I wouldn't call myself hyped, but I'm definitely interested in seeing the new Xbox. Won't be following along on GAF though. This place becomes unbearable every time MS is doing a conference. So much negativity and trolling.

It could be something like Dan from Turn 10 being the face of PGR5 while someone else making the game (like what they did with Forza Horizon).
Oh god I hope not. We need someone from the UK showing off PGR. Not some brash American who doesn't understand the concepts of subtlety and uniform game design aesthetics*.

*Only partially kidding. I think someone from either Rare or Lucid (someone other than Dan, basically) needs to show it off.

Would Dan wearing a monocle prove better?

So far, from what I gather, we can most dependably expect Ryse, Alan Wake 2, a new title from Rare and/or PGR5 in the initial showcase or at E3. Everything else is kind-of flimsy and not as well supported by rumours (I.e. Forza, zombie game). Am I missing anything?

It'll probably come to PC as well(though it could possibly be a late port).

Not a big PC gamer. I got back in thanks to Windows 8, but its more a "pick it up later during a Steam sale" kinda thing.

Alan Wake 2
Comfy couch
New xbox
Annual leave booked
Slap me silly and call me Susan

I would be surprised if Alan Wake 2 was a launch window title given the original's sales numbers when the 360 had a huge user base. It seems like a game that would be better suited mid generation for them.

I seriously don't think you know how this stuff works.

Launch window is THE time for:

- 3rd party exclusives
- New IPs
- Retrying IPs that were well received but sold average/poorly

The userbases are small, but they're starved for good games. Attach rates are usually very high.

If install base and past game sales mattered, Sony wouldn't be leading with inFamous and Killzone. Both games' last iterations were sales disappointments compared to previous iterations. Launch is a time when the hardcore fans are buying consoles, and I'm sure Sony and Microsoft will bet that those folks are just the right people to market games like inFamous and Alan Wake too. None of them are mass market successes by any means, so you release them as an incentive to get the core to move from the previous hardware to the new one.

Apples and oranges. Alan Wake also had an extremely long development cycle. Both Sony and Microsoft have issues with software. I think Crackdown and Alan Wake are wonderful games and I wish the 360 had more of those titles, but the user base didn't seem to care.

Didn't Crackdown sell nearly 2m? That's pretty great for a brand new IP. Alan Wake was simply unlucky, it came out the same day as RDR and had virtually no advertising. A sequel at the launch or launch window of trhe Durango would get a lot more attention.

Not to mention the sequel was made in less then 6 months and still sold over 1m.

I just increased brightness and notices a lot of artifacts and especially that the right side has some kind of "lightmap" (I don't know the proper word).
So I also sharpened these artifacts:

I also like all the small symbols on the left side:

I wonder how they went into the image.

This misses the point somewhat. It still sold well, regardless of what it was bundled with. If the sales were primarily driven by just the beta, the sequel would have sold a lot more poorly than it did. Both passed 1m. I think the first was close to 2m with the sequel close to 1.5m. Maybe someone can post more accurate numbers?

Indeed. CD is a great IP and one that deserves to be nurtured, I only hope that MS are thinking of bringing it back next generation. They'd be stupid not to in my opinion.

.

I still agree with you, I loved Crackdown. I just believe that was reason why it sold the number it did. I think if it wasn't for that beta invite, It probably would've sold as much as the second one.

If Microsoft have to bring back a franchise for next X-Box. They NEED 1 vs 100. That had no right to be as fun as it was and it was a perfect use of the Gold service. And bring in some other game shows too.

Everyone loved it, no idea why they stopped.

They should make a game night line up with 1v100 and more.

I'm not sure about that. Kameo and Amped 3 also preformed poorly.

That looks like macroblocks from the jpeg compression.

I think the only somewhat reliable Crackdown 2 figure we've ever gotten is 1.06 million. Still quite good for a game with mediocre reviews and a reputation of a disappointment. So it doesn't need an attached beta to sell well.

As good as it would be to see, I doubt we'll see Alan Wake 2 or anything new from Rare or Black Tusk etc until E3.
I think the reveal will show a couple of games, all big ticket ones to get the mainstream media on board.
So new COD was a nobrainer. Maybe Ryse if it looks awesome with new Kinect (assuming it still uses Kinect).

What can bring me over is if they show off a next-gen Xbox which implements Kinect with the core controller and games, while integrating IllumiRoom. If they have Alan Wake and a Rare platformer then it's set in stone. I'm really hoping for a fantastic "gimmick" like IllumiRoom.
