What a great fucking teaser. I love Cuarón, Clooney and anything el Chivo Lubezki works on, but good lord I can't stand Sandra Bollocks.

I liked the teaser, but I'm curious to see what direction the movie goes in. If it's just Bullock alone in space...

I'm not sure how impressive an excessively lengthy shot can be when you're dealing with something that's almost entirely cgi, not to mention their supposed "long" takes in CoM were stitched together during post. I mean, if you're gonna make a big deal out of the technical aspect of filming, Cuaron and Lubezki should back it up with some legit stuff.

What? Which long takes were stitched together in post? Surely not all of them. They would rehearse some of those scenes for days on end because they couldn't fuck it up.

He's referring to the final battle sequence. There are a few places where the camera goes to black as it changes lighting and (it was either confirmed or just believed) that they used this to edit different takes together. Still, each piece is like 3-5 min long and pretty damn seamless, so it's still impressive even if stitched imo.
The escape from the farm was three takes stitched together.
To be fair, I don't Cuaron is the one making a big deal about these long takes, real or not. It's all these other filmmakers, blogs and fanboys.
It could be cool and work well to create a great atmosphere, but it's certainly not as inherent as so many pretend. Otherwise Russian Ark would be the greatest movie ever, and not just an impressive production.

The opening explosion, the car sequence, and the aforementioned farm escape and battle sequence near the end are all pieced together from multiple takes. Both Cuaron and some of the effects guys have confirmed this in past interviews.

Are you sure about all of them? I could have sworn the opening explosion was legit. Anyway, doesn't matter. The point is that Cuaron knows how to direct an engaging, visceral sequence like few people do.

It felt like proper sic-fi. Slow and interesting.
Are you guys talking about Soderbergh's remake (with Clooney) or Tarkovsky's masterpiece original? Come to think of it I never saw Soderbergh's remake. But I can agree my favorite sci-fi is the cerebral kind - slow and thoughtful.

Some theorizing:
- So she's spinning away from the explosion. Clooney and Bullock can't be the only astronauts. The ISS usually has 6 people total, and if the shuttle's docked, maybe 12 people were up there. They have suit jetpacks that someone can use to fetch Bullock back.
- I think I spotted a space telescope/hubble there. Funny that it was so close to the ISS, although I suppose the Shuttle could have retrieved it and brought it there earlier.
- Not all of the ISS went kablooey in the trailer, as far as we could see. The ISS is composed of modules that can be individually sealed. Maybe some astronauts sealed theirs in time? And was the shuttle destroyed or just damaged/partially functional?
- There's usually a Russian Soyuz that serves as an escape pod docked to the ISS. Maybe that's another way out?

I like Clooney but tbh i'm not that excited by either of them being in this. I find it hard to see either of them as anything but themselves (despite Clooney being a really good actor).

I'm kinda afraid the ending will be either a crappy "Murica saves them in the end" ending or a "let's die together in space while opening our visors to kiss one final time" ending.
Hollywood destroyed all my expectations :/
