sell me on xbox live gold

It's one of the biggest ripoffs in gaming, don't waste your cash. Or at least make sure if you do get a subscription you get a really good deal on it.

not a parody of the sell me on ps+ tjread, but it did give me the idea for this thread. dnt really like cod, gears, halo or forza. one game series i do like which requires gold is the wwe games. although i 'guess' i cud always get those on ps3 despite not really liking the ps3 controller. i guess system wide party chat is a plus of having xblg? and the early access to demos over silver members i suppose, but im hard pressed to think of anything else. just wish i cud find enough about xblg to feel it was worth the money.

I can't in good faith recommend it. Cost is too high for what you're getting, when Playstation offers the same things for free.
I was a subscriber for 2~ or so years. If I could go back I wouldn't give them a cent.

What don't you like about the Ps3 controler?

Also, XBL is never worth the money. (former XBL member)

Maybe two years ago I could of sold you on it, but I just can't anymore. I have a whole year left on my sub too, but after that's over, I'm done. Unless I pick up the new Xbox and they totally change xbox live.

as an 360 owner and a customer, all I can say is the online with a couple of added perks (getting early access). Connectivity is better, but PS+ offers better deals, and I hate the Playstation console brand, but it's true.

Other than that, I'd say Xbox Live's true strong point is community, Party chats and things like that. It's stronger in the social aspect, but they don't let you rent free shit.

Do you want to play multiplayer on your 360, then get it. If not, don't. Its not so much a service as it is a necessity or hidden cost for the platform.

The problem I'm having now though, is if you have established friends on LIVE over the time you subscribe, it's a hard product to drop. It sure is a sticky product if you allow it to be.

controller feels too small and weightless, i feel like i have to hold it tighter so it doesnt get dropped or something, thus my hands ger cramped after a while. dont like l1 and r1 being aim and shoot on most games, as rt and lt have been imprinted on my muscle memory for those functions. dnt like how the l2, r2, ls, rs feel on it. ps3 itself i hate the slow menu system such as backing out of psn store has a couple of seconds delay where controller wont respond; and the long mandatory game patches, system/firmware updates and game installs. ps+/instant game collection and bluray features are great though.

Online multiplayer and online interactions. If you have a bunch of friends on XBL, its nice to join up and chat sometimes, play games etc. This is the main reason for the service, the rest is just extras. Apps and sales are just trying to sweeten the deal, but it doesn't change the fact that the deal is still pretty lousy.

I suggest you pay it one-time when you want it. No harm in trying, but it really isn't a great service. Especially if you don't have a lot of friends whom you regularly play online with.

This is real easy, do you have friends/family that you want to play online games with on XBox? If yes, buy Live. If not, don't.

easy, multiplayer gaming on PSN still isn't as good, and 1000 free PS+ games doesn't change that.

/said as a person who has both systems blah blah blah

You can befriend and party-chat with the 20 random strangers you will henceforth use as justification for staying subscribed.

I always read this reasoning in a local forum that I visit.

While it might have been truth for the first couple of years, right now, is there any truth or explanation to this? I've never noticed any difference.

All of my friends are on XBL, and if you look hard enough it's easy to find year cards for 20-30$.

Gold only "deals" I usually save 20-30$ easy a year anyways.

So I basically loan 20-30$ to microsoft a year to play with my friends online.

Not ideal but not as bad as most of gaf likes to make it seem.

Stopped paying for it a year after getting my PS3, when it was time to renew my gold membership. Microsoft are a bunch of cowboys for charging online play, and everyone shouldn't pay for it out of principle. Alas.

Been a paying member since the original Xbox.

My PS3 broke and I missed Netflix so I paid $35 for an Amazon deal. No more after this one is done.

It's not worth it. They take away features that are free everywhere else and hold them for ransom for Live Gold.

Why would Internet Explorer ever be behind a paywall?

If you don't know / get to know people who play on XBL, then the difference will be negligible, still tipped toward XBL imo, but PSN has gotten better than what it was. But if you're playing w/ friends across multiple games? There's a gap

seriously if you take advantage of the gold sales, you can easily cover the cost of gold by that alone.

plus I can order Pizza.

Alot of people trolling hard. Seriously PSN isn't as advanced as XBL. So I can understand wanting to be able to talk to your friends in party chat, sending invites to any game and sending voice/txt messages with ease. Maybe Next Gen Sony will get it right then if they are equal I could see Sony being a better advantage. The only real reason you need XBL is if you want to play games online. After that the rest is just more positives that PSN doesn't really have unified across the whole network.

It's a fucking waste of money.

Sold yet?

I was a subscriber for three years. Barely used it and anything they offer outside of games is either a joke or not available in my region.

sick of people trashing xbx gold, its a great service. ppl say they get free games from ps+, but i got a bunch of free games on xbx too such as

doritos crash course
happy wars
undertoe
yaris

plus if i didnt pay for gold, how am i supposed to get all the halo 4 achievements? AND i got $10 worth of discounts last year, so do the math

The third party multiplayer games are a million times better on xbox live in my honest opinion. Also, the community of CoD, All halo games, Forza, gears of war and other online tailored software are heavenly on live...And, more chances of microphone communication among fellow gamers are a guaranteed also if you're into that.

Ignore these assholes that claims that there isn't a benefit for live. If you don't wanna pay. Play on the inferior online community on the ps3. plain and simple.
