Surface and Windows Phone says no.

I'm sorry bro, but on this one I must disagree with you.

No way. Guess we will agree to disagree. It is one of the worst UIs around imho. One of the biggest failures of windows 8.

Is the Lumia 920 version of Metro any different from the 720 ones? I only have experience with the 720.

Well you're not gonna get it so clam down, everything I said still stands however, Vita's UI just looks cheap and dated and pretty much anything would be an improvement. I don't exactly see how Metro is messy, it's a lot cleaner and organized looking than Vita's UI, do you even know what Metro is I should ask?

I am perfectly calm -_- Not sure what that's about. Trust me, I have criticized vita and the UI plenty. But metro will not be an upgrade. Not sure how metro is 'cleaner' either or better organized. Do you ask everyone who disagree with you if they know about the subject matter? Do you know how opinions work or should I ask?

Judging from the Internet, like Windows XP but with more tacky transparency effects everywhere. Oh and two clocks. And a CPU temperature indicator in godawful mid 90s 'futuristic' font.

Exactly, only your opinion.

Windows Phone 8 is Windows Phone 8, they are all the same.
Which means it is a great UI :)

There's gotta be a reason why final specs haven't been leaked

:]

There are no final specs?

Hell no. Current vita UI is fine..what it lacks is in the visual appeal department. Metro is a clusterfuck of a messy UI. Keep that well away from vita..I rather have the current one. Heck give me the psp xmb UI with dynamic wallpaper support and I'm good to go. But no..no metro

It's a messy and ugly UI. I hate having to see it even on my laptop

Eh, no, sorry, Metro might not be your cup of tea, and it definitely has its difficulties in dealing with a large amount of content, but messy and ugly it is not. Sorry. It is leagues better UI than anything offerred on a competing console.

The problem with Vita's UI is not that its "soulless', its that its incredibly amateur looking, akin to early gen Android UI.

I wonder what people ideal UI would look like if they had design control over it

For me? As an User Experience dude, the ideal one is one who handle very well the input, whatever it is.
Metro is good for touch and Kinect, not THAT well to controller, but I like when they use all the buttons to fast travel around the lists, and hate when the conventions are broken on some screens, and you tap RB and tabs won't switch or press RT and you don't end up at the final of the list.

Part of my job is to design user interfaces, so, I'm picky with it, the situation now on X360's UI are patches over patches so far. Next Xbox will start a clean project, as Blades were to the early X360, so, 'm hyped.

It failed (even tho it's actually selling at the rate of Win 7 FYI) because it's not suited to desktops, not because of the UI itself. I'd like to see you control a desktop with the XMB or Vita UI .. yeah.

On phones/tablets it's beautiful and the versions we've had on xbox work very well too.

Do you actually have some accurate reasons why you don't like Metro other than personal choice (which is fine) calling it messy and a clusterfuck is just ignorant thought, because it isn't those things.

It means exactly what it means, it has no soul, no life, it's lacking and it feels detached. Like when you turn on a crappy dvd player. Nothing ridiculous about it.

I don't know if soulless is the right word exactly, but there is def an problem with how disjointed many of the core apps are with the vita. I don't think the circular icons have anything to do with how poorly the UI works aside from the fact that it's just ugly.

A)You guys are high if you think that will be the new UI

B) People linked to that Xbox.com widget about 50 pages ago. It's old.

Remember, the Xbox 360 graphic theme was circles too. But the UI was blades. We'll be getting a variant on the current dashboard. You can take that to the bank.

Sure. And I know there are people who like it and I am perfectly fine with that too :)

Then I stand by what I said.

Disagree wholeheartedly. It's just not a well designed UI and will be a downgrade to the current vita one. What the vita UI needs is a visual upgrade...I can definitely get behind that notion. It's not as appealing visually than some UIs in the market for sure. Hope sony works on that

I feel like we are getting off topic a bit here so let's just leave it at that. :) Let's agree to disagree

I have experience with win08 on laptops, destops, tablets and phones. Which is why I asked if the lumia 720 version was changed for the newer lumia phones.

Win08 phones aren't exactly lighting up the charts either you know. Doesn't sound like people like it that much either

My reasons are already presented. I think it's a messy and ugly UI. How can it be ignorant if that's my opinion which is based on actual experience with the UI on multiple devices? No need to be so defensive geez. Did you see me saying you are ignorant for calling vita UI soul-less? It wouldn't make no sense now would it...because it changes from one user to another. Accept people have different opinions on the matter, be less defensive and move on. I don't want to continue this argument in this thread. This should a positive thread

What's messy about it? It's mostly squares and rectangles aligned in a grid.

Weird. The Games app looks different on my Surface.

I hope MS tier XBL

but I think MS will be like ''if ppl pay for XBL, what would be the point in not charging for online, we would make less money''

theres something like 30 mill gold subs at the moment which is abut 40% of the total userbase, if they offer free online play the amount of paid subs would probably go down to about 10-20% and therefore make MS less money, which is not going to happen.

It will only happen if the uptake of $60 a yeAR SUB OF GOLD THAT IS REQUIRED FOR ONLINE PLAY, goes down, which seems unlikely, ppl now are still paying for online play with XBL gold why would they stop when durango comes out?.

The only other reason they may offer a free online version is out of fear for what sony is offering.

I play online games in spurts, i can go a few months at a time not touching an online game, and when I want to play the latest cod,BF or GTA online my dam sub has run out, I really dont want the same bother next gen.

I think I like X360 UI because of how easy it is to put a lot of information on one screen, but not in a confusing way.

It's all nicely separated into main categories and sub-categories, so it's impossible to get lost.

EDIT: I think free Online could easily be a thing if they charged for ALL social features except friends and messaging.

I still remember the sound of the blades.

I've got a Lumia 920, so I clearly care about the UI. It's not like we got any apps, so the UI is the only entertainment Windows Phone users have.

I'm rocking a black 920. Best looking phone OS there is. By a mile. Metro is just stunning, if we're talking pure looks.

How many of you who care a lot about UI have smartphones?

Funny enough, I don't yet. I wasn't keen to the idea of being so connected to the internet and other people at all times, because I see a lot of people and friends kind of glued to their phones throughout the day, but I've decided to come to the dark side. I plan on getting a Lumia 9XX.

Well putting that aside let me ask you guys for your opinion on something.

Do you think there's a chance MS will pull a sony and not show the actual hardware until E3? I'm guessing no since Major Nelson was joking about it at the time too. Do you think it would be a smart move?

But the UI is important to you? I feel the same way about smartphones, and I'm constantly tempted, but I like clunky technology I'm not ready for this slick future...
