Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

Whatever that P game is it's going to be hella disappointing. Especially now that people are throwing all sorts of non-indie titles into the guessing game. Since it was something said by Shahid, the likelihood of him talking about something else than an indie game is extremely low.

Sega as in Sega in Japan or Sega global? Pretty sure that Sega will never localize any Vita game unless it has Sonic in it. That's how it's been so far.

Global, I think. It was in their corporate earnings presser, I think?

No. In fact, he talked about Mayhem game later on Twitter:

"And lots, lots more. I haven’t even mentioned Men’s Room Mayhem, which is riotous good fun on a Vita (and signed in <45s)"

Oh... and he said this: "Hey all you lovely people that added me on their PSN lists, thanks, that was amazing. If anyone is missing, feel free to add me: Muslim".

And: "And you are all gonna kick my ass now that I’m on your PSN, because I’m not that good at playing games. Better at signing them. Hehehe"

Shahid's PSN ID is "Muslim"? That's pretty cool.

So I just got a Vita a few days ago, and I'm loving it so far. I think the Near app is pretty cool, and it seems to work alright. It knows my location on my WiFi without registering with Skyhook like I've read. It also gets a lot of people because I'm in a pretty densely populated area.

I'm interested why I
-haven't received/seen any gifts out of 150ish people
-the "top games" always seem to be the game I last played, and the out and about charts never seem to be correct. For instance it will have 12 people playing 2 games I just played, then 8 people watching youtube and in wake up club. The numbers always match which is hard to believe.

I've googled a bit but haven't found much. Is this working as intended?

I wonder how many exploits Sony knows about and that's why they keep PSP games from being played on Vita. If they wanted to get rid of any fees they could just open up the games to be played on Vita without putting them on the Vita store. Just doesn't make sense to me and to be honest pisses me off. I don't care if people buy a system to play only new games, I know a lot of people that got a Vita to play the PSP and PS1 games that they owned digitally. Meh. I am hopeful for E3 though. Last year was pretty damn horrible, so it can't get any worse than that.

Someone should make an asynchronous multiplayer turn-based strategy game for Vita, which you can play with even 3G connection. It just hit me how multiplayer modes on handhelds are pretty much only playable at home, which is against the "play anywhere" nature of the platforms. At least I don't have access to WiFi outside my apartment.

Started playing Symphony of the Night (ps1 version) on the vita !
Wow it looks really good, I thought it would upscale a lot and look like shit but it actually looks great. Game is kicking my ass though as I've never played a castlevania before.
But man, felt awesome to start a game without any bullshit tutorial and extensive cutscene. This just puts you right in the middle of the action and says "fuck you, you're on your own". I don't even know how to freakin save, and I'm loving it!

Also, I wanted to download Dracula X Chronicles since it comes with SoTN and the other one...but for some reason I couldn't find it in the store (EU). Is it not available? I was almost sure that I read somewhere that it was available on psn...

It is not available in europe (unfortunately), but it is in usa iirc.

I've been a Vita owner since pre-launch and I still don't understand anything about Near stats either. While I was playing Project Diva f, Near was telling me it was "top in charts of people playing right now" as if that was even remotely possible unless I was located in Japan (no, I'm not).

I do see plenty of gifts though, not sure why you don't. I rarely see anything good though, the whole gift thing is pretty dumb.

Does Phantasy Star Online 2 for the Vita in the US count as one of the 5? Please?

If the Vita can make it to the point of a Soul Sacrifice 2, Gravity Rush 2, and another Bend game on top of all the other things in between, it is more than a resounding success in my eyes. It has already been worth it in my eyes.

I REALLY hope so. I'd KILL for that game on Vita in the West. Also I'm currently LOVING Soul Sacrifice, realllllly love this game. I really hope it gets a sequel. After I beat the story I think I'm gonna go back and platinum Gravity Rush, then I think I'm gonna finally beat Uncharted: GA. Yeah, I have OCD a bit, I have to play out my gaming :P

Nintendo's Streetpass is much better than anything Sony will make for the Vita in term of social apps. Streetpass is the main reason I take my 3DS with me while the Vita stays at home. For a console that sold itself as "the console that will be attached to every part of your life" thus the name Vita, the console does not do anything worthwhile with 3G it with Near.

Just picked up Graity Rush for $5 at best buy. Was on a clearance shelf end with the Mac version of RAGE and other games at the same price. Loved it when I had PSN+ but never finished it

I had some time and wanted to reach a broader audience with my article (especially as it's not some random sh*t article, or repost). Glad you liked it.

Congrats! I didn't know you wrote it. Look like a pretty good site, I hope you post more in english (I speak spanish, but that's too much for asking, hehe).

My wishlist for Vita at E3 2013 is... Gravity Rush 2, Persona 5 (lol), Demon's Souls 2, Rogue Galaxy 2. I know I dream small dreams. Anyway Ill be there and Ill try to take pictures for VITAgaf.

PS1 platformers recommendations would be appreciated! I have the first Crash game, love that. I bought Mickey's Wild Adventures, not really liking that though.

Rayman - my favorite 2d platformer as a kid, but I haven't replayed it recently to know if I'd still hold that belief.

Tomba!
Tomba 2!

Likewise I live in the hood & am pleased to see the number one game people have & are playing is Soul Sacrifice.

Interesting about Near. Hope they add more/better functionality in the future as it seems really cool. Pretty lame when the stats aren't accurate though.

I used to use it to track how far I walked from home to work (I live about 10 ish blocks from my job, kind of feel lucky that I barely use my car), and I thought it was pretty accurate. Thing is, I barely use devices like this so I have no idea how accurate it is in comparison to other stuff, I just thought it was really cool to see other people checking in nearby, encountering other players and such, and seeing gifts being left ..

I figured that's all there was to it right? Dunno why everyone is getting such a boner over hating it out of ignorance. Has anyone actually directly compared performance between Street Pass and NEAR?

The PSP version of Dracula X Chronicles contains the 60hz one.

Yeah I have this on my Vita, I absolutely love it. I also have the Genesis collection, although I really wish the emulation was a tiny bit better but if you're a Genesis fan - GET IT! Shame it's transfer only tho :\

I just bought Ghost of Sparta for $14.99. I feel like such an idiot missing the $7.49 price last week. I tried buying it on Tuesday when I got some extra money, but by the time I went on there they had JUST changed the price back to $14.99. :(

Reminds me of that episode of Everybody Hates Chris where he works for his dad for a number of weekends to save up and buy a leather jacket, only for the last one on sale to be sold when he walks up with the money..

I could never wrap my head around why he, having /just/ missed the sale, decided to put it on layaway. Maybe it's just me but I could never justify paying full-price for something because I missed a sale.

Shahid's excitement is contagious and helps to remove (some of) the doubts I have about the Vita's future.

Keep up the good work Shahid - I appreciate what you're trying to do!

I just finished MGS3 on my 3DS today and I thought it might be nice to have the HD version for my Vita. Of course the sale ended on Tuesday, so I know the feeling...

Ever since Shahid teased the Playstation Meeting (which ended up announcing nothing but remote play), I don't put much stock in his rumors, personally..but I will wait with eager ears for the actual announcements.

out of curiousity has anyone here played Dynasty Warriors next? I have been wanting some hack, and slash action for a couple days now, I liked how the demo played but im curious about the amount of content in the game. If its pretty barebones, or atleast as feature rich as someof the more recent console games.

It's a really good console-like experience graphically, and the core gameplay is still Dynasty Warriors, but it gets bogged down by a lot of forced touchscreen mini-games that can be a bother.

Seems like a lot of content too with the different modes and story, but I personally didn't play through it to the end so I can't comment with certainty.

(I usually just buy DW games for the waifus)

It's a pretty enormous game. I've had it since last spring and I'm not done with it. I don't play it a ton anymore but i've certainly poured many, many hours into it. Fun game. Actually the first DW game i've ever played.

Its got a lot of content but it gets repetitive really quick. For the type of game it is however, its fine though.

You are right. I don't think anyone cares about his opinion anyway...
