Am I the only one who prefers PS+ discounts to the free games?
I'm not fond of relying on a subscription to enjoy things that I want to play whenever I like, especially when said subscription has screwed me over in the past... For example, I had to buy Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown
twice because of some PlayStation Plus-related interference, and customer support completely refused to acknowledge the problem. A lot of gamers this generation have been conditioned to play things once and then move on, so I wonder how widespread this issue actually is.
That brings me to another con: getting locked out of purchasing things simply because they're currently being offered for free is pretty stupid, too. I have to wait for my subscription to lapse in order to buy them? Really? And be forced to redownload all those 20gb games once I renew? Sometimes people just want digital versions of games, regardless of their price, so this is yet another thing to contend with.
I don't even touch the majority of free games we end up getting (usually because they're awful or I have no interest in them), so they barely function any differently from PS+ full game trials to me... I think free games are a great idea for people who like them, but,
for me, the service could stand to be catered a little more toward those who may not appreciate the way things are currently being handled. Whenever I know a PSN game is coming, I dread it launching free with PS+. I would love if there were two kinds of PS+: one that favored game discounts and one that favored free games. Honestly, though, there is no reason it has to be one or the other.
It's the same kind of Sony stupidity we have with backing up Vita saves right now. Heaven forbid you don't have a PS+ account and need to copy over your entire game file just to back up two measly megabytes worth of content.
