Three women have been found locked up in a basement in Cleveland. Some of the women been down there for up to ten years.

CLEVELAND - Missing Cleveland teenagers Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus have been found, police say.

Cleveland police dispatch told NewsChannel5 that officers at the scene of 2210 Seymour Avenue said Berry and DeJesus are there. The families of both are at MetroHealth Medical Center waiting for the women to arrive.

“I heard screaming… And I see this girl going nuts trying to get outside,” said Charles, a neighbor would found the women. “I go on the porch and she said ‘Help me get out. I’ve been here a long time.’ I figure it was domestic violence dispute. ”
“She comes out with a little girl and says ‘Call 911, my name is Amanda Berry’… When she told me, it didn’t register.”

Berry was last seen in 2003 when she was called her sister to say she was getting a ride home from work at the Burger King on West 110th Street and Lorain Avenue. She was set to turn 17 the day after her disappearance.

On April 2, 2004, 14-year-old DeJesus went missing while walking home from Wilbur Wright Middle School. She was last seen around West 105 Street and Lorain Avenue.
Her mother, Nancy Ruiz, said she believed DeJesus was sold into human trafficking.
“I always said it from the beginning; she was sold to the highest bidder,” Ruiz said in April 2012.

Last summer, there was a break in Berry case that turned out to be an inmate’s hoax. Robert Wolford, 26, told authorities that Berry’s body was in a vacant lot in Cleveland. Police searched at West 30th Street and Wade Avenue in July with backhoes, but nothing was found.

Wolford was sentenced to four and half years in prison after pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice, making a false report and making a false alarm.

Both of the teens kidnappings have been a big story in Cleveland for years. There was talk of human trafficking, but most assumed both were dead.

Update

One neighbor says a naked woman was seen crawling on her hands and knees in the backyard of the house a few years ago. Another neighbor says he heard pounding on the doors and noticed plastic bags over the windows.

Police showed up at the house both times, the neighbors say, but never went inside.

Now, after three women who vanished separately about a decade ago were rescued from the peeling, rundown house Monday in a discovery that exhilarated and astonished the city, Cleveland police are facing questions about their handling of the case and are conducting an internal review to see if they overlooked anything.Police Chief Michael McGrath said Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight had apparently been held captive in the house since their teens or early 20s.

Authorities arrested three brothers, ages 50 to 54. One of them, former school bus driver Ariel Castro, owned the home, situated in a poor neighborhood dotted with boarded-up houses. No immediate charges were filed.

The break in the case came when the 27-year-old Berry kicked out the bottom of a locked screen door at the home and used a neighbor's telephone to call 911. Choking back tears, she breathlessly told the dispatcher: "Help me. I'm Amanda Berry. I've been kidnapped and I've been missing for 10 years and I'm, I'm here, I'm free now."

Ariel Castro charged with kidnapping, rape; no charges for 2 brothers

The Cleveland city prosecutor charged the man, Ariel Castro, with four counts of kidnapping — one for each of the three women and one for a baby that was born to Berry six years ago. Castro was also charged with three counts of rape for each of the adult women.

But authorities filed no charges against two of Castro’s brothers who were arrested Monday night, after Berry escaped the house with the help of a neighbor. Authorities said they had no evidence that the two brothers, Pedro and Onil Castro, were involved.

The three captives were allowed only in the backyard when they were let outdoors at all, and were forced to wear wigs and sunglasses when they left the house, the report said.
The escape came when Castro left a “big inside door” unlocked, the report said. It said Berry had to break through a locked storm door, and that she was afraid to break it open because she worried that Castro was testing her. It said Berry was “unsure of the details” of getting out and dialing 911.

“From what we know, their only opportunity to escape was the other day when Amanda escaped,” said Ed Tomba, the deputy Cleveland police chief.
Police Chief Michael McGrath told NBC News earlier Wednesday that the women had been bound with chains and ropes.

That's fucking horrifying, have police gotten any leads as to who kidnapped the girls since they've been found? The thought of the person who did this still being on the loose makes me extremely uncomfortable.

Good news to a sad story.

I couldn't even imagine being one of those women. Ten horrible years of their lives wasted on some freak. I hope they can make a recovery and live a happy life.

Word came in that the guy who apparently did this was out getting food when the women got away, so police were waiting for him and he's in police custody.

Wow, so one guy had all of them in his basement? I have seen crap like this in movies and TV shows and I know of course it happens in real life because of a few cases every few years but it is still so hard to comprehend this shit is actually happening somewhere out there. Crazy.

I'd inflict quadriplegia upon the captor/s and very slowly drain their lives.

10 years of suffering for these poor girls. A true shame about Amanda's mother.

Can't even imagine what kind of nightmare that must have been. Hopefully this guy gets locked up for life, fucking disgusting.

fucking sick, hope the asshole gets what he deserves. Being raped for and held captive for years is just a evil act.

Jesus fucking Christ. I can't even imagine how this must've affected them mentally. I hope they get all the help they need, and this fuck rots in prison for the rest of his life.

Human traffickers and kidnappers of children and young people should be dealt in ways that'd act as deterrent.

I agree (though I think I disagree about what constitutes a deterrent). I'd rather not see this topic become a place where people feel compelled express their most gruesome revenge fantasies, though.

This is probably just the tip of the iceberg. I bet he has computer files detailing girls he's bought and sold. What a sick fuck. Even worse is that his wife sat idly by as this went on in her house and said nothing.

Someone probably knew about him other than his wife. In the case of Jaycee the dude raped and kidnapped a woman prior and barely had any time served before they released him. How old is this dude? Fifties? I doubt he just started this shit up in '03.

That is a very racially integrated neighborhood. There is an abundance of every race in that crowd.

A bit confused at the details of her calling to her neighbor. She escaped from whatever confinement she was in, but screamed at someone while inside the guy's house instead of trying to smash a window with a chair or something? Doesn't seem to be a Stockholm Syndrome type thing since she was pleading to escape. Strange.

I can't even imagine the horrible physical and mental trauma they had to endure for 10 years. Just terrible.

Sickening. Kind of hope that it's like the Kampusch case where no one was raped but I guess that is unlikely

Well some of them hold jobs and even venture outside of the house but eventually want to leave once something else happens or they realize they're being confined. It's a very conflicting space to be in. These kinds of cases portray just how much self-preservation is a must and how the mind deals with torture and rape.

I'm a life long Clevelander and I thought for sure they were both dead. Every couple months one of their names would pop up in the news as their families pleaded for any information. The local channels have been on this nonstop for almost 2 hours.

The third victim was supposedly 20 when they went missing in 2000/2001 so that person is in their 30s now, hard to imagine.

The neighbor said she was trying to get out desperately. She saw the neighbor while trying to escape, of course she would ask for help

This is so horrifying to hear about, but I am glad the victims were found alive and that their families can see them once more. The guy who did this needs to be jailed for life.

This is beyond fucked up. Glad that they are alive, but you'd have to think it's going to be almost impossible for them to ever assimilate back into a "normal" life.
