That was actually thuway since he blew the whistle.

For those that have short term memory:

Did I say you started it?

Performance differences aren't so clear cut. Specifically if Durango specs are aiming for 100% efficiency with it's GPU. Could be much worse, or it could get close to PS4 performance. On paper I still give the edge to Sony.

In about a year or so we will know for sure.
One of the things I find odd is the 100% GPU efficiency leak does not even talk about the CPU or go into depth about it. Maybe it's not finalized yet.

Maybe that's what the next "secret meeting" will cover. (If it hasn't already happened.)
However, some of VGleaks data is old. The documents did not mention "100% GPU efficiency".
Nah. According to the leaked slide (The Durango conference one with the "100% GPU efficiency", 1080p 2XMSAA should not be a problem on Durango.

Do you guys think MS will try some other strategy for japan?

Honestly if I were MS I wouldn't waste the amount of money that they did with 360. Not saying they should flat out ignore Japan, but don't make it a high priority thing. Focus on NA/EU and the smaller countries. South America should get more focus than Japan TBH.

Did I say you started it?

Well that was what it said in the slide. Don't get mad at me, get mad at MS for telling that to devs.

Don't shoot the messenger.

No, I think they'll focus a lot more on Europe.

Japan looks like a lost cause for MS in my opinion, at least for now. If the 360 didn't succeed with all the japanese exclusives they bought at the beginning of this gen, it's useless throwing money there.

They should focus on Europe with that money and try extending their foothold there, because it actually worked. Bring the same level of services you got from Live in the US. That would be a lot more useful in my opinion.

I was responding to this bit;
Other than the fact the entire concept is nonsensical okay. That and the entire rumor was based off dumb people misinterpretation what others were talking about. The entire "100% efficient" came from comparing GCN to Xenos in 1 LANE SIMD vs 5 Lane SIMD in regards to specific shader utilization.. Then many people on the internet saw "100% efficient" and were like "errmahgawd! Durango is 100% efficient!" Not understanding the context at all, and thus we're here having this conversation.

The entire thing is just lulz worthy.
And that was perfect example. I'm not docking you for passing the info.

100% efficient GPU is a funny meaningless statement (not talking about Xbox here, just in general). For one thing, it assumes that the game is GPU-bound.

I believe any modern GPU can be used 100% depending on the task at hand.

Microsoft should not give up on japan.
I think they gained respect -at least in the eyes of non-Japanese :) for what they chose to do.
Also the mustache guy directed some hell of a japan-rpg games that I enjoyed

oh, and about playstation vs xbox <<powah>>...

you are missing the point here guys....

whats the glory of playstation, lets say by being 10% faster than xbox, if both of them will get bitch-slapped around when they come out next winter by next winter's gaming pc rigs?
it's like arguing who has the better wii.. smh lol

I own a gaming PC too, but people like you are the ones missing the point actually.

People play on consoles not because they're more powerful, they play on consoles because :

- It's a lot easier to play, with less driver / patch / OS hassle
- They've got exclusive games on it they can't play on PC (sony, nintendo, xbox exclusives)

So console players generally don't care PCs are more powerful since they don't want to bother with configuring them, and they can't play the games they love on them anyway, since they're not released on it.

On the other hand, they care about having a nice platform to play the games they like, so they care about console relative power.

It would be very nice if people could understand that once and for all. And that's coming from someone who plays a lot on his PC (and on consoles too).

Now, on the end of every console gen, I play more multiplats on my PC, but that's all...

This endless spec discussion

Yeah it was fun before but now I could really care less since the reveal is so close. Running in circles. I've gotten to the point where I don't really care for specs and just want to see some damn games after PS Meeting has given us the first tangible taste of that stuff.

where you see either "console players" or "pc players", I see "gamers".
you make distinctions where you don't have to. you yourself say that you play on pc, but you play on consoles too. so that makes you according to your rules, what? a console player or a pc player? because its clear that you cant be both... :)

when a very significant percentage of a platform's games, will run significantly better on another platform, then gamers like me will judge the extra hassle, the extra cost, the extra whatever you want in order to get the better experience.

what percentage of games do you expect to be multiplatform and what exclusive during this new generation?

and its not like todays gaming pcs still need the user to make boot floppy disks for each game...you basically install and run. just like consoles will do this time.
oh yeah, you have to plug in your usb xbox controller too..

then, your point about people loving their console exclusives that they cant get on pc, flattens a bit your point about xbox vs playstation "power" importance, because, lets face it, you probably too bought a wii for Mario galaxy, and wii being the weakest console of them all played absolutely no part in your Mario love.
So unless either playstation or xbox can run the other's exlusives, again there is no point in having a "powah" debate between them while dismissing the pc.

so the missing point actually is, it looks like last gen we bought one wii, this gen we could be buying two of them, or three if we get the nintendo version too when Mario drops :)

Well it's efficient engineering. Elegance. GPU makers just brute force their problems away.

If you can get more actual performance out of something without increasing your TDP or thermal, its really a job well done.

Less short term problems, more long term savings. (Yield)

hardcore gamers don't want intelligent nuance, they want numbers they can beat their neighbor over the head with

Anyone else working on Gifs? I'm making a few to post in the final few days of the countdown. Hope I'm not alone.

I tried to make a gif but I couldn't quite figure it out. I had problems getting the cropped faces to not look like shit. Is there a tutorial on gaf about not just making a gif, but how to add the faces on it as well?

I see gamers too, but it's really pointless talking about our PC in every console thread.

I can't play the games I want on it, so why should I care ?

And about the relative power importance, my point is playing on PC is generally too much hassle, I wan't everything to be fast and immediate.

So I don't play on PC, but I can buy mutiplats on any console, that's why their power matters.

Consoles also give me an ecosystem, I don't have any complex task to do to talk to my friends, they're just here. No mumble / teamspeak to start, no nothing. It just works.

Last thing : with diminishing returns era in full force, the PC owners will probably discover their games look roughly the same as the console version.

There will be even less reason to fork hundreds of $ on a PC rig every other year with graphics diminishing returns. My 2 cents.

Good fucking lord get the fuck out of console threads about PC's being so goddamn awesome.

unless sony can do magic that lasts for 5 years with a redesigned 7850 and Microsoft can do the same with even less, I believe it is hard for you to predict with success that games will look the same on console and pc for a full console life cycle.
last gen they where probably more "brave", and still these last years the difference is significant.

I see gamers too, but it's really pointless talking about our PC in every console thread.

Unless of course it's relevant to the discussion.

I find it hard to believe only consoles offer games you want to play.

And about the relative power importance, my point is playing on PC is generally too much hassle, I wan't everything to be fast and immediate.

Consoles can be bad too. Mandatory installs, slow downloads for patches and system updates, slow navigation.

So I don't play on PC, but I can buy mutiplats on any console, that's why their power matters.

So one that plays at a steady 30fps compared to the other that dips to 28fps time to time makes much more of a difference than the PC which plays at 60fps and much higher than 720p?

Consoles also give me an ecosystem, I don't have any complex task to do to talk to my friends, they're just here. No mumble / teamspeak to start, no nothing. It just works.

Steam has lots of games and is very fast and easy to use.

Last thing : with diminishing returns era in full force, the PC owners will probably discover their games look roughly the same as the console version.

Not really. Games can not only look better but also run much smoother. Even the new Killzone shown is going to be capped at 30fps.

There will be even less reason to fork hundreds of $ on a PC rig every other year with graphics diminishing returns. My 2 cents.

A PC can actually last for years without the need to upgrade.

PC games will always look better and have more options in multiplat games. It's a fact. Why? Because PC technology is upgraded annually while consoles last for 6-7 years.

Also, nobody has to upgrade their PC every other year for goodness sakes. The only people who do that are those that MUST have the latest and most powerful GPU's. I have a 680 and my PC was built more than a year ago. If I wanted to I could purchase a more powerful GPU this year but I don't see the point. I'm already playing every game maxed out. Also, that Watchdogs video that was supposedly on the PS4? Yea, it was on a PC.

We're derailing the thread so let's stop the debate here please.

The closer we get to photorealism, the less difference there will be between PC and consoles, that's how it is. Simply because we don't make huge progress graphically anymore.

We'll get to cloud gaming anyway, where local platforms will just disappear. We'll stream from the most powerful machines, so the debate will be over.

I'm betting most folks in this thread about the Xbox reveal don't give a wet fart about how much better PC is. Just thinking out loud here...

The new Xbox is going to be so awesome. "Weak specs" and all.

The OS of a console is where its at now. Games shmames.

Every major console ever has had enough games worth buying to create a backlog.

Its other stuff now that differentiates for me.

If PC is so awesome why don't you marry it?
Maybe when polygamy is legal and you can have a deep relationship with both PC and shitting up multiplat and console threads with port begging and simultaneous elitism.

Maybe it just goes to show how little there is to talk about ATM in this thread. Pre-PS Meeting there were a lot more rumours flying and a lot of negative Durango press.

Fuck games! I'll buy the console with the most bloated OS!

yes, Kinect2 voice recognition would be awesome for stuff like "xbox, focus, you are skipping frames", or even "xbox, add tessellation and AA godamit"
:D

jokes aside, I also expect new xbox os to bring good and nice improvements. both previous Xboxes did fantastic in that aspect. its almost a legacy thing

It'll be interesting to see who copies whom all next gen. This past gen Sony spent it trying to catch up. Will it be Microsoft's turn this time? If they don't have game-video sharing/live streaming, they better hurry up and get copying now. It's not a feature I will use on the sharing side, but on the viewing side I definitely see this being a big deal.

I'm hoping to get minority report class of Kinectivity. No need for a controller, just sit in your high-tech chair and swipe your hands while yelling.

We kind of have that now. But most of the yelling is along the lines of "Xbox pause...Xbox pause...XBOX PAUSE...HOLYFUCK PAUSE!...No, Kate I'm not yelling at the kids, go back to your book... XBOX PAUSE FOR CRISSAKE! Awww great the movie is over!"

All I want to do is order Pizza Hut™ with voice control!

I have a feeling they will have video sharing/streaming. I think they may have twitch locked up, just a hunch.

+1

In the gen before last, I got a ps2 and a gamecube but I would have been happy with an xbox. This gen, I bought a 360 but I could have been happy with a PS3 or even a Wii.

I like games, but there will be fun games no matter what I choose. I want to know about the other stuff.
