Revised exclusives I think they will announce

May 21st
Call of Duty Ghosts (timed exclusive DLC)
Ryse
Forza 5
New IP (Rare)
Zombie shooter IP (???)

E3
Titan
Alan Wake 2
Fable MMO
New Kinect Game
Destiny (exclusive Halo themed content)

PS4 E3
New IP (Santa Monica)
New Move Game (Zindagi)
Battlefield 4 (timed exclusive DLC)
Last Guardian
Final Fantasy XV (also available on PS3)
People need to stop listing Forza 5. It's not happening. BADNED has denied it and that rumour was one of the few to actively be (partially) discredited. Forza 5 is not happening this year and won't happen for at least a year after Durango launch. It will be PGR5 if it's anything. There's a mountain of evidence and reports of PGR5 coming and one off mention of Forza.

Same here. I'm a real sucker for racing games. Man, if they come out with a new Project Gotham I'm sold!

Isn't that largely due to the original Xbox?

No.

Profitable in business sense was that its generating profit

Xbox was always meant to be negative and expected

Xbox 360 was supposed to be profitable from the start but then RROD happened, yields were low and they wrote off a billion to cover warranties.

So Microsoft receded further to ensure profitability. This meant if it wasn't AAA and a guaranteed hit, they weren't touching it. This really hurts late gen because of the lead time on projects.

That's why Rare disappeared, their midrange games disappeared, everything. Now we are going into a new gen and Microsoft will once again be aiming for profitability out of the gate... Barring a ridiculous turn of events, Durango should have far more first party software across the generation - look at how many releases they had for original Xbox. Even first years of 360 they had several 1st party titles by third party devs, but in the back half they announced... Um... Ryse and I think that's it (outside of gears sequels) - no risks

This is why you shouldn't look back to the last 2 gens for much clarity... They haven't been what I'd consider to be normal generations

RROD + US Crisis = Kinect + only AAA known IP games.

I don't think crisis had much effect... MS is still hugely profitable... It's more pressure from top down to get their shit in gear as they were pissing away money on taking too many risks and some really poor decisions.

Their overall strategy was rock solid but the execution was failing in many ways

Once they have a decent margin they'll start swarming... That's when MS becomes a scary company, when they have a lot of leverage

My very own revision of Microsoft's games I think they will announce:

May 21st - Third Parties to show the support
Call of Duty Ghosts (timed exclusive DLC)
MMO Shooter (Respawn timed content)
Zombie IP (Capcom timed exclusive)
Destiny (exclusive Halo themed content)
Sports/Madden/FIFA (EA some social exclusive online feature)
and maybe BF4 too..

E3 - 1st Party & Exclusives
Ryse (Crytek)
PGR5 (new Bizarre)
Alan Wake 2
New IP (Lions'Head)
Family Kinect Game
New IP (Rare)
New IP (Blask Tusk)

Why this segregation? Just 'cause on E3 third parties will be all around and is time to show some unique entertainment to grab people by their balls.

They are going to show Halo 5. It's too soon for most people but they'll probably tease it and the media will be all over it.

Unlikely, unless MS helped them with the engine. Remedy is pretty small, they need a lot of time to build a new engine and a full game on top of it.

They don't need to make a new engine, in fact they hired for the "next generation engine of Alan Wake" of some sorts a while ago, they can just iterate on what is there.
They have more time building the actual game now, which is kinda reflecting how Max Payne and May Payne 2 went for them.

This is one of my biggest fears, which is especially plausible considering 343 saying that they could move Halo to a 2 year cycle, which is another one of my biggest fears.

I think if Halo 5 isn't the simultaneous revolution and return to form that Halo 4 ambitioned to be, the series will begin a sharp decline, and other filler titles inbetween mainline ones will not help the state of the franchise.

The AW engine is pretty great, it just needs to be refined to run at 1080p natively and tweaked a little so there isn't as much slow-down.

American Nightmare, for me at least, showed how good the engine is. Absolutely no need for a brand new engine at this point.

My prediction:

Reveal is pitched as 'exclusive access to Xbox'
Don Mattrick takes us on a tour of the campus (where by some miracle everyone he needs to speak to is just a few feet away.
They will talk about games being the 'keystone' that xbox is founded on - their PR agency is savvy, this message will be there loud and clear.
They mention that a next generation experience is 'a fully connected, always-on' - they won't be specific
There will be one time game registration, but it will be tied to some sort of reward for registering new games, to make it palatable.
Games shown are COD, (I thinking respawn's game is for E3), RYSE, a family kinect thing and 'Rare racing game / PGR).
Want to believe: fully backwards compatible.
Lots of talk about new social and Xbox live features
Shows console, controller and kinect right from the start (it's a product launch... show the product).
Lots of talk about the world having changed and games systems needing to change too.
A least one incredibly awkward live kinect demo.
I'm not buying the spec change.

Halo tease of some sort...

EDIT: Now can we finally start hyping this...? Its going to be one of the last few big console reveals ever. :)

I still doubt there are going to make it for launch. Can't see it happening.

I'm predicting there will be at least one megaton at the conference, then many more at E3. I'm really hoping MS get those exclusives. The ones I'm most curious about are the veiled projects like Black Tusk, Epic, Rare and Lionhead.

We'll get a trailer right from the start showing the controller and console design. Believe.

Rare's game.

That's pretty dismissive.
A new Banjo or PD game would be megaton to me.
Ot something new, even better.

Definitely want to see 3D platformers make a comeback. As much as MS would probably argue that such games are aimed at casuals and should come later in the gen, I disagree. 3D platformers have a hardcore following, probably moreso than FPS games. So, new Banjo please! And none of that nuts and bolts nonsense this time. Or even better, a new IP.

I'm glad Knack is happening on PS4 btw, but the game does look a little bland. Especially compared to the likes of Mario, Banjo, Ratchet and J&D, even Kameo. I want tight platforming, variety, colour, charisma, exploring, collecting, secret areas, easter eggs and hopefully a few googly eyes.

How about an absolutely HUGE Banjo game built on a big open world section with lots of levels that branch off that... the game would have RPG-lite character upgrades (think new tomb raider style)

YAY! MS is back at Gamescom:

"Next chapter of Xbox gaming experiences"

New IP? Well new in its genre: Make a Killer Instinct open world HackNSlash and adventure game with rpg leveling up elements. Have it play like Soul Reaver and for muti player throw in online coop. Rare needs to hire me.

Yet someone on the other side of the fence looks at it and says 'this was the biggest halo launch ever in terms of number... what are we doing wrong?'

I think mortal combat did that didn't turn out that well.

Worked out great for Soulcalibur and Tekken, although I suppose it did work in Shaolin Monks.

Shaiolin Monks? I thought it sold decently? Or did they expect mega sales? Ofcourse the beatem up genre isnt exactly booming unless its God of War i guess. New gen, may as well start fresh but with a new coat of paint on an old franchise. They'd need to market it aggresively though, and with abit of GOW T&A wouldnt hurt either.

See, now you've made me lose interest. I just want a proper old-school linear 3D platformer! Grrr!

EDIT: Actually, I may have misread your post. I don't want an open-world Banjo game, but I don't mind an open-world style hub (like Super Mario Sunshine) with linear levels branching off that. That's fine.

Oh my god this is so cringe worthy. I hated how they had a bunch of people who totally didn't want to be there screaming and cheering over a game console. So fucking fake and awkward. Then again, it is MTV. Don't even get me started on the hyperbole throughout the whole thing.

I can't believe I was excited for this reveal back then.

EDIT: Holy shit @ that random "pro gamer" interrogating the Rare workers around the 16 minute mark. So fucking awkward.

Microsoft would probably play it safe and never make a Killer Instinct game as a GOW clone. :/ But Jesus it would be amazing if given the care and time it needed in development. Rare did well with Kameo, was pretty fun. I think now that Microsoft has got more 1st party set to go they can take more chances by establishing a brand that was once popular - Killer Instinct.

HMMMM...gamescom...

Really wanted to see E3 this year, but i can't, especially since it was pushed to june.
But Gamescom...that's just a couple hours flight from here.
And nextgen...

hmmmm...

That's it, i'm going !

What they intend to do with Rare is the question I want answered. They're sitting on a goldmine of great IPS. They have to do something with them eventually. If not just sell them.

I wouldn't know about that, they did make a Halo RTS, a Fable rail shooter and a Banjo sandbox toy set. In fact, I remember reading a Killer Instinct action-adventure game rumor/prediction a few years ago, I just don't think it's a good idea. People clamoring for the return of Killer Instinct want another fighting game (look what happened to Nuts & Bolts), and if you're going to bring it back in a another genre after such a long hiatus, why not just go with a new IP instead?
