Yeah....

...gimme Metro instead.

It looks dated and amateur, dare I say it's something Sony or Nintendo would adopt, MS seem to be a lot more clean with their interfaces.

As bad as the RRoD debacle was, they shouldn't bring it up. It's time to move on, they've shown their newer consoles are reliable, that should be enough to assuage any fears.

Ya most definantly moving on. Doesn't even make sense to talk about that now.

No need for an extra thread right now. Its nicely contained here with the other little tidbits being batted around.

I mean they could still do this with tiles, in theory. It wouldn't be as aesthetically pleasing (I can't picture it being more aesthetically pleasing, at least.) but it could definitely still be done.

Part of me still thinks Microsoft would use a better design if they found it for Kinect. Not to mention they incorporate the other parts of Modern UI into it as well, those being flatness and color.

Still, even if we don't get this UI, this is exciting!

Ya thats all true.

i dont like that bubble ui. reminds me of the vita ui and thats not a good memory.

metro is fine but it should be highly customizable and slightly differ from the ui, the 360 has.

With Metro infused in Windows 8 and Win phone 8, I just don't see how the UI for the next-box wont be heavily metro based, particularly as I think they are trying to sell the "three screen" movement.

They'd want a unified look across the platforms I think.

If that's how the UI looks, then kinect 2.0 would have be a huge focus.

(in before haters) This would not be a bad thing at all.

A bubble UI might look cool and dynamic and spiffy but I'm not sure how user friendly that is. I suppose they could go a number of directions as long as they continued to rely on the guide menu for social interactions, invites, etc.

I don't know...part of me things it's news, but another part of me things it's just too loose of a rumor. Not to mention I love having all the next Xbox discussion in one thread right now.

That's not how it works, this can be easily missed, plus it's a lot more likely than half the rumours that have gotten threads.

I would love that actually, because it would be a surprise, and actually playful again.

yeah, that would be a huge swerve.

It's also possible that this is just one "Miiverse"-like feature of the next Xbox. They could have the main UI be tiles and this could just be something else.

Probably we will see those circles/bubbles as part of identity/branding, maybe bits in interface (as part of new template for achievements notification?). But I personally don't think that this is related to new Xbox UI.

ya they could also add effects for say game invites with the bubble pulsating and what not. I am not a GFX designer but what I am seeing I actually like the look of especially as the bubbles could be grouped, colored, and made unique depending on status.

My thoughts exactly.

Not sure what 'it' is, but if people think it's a big enough coincidence than I'm fine with it. It's not really up to me anyways, I'm just one poster.

I think circles in an UI is horrible.
Always is. Most inefficient use of space possible, makes text harder to read, looks cheap (see Vita), radial designs disperse information and make it harder to read etc.

It's only good for Kinect interaction as a circle cursor for your hand movement, and still not worth all the downsides IMO.

I like Metro and I like how the guide is right now on 360.

My guess: the circle UI might be used to do very simple things (eg., when you turn on the console you select a circle to jump straight to a game) or tangental things (eg., a message from a friend floats in in the form of a circle over the existing UI which you can grab via connect and read or dismiss). I think they will stick w/ a metro-esque UI for the main navigation though, as I can't see how this would translate well into navigating a store, for instance, or lists of games. Not to mention it would be difficult to integrate "ads" (I mean this in a good way, promotion for XBL content).

Anyway, it certainly is a good UI to show off kinect, if it works well.

Oh shit....

So they actually have hoverable bubbles that load and act exactly like that video!?

EDIT: BOLD PREDICTION: THEY USE THE BUBBLE UI WITH THE FLATNESS AND COLOR OF METRO

Putting that down for the history books!

Noticed that too. If Kinect 2 menu selections work as quickly as these do when you hover over them with a mouse - big improvement.

I have a feeling that the only bubble that's going to be burst is ours when I turns out to be Metro again. I have no problem with Metro, but this has that new car smell to it.

I don't have a problem with the Metro UI really, but everything feels a bit distracting and bland. Seeing all the advertisments and icons on the screen at once makes it feel a bit crowded, something like this would be really nice:

That looks like an incredible UI for kinect

But there lacks true hierarchy and potentially coherency

I prefer metro over that

But my mind might change when I use it or see it properly in action

From what I understand the timing of the sticky is easily changed regardless of the old/new Kinect it was just decided upon by overall user usage. Not to quick not to slow(though its slow for me). So HOPEFULLY that improvement may even come for the current 360 interface.

Is anyone else surprised that all indications point to them keeping the controller generally about the same? You would think if they are targeting a more "entertainment" based main audience that they might try to change it up.

Guess they still could, its not like any of the info we have is confirmed by MS.

I hope they specifically address concerns about the reliability of the launch product beyond just saying " so sorry about that, we've worked hard to do better".

Red ring issue was significant and long enough of an issue that it demands some kind of guaranteed warranty.

They've already addressed this though. Its not something you have to worry about unless you have an early model 360. Later revisions like the slim are rock solid.

Why change perfection?*
