The highly regarded polling firm Public Policy Polling doesn’t usually ask survey respondents about pop music but, with the first round of results from their latest poll released May 9, it’s clear they’re onto something. They created politician-style favorability ratings for some of the biggest names in pop music, and the results were, at least in one case, stark: Justin Bieber was the only artist who tested unfavorably across party lines. His numbers were 23 unfavorable to 54 favorable among Democrats, 17-52 among Republicans and 18-56 among independents.

Other artists who tested unfavorably, not accounting for political affiliation, were Chris Brown, Lady Gaga, Jay-Z and Rihanna. On the other side, Taylor Swift, Adele, Beyonce and Justin Timberlake had high approval ratings. Timberlake also received a winning 34% of votes when respondents were asked who they would vote for for President. (At the same time, 31% of people said, when asked which of his endeavors they prefer, that Timberlake should just focus on playing golf.) Bieber got 8%; fortunately for 92% of Americans, he’s Canadian.

More than half the poll respondents had no idea who Skrillex is or what they should feel about whatever Skrillex is.

A few other intriguing tidbits :

75% of Americans have not been to “the club.”
Snoop Lion should return to being Snoop Dogg, say 56% of people.
67% of respondents think Rihanna and Chris Brown should not get back together.
While less than half of those polled had a favorable view of “today’s popular music,” most (77%) had a favorable view of classic music. There’s no word (yet) from Public Policy Polling on whether Yo Yo Ma should run for office.

PPP tested the favorability ratings of several of today’s biggest music stars: Taylor Swift (53-27), Adele (54-18), Beyonce (51-30), and Justin Timberlake (52-24) all received positive reviews from voters. Others didn’t fare as well – Chris Brown (13-57), Lady Gaga (29-50), Justin Bieber (20-54) were all rated unfavorably by 50% or more, and Jay-Z (25-44) and Rihanna (30-39) had netnegative favorability ratings as well. Veteran British rocker Morrissey (17-31 with 52% not sure) and dubstep pioneer Skrillex (11-35 with 54% not sure) were the least known of artists tested.

Bieber was the only artist who had a majority unfavorability rating across all party lines – a majority of Democrats (23-54), Republicans (17-52), and independents (18-56) all reported negative views of the singer.

When asked who they’d most like to see as President when given the choices of Adele, Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, or Rihanna, 34% chose Timberlake, with Adele (19%) and Beyonce (14%) also receiving double digits followed by Jay-Z (9%), Lady Gaga (9%), Bieber (8%), Chris Brown (5%) and Rihanna (2%).

Beysus wins.

Timberlake PresidenT? Please.

They should all just go away and in their replace should be blues. Some nice old blues, classic rock blues, modern blues, all of them. When will blues be popular again? I was told everything repeats itself. Why the hell isn't blues back!?

Agree with Bieber and Chris Brown.

My opinion of Jay Z leans more towards dislike, and Rihanna is okay. She is just oversatured and can fill an entire FM radio station rotation with just her songs and fivehead alone.

Gaf should do a poll on players who are hated. Derrick would have won.

We have horribly lowered our standards if Rihanna's cookie cutter dance music qualifies as "art" nowadays.

Tell me how Beyoncé stays beloved after all the controversies and conspiracies surrounding her

"fake pregnancy"
"lyp sync-gate"
"bleaches skin"
"plagiarism"
"bans photographers"
"Illuminati witch"

And people still love her. How does she do it. And she hasn't released new material in ages. Such a queen. *.*
