I'm just remembering about episode 9 being pushed back a week and dug through this thread to find the reason cause I couldn't remember and:

I think I read that the other day and dismissed it as a joke, and waited for someone to post the real reason but it didn't happen. Turns out it is the real reason. Wow, HBO, you couldn't have picked a different time slot? [very mild TV series spoilers]
Episode 9 is the most crucial episode of the season, just like the previous seasons really, and you delay it... -_-

It is because of Memorial Day.

The actual reason is that episode 9 would have fallen on Memorial Day. Blackwater was on memorial day and got super low ratings. It's not like they're bumping Game of Thrones just because they'd rather show the Liberace movie

Nah, probably would rise after people get back from Memorial day weekend.

It does suck though. Game of Thrones seasons always get so intense at the very end. Ned's beheading; Battle of Blackwater Bay. Gonna be a long wait until Episode 9.

Edit: Although now that I think about it, i guess every show can get pretty intense around the final two episodes... because that's what finales are for :p

WHY

Anything that has aired is fair game in this thread. This thread is about the television show. So we can talk about everything that happened up until the recent episode which ended with the Karstark beheading and the Tywin forcing his kids to marry.

Thread Rule: "Once something airs in the US on the East Coast, it's fair game. Feel free to discuss anything that has aired without using spoiler tags."

It's what I love about this thread. Instant discussion as soon as it airs, the walking dead thread was the same way.

Unless you meant this sarcastically as an inside joke, and if that is the case, consider me an idiot.

Myself, along with his co-workers, had raved about the previous episode. Pretty much all of us telling him shit gets real, and it's a really good episode, laying big framework for what we assume is awesome stuff to come.

He watched it was and all "hurr just seemed like any normal episode :/". No amount of explaining it would convince him. He refused to admit there was any significance or importance behind the murder of the two Lannister boys, the beheading of Karstark, and Robb's new objective to ally with Frey.

If none of the mods have read the books, who is then decided to moderate the book spoiler thread where all the juicy stuff going on?

Woah, the /tv/ thread has leaked screencaps of what seems to be basically the whole E06.

If none of the mods have read the books, who is then decided to moderate the book spoiler thread where all the juicy stuff going on?

I think Duckroll has read the books?

lol I can see that happening...

Yeah Stannis is boss.

What is this picture from? I don't remember that shot in the show.

Stannis is a great character. No one likes him because he is so unfriendly and serious, but he is obviously a skilled leader. He's also the true heir to the throne. He does everything right but still screws up somehow, I suppose a lot of people can relate to that. Plus he lives on an island within an ancient fortress, has a hot sorceress girlfriend, and a cool, nice friend with an awesome voice. What's not to love?

Sometimes I think the show is making Stannis out to be a bit of a nutbag arsehole, but I don't like feeling that way because I sympathise with his plight.

Sometimes I get the feeling he's just using whatever/whoever to get the throne. Like last week when he walks into his wife's room, takes a look at her candle alter and has a "oh no, not this shit again" look about him, like he doesn't really care about the god of light at all.

He looked horrified when his wife was speaking about Melisandre and the God of Light stuff.

I don't think he believes in it at all.

I get this too, but I think it's more regret of his investment maybe. The show struggles a bit to convey just how much time has passed in my opinion, and if you think about it, he probably spent a very, very long time in the company of Melisandre as they planned his attack on King's Landing. And despite buying into her Lord of Light shit, his attack didn't work. Cue burnings.

He's probably torn between regretting the Lord of Light path, and wondering if maybe he should have stuck closer to it, taking Melisandre along with the battle. He seems confused.

I wonder if Mel could have really prevented the Wildfire from burning Stannis' fleet like she said she could.

Would be interesting to have seen what would have happened if she was along for the ride.

Last episode really made it seem like he kinda goes back to normal because Melisandre wasn't around. Kinda visiting his past, although you could see why he went with the god of light path due to his shitty life (crazy wife, stillborn sons, something happened to the daughter as well). Still he felt the urge to visit his family (and even apologies to his wife).

I agree that he seemed quite shocked that the red woman already turned his wife as well. More so than him it seems.

He gets serious bonus points for fighting on the front lines, a great, no-bullshit leader. The assassination of his brother was a dick move though. Not that he killed him, but how he let him be killed.
Also now the burnings, doesn't sound like a just leader. Both was under the influence of Melisandre though, as I said, I really want to see his leadership w/o her (unless he gets awesome super powers by her).

Sure, but the potential for assholes dropping spoilers left and right is terrible for non-book readers. 4chan and YouTube's comments section are barred at Papa's Haus when it comes to TV show.

New episode tonight: The Climb

Tywin plans strategic unions for the Lannisters. Melisandre visits the Riverlands. Robb weighs a compromise to repair his alliance with House Frey. Roose Bolton decides what to do with Jaime Lannister. Jon, Ygritte and the Wildlings face a daunting climb.

How much till the episode airs?

Don't live in the US but wanna be here so that I can read the impressions.

Since I'm west coast, I get the east coast feed at 6 pm PST, so 9 EST for east coast.

Since you're not in the US, just keep track that in about 2 hours and 20 minutes, the episode will air.

Question for those with book knowledge, this is not a spoiler but it's still book-only detail:

So we've learned about the skill of "wog" ing, practiced by the Wildlings.

What was the publishing date of the book (no need for the book title) that introduced this concept?

I don't have book knowledge, but if we're going to go off the series, and assume GRRM had the intentions in mind, then A Game of Thrones hinted at the idea when Bran 'dreams' of embodying his dire wolf after his fall. And that was published in 1996.

Just answering his date question:

It is alluded to but not fleshed out in the first book. It is elaborated upon more in the second and third book. So date wise that would be August 6th, 1996 for the first book and November 16th, 1998 for the second one.

The term was first mentioned in 3rd book if I recall, which was 2000. But like EatChildren said it could of been planned from the very first.

Great, thanks for the replies.

I was curious because it reminded me a lot of Granny Weatherwax's "borrowing" skill, and that was written a decade beforehand.

Don't look up ANYTHING in google. With this series, it is practically a guarantee that you will get spoiled. No matter how innocuous it might seem.

Just ask here to be safe.

Yep, don't even look things up on youtube. The trolls online are linking related videos that have spoilers in the titles.

That's why I was asking here, it's safe.

Damn, that means someone who wasn't even born when the first book was released would now be a senior in high school or something.

Another reason I won't read the books. I can barely tolerate the season breaks in between the show. I can't imagine waiting 17+ years to finish a book series.

I usually just browse around on that no spoilers wiki, but for some reason, I just highlighted the word and searched with my right click menu. :\

I never knew this. I'd go insane if I had to wait that much and probably even more for the story to end.
And now I feel bad for all the book readers that have been waiting so long for Martin to finish his books. All those comments about him being lazy now make sense to me.

I would bang a hot farmer!

What about when all of the books are out and the series is over?

On the plus side, Google's image search can lead to some unexpected Jon Snow-Ygritte kinkiness.

Yeah, there's a good example of a spoiler; if this had been said last week, it would have spoiled Jon and Ygritte getting together. Even casual browsing (and commenting) spoils stuff.
