To me, that's the most uncontroversial thing in the world.

That has to happen! It's an awesome idea and it works with the idea of Microsoft getting some exclusive TV content for their Xbox Video service.

I would honestly buy the system just for that. I was so into those web-episodes.

-Though I can't stand any of the sequels. I want the Fable game I was promised in 2004 when I bought my OG XBOX.

Let me buy the OS/xbox live software and build my own gaming htpc so I don't have to deal with weak hardware.

I honestly would be willing to pay $150 bucks just for the damn OS/xbox live and ability to play against xbox owners. I prefer a game pad to kb/m anyways.

That way people that actually are willing to spend money on powerful hardware, but want to play with family/friends that don't care and fine with the plug/play console, can play with them.

I... can't even fathom how that could possibly work

CONTROVERSIAL OPINION: I think Halo is a fun game

I'm going to be playing Halo 4 for the first time later on this week. I've enjoyed all the games since the beginning, and I'm really excited to see what 343 has done with the series. Can't wait!

Hell yes, and (even though I really liked Fable 1 and 2) hell yes.

CONTROVERSIAL OPINION: I want used games blocked so we can install them and run them without discs in the drive.

Means we can suspend multiple games and multitask properly.

Screw the peasants and their used game habit.

Not controversial to me. I would actually very much enjoy this. The used games market really doesn't matter to me at all.

architecturally? how would it not work? These consoles are going to be basically modified pc parts and no where near as powerful. Wouldn't be a problem.

the 360 os and guaranteed the Durango os run on a windows kernel as is. No biggy there.

How do you think developers work on games before there is any actual hardware that will be in the console?

The PS4 controller leaked 6 days before the conference...so maybe soon? Then again MS is probably very serious about the NDA.
Bahaha. Like the PS4 controller was ever going to look much different from the PS3 one (or the PS2 one or the PS1 one) anyway.

I'm certainly not informed enough to explain why this would be a huge challenge, but I am reasonably confident in saying that it would be.

You would be running an entirely different version of the game and interfacing with the console version. You'd have to be limited in many ways to make that work, I would imagine. So it would probably nullify the conceit of having more power.

Maybe I'm just an idiot.

Fresh Prince gifs? You have style, sir.

I'm hoping the Nextbox's controller doesn't look too different besides the d-pad and bumpers. They're likely going to have a new guide button as well, since the 3D 360 orb kind of goes against the Modern, flat UI design.

ACTUAL CONTROVERSIAL OPINION: I'm fine with season passes existing.

If you're the type who's going to get all the DLC anyway, why not pre-order it and even get a discount as opposed to what it would cost if you bought them separately?

As long as they don't simply raise the price of DLC ridiculously to make season passes seem better, I'm fine with it.

The PS4 controller does look different from the older ones though, and by quite a bit. You can't expect them to completely redesign the entire thing. It is like going from the S controller to the 360 one, don't ya think?

On another note, 8 more days!

Yeah they need to emulate STEAM as much as possible. I impulse buy so much stuff on that damn platform. They have it brilliantly setup.

I think MS has probably been paying attention to other services (PS+, Steam, and everything else) more than people expect.

I was just reading a bit about J Allard and his ambitions for the Xbox. I can only imagine how ballsy it was at the time to challenge the juggernaut of the Playstation. ~15 years after those initial meetings, the 360 has become the console of choice in North America and is a constant source of profit for Microsoft. Allard was a visionary at the time. Here's hoping that this company will continue to push the boundaries at it did with both the Xbox and the 360.

Suffice to say, I'm hyped. Just about a week left now!

that sounded worthy of an "only on xbox" avatar. Someone give it to the poor man, will ya?

CONTROVERSIAL OPINION: XBOX 1 >>>> XBOX 360

When Halo single player peaked (Halo 1) and Halo multiplayer peaked (Halo 2), plus all the quirky stuff the Dreamcast used to get (Jet Set Radio Future), Microsoft seemed to be more focused in studio investments and risks, they were going straight for the core rather than the casual consumer, and they were introducing network play while Sony and Nintendo were largely absent. In an era with no ads, no Pizza Hut Apps, no bullshit. Just you, Xbox Live, and for those early enough to experience Halo 1 MP - Xbox Connect.

I think Jeff Canatta said it once on bonus round. Blocking used game sales of single player games, may end up being the savior of single player games. No more need to cram in useless multiplayer in the vain hope of preventing people from trading in their disks.

As a fan of single player games and someone who buys a lot from steam, I am on board.

Come on folks. Izick started, I followed, post your CONTROVERSIAL OPINION:

What do you want you think no one else does from the new Xbox?
Kinect to do something significant with gaming. Hardcore titles that turn a novelty into a new kind of experience. A killer app, if you must.

I know there is a space with RTS, or even turn-based, for this to occur, but there has to be some sort of game that makes you manipulate stuff in 3D space that can work if the technology and hardware is good enough to make the user interface as natural and intuitive as can be.

GAF hates Kinect, for good reason. I never bought one myself because it's a shit value proposition ATM. But with it in every box, and with parity with the new PSEye, I think the door has opened for a lot of new experiences that may not immediately rely on the tactile.

I am also hoping kinect will actually matter this time around. I never got the original, but I kinda hope Infinity IS packaged with it

Unless you hate fun, then Dance Central is worth the price of admission for Kinect.

They need to rework the charging system. The current setup sucks.

I rather have the usual rechargeable exchange method then sony's inside battery. You know, any rechargeable thing has an amount of life span already set, someday at the near future there won't be any Playstation 3's controller working 'cause when the battery dies, the entire controller dies too.

Microsoft and Sont NEED to get DD prices right next-generation. More sales, more weekly deals, and keep prices current and realistic; at least have games as the same price as their retail counterpart. You give me no incentive to buy the new Call of Duty digitally for 60$ when I can get it new for 50$ in stores, so make sure to at least keep prices on par.
Really want to the prices be at the publisher's hand, so he scale up and down as he wish.

Yeah, that's gonna suck.

I'm hoping for different business models next gen. Subscription services like PS+, sales like Steam, F2P stuff, etc. Maybe even some kind of "rental" type service. Pay 10% of the cost to play the game for 3 days, get prompted to buy game, etc. OF COURSE they only offer this x amount of weeks after the game is released, so not to hurt sales.

I'd also like to see maybe AAA games being split up and sold in packages, so consumers don't have to buy what they don't care about. You could buy the full game, or just the story mode, or just the multiplayer, etc. Or maybe you could get the full game without achievements or something for a cheaper price. I have no idea how this would all work out.

Kinect won't matter until VR is a reality.
I don't understand the comparison at all, two fairly different concepts. As much as I like the ambition of the Oculus Rift and VR solutions, I really don't want to have to put some shit on my face every time I want to game. Most of my other complaints seem to be things that go away when you try it, but VR just doesn't rub me the right way even if it can add immersion. There's just so many logistical things like movement and how cameras would work with limited physical head control and the need for more complex control you get with an analog with quick 360 degree movement, etc.

My Xbox is connected to my PC desktop with little room outside of for my chair. Not an option, and very shortsighted of MS IMO. In my current set up Kinect can't even detect me. Thankfully, Kinect 2.0 might because it can sense things closer to it though.

They're very related.

Occulus Rift is still early, but once we get 4k resolutions, better hardware for the games to run those ridiculous resolutions (along with higher framerates), the full graphical immersion will be at hand.

Kinect would allow you to interact with a virtual world the likes of which has never been seen before.

Ideally you'd still have a controller - something like PS move which would allow for movement inside the game, as well as tactile feedback, but Kinect would actually be able to capture your finger's movements in the world, and enable an unprecedented amount of immersion. It would radically change the way developers think of game design, in a good way. VR worlds would be more organic than the abstract methods we currently face with game design.

Yikes, Watch_Dogs_2 using your actual cellphone with smartglass

I'm fine with them giving me the option to choose between regular batteries in their charger. I just want them to make a battery charging accessory that last more than a year. They need to put some kind of lithium battery in the charging units instead of two no-name AA rechargeable batteries.

I am very optimistic for Kinect V2 even though I bought a Kinect and I only used it for DC2 and the gunstringer. I admit that V1 was pretty much a successful beta test product. Cannot wait to see V2 though for some odd reason.

I bet you anything that F2P is coming.

Imagine if Halo 5 was free to play, just the multiplayer part of it, and you just earned xp slower like in planetside.

So every single Xbox Infinite user can play Halo 5 for free, and pay if they want the single-player and faster xp gain.

I use Dance Central at parties, voice stuff on the dashboard a lot.
I just hope we never have to see another Steel Batalion or Star Wars Kinect. That was just embarassing

This was going to be my CONTROVERSIAL OPINION. Xbox 1 had such a better mix of games.
