and so that would mean 130 bucks a year in cost... so 560 bucks total?

I guess if the core machine is 500 thats not too bad... not good bad but not as bad as i thought.

Not really.

Xbox 720 Subsidized: $299 + $15 * 24 = $659
Xbox 720 Unsubsidized: $499 + $60 * 2 = $620

It's a terrible deal.

Doesn't sound terrible, you're talking about 40 bucks. That ain't shit. Keep in mind consumers in general don't think about how much they pay in the end.

Fuck that is some harsh Live pricing.

But then, I guess even having the perception of a sub 300 dollar next gen machine when their competition are looking at $399 as the minimum cost that's probably ready made marketing gold dust for MS.

Not really.

Xbox 720 Subsidized: $299 + $15 * 24 = $659
Xbox 720 Unsubsidized: $499 + $60 * 2 = $620

It's a terrible deal.

Don't forget to factor in the fact that subs can be bought for $40 or less, thus making the non subsidized console even more cheaper.

Saying that, the one aspect we're not factoring in is that the subsidized console comes with a two year warranty, so maybe it does work out to be better deal...

People never see the final price. Especially if their paying monthly

The millions of people who pay the prices in catalogues. Tells me this will be very successful.

That makes so much more sense mathematically. Why would they care about making $40 over 2 years? They wouldn't make this kind of offer unless it was highly profitable.

And people who suck at math (ie: most of the xbox consumer base) will happily "save $200" on the system.

It'll be called the Xbox 720 because it'll cost you $720 to own the system for 28 months.
lol! your wallet will turn 720 degrees and walk away
