Is anyone else surprised that all indications point to them keeping the controller generally about the same? You would think if they are targeting a more "entertainment" based main audience that they might try to change it up.

Guess they still could, its not like any of the info we have is confirmed by MS.

Not at all. Its an overall excellent controller that seems to be easy enough for the young and old to use. Sometimes no change is the BEST thing.
Dpad repaired and Kinect for Kinectophiles.

Business just picked up, King!

uhh.. when I'm on the market for a new tv-based bubbly life organizer thing, I'll let that microsoft research dude know.

I hope 21st does not deviate to "oh-oh, its raining! lets check if you should change your ticket and the consequences of that"
that would be kinect-levels bad

The circles really could have just been used in the presentation to show how different part of the experience (ie social, gaming, apps) all communicate and interact with one another. Maybe it's just conceptual. At the end of the day you are still going to be pushing the guide button to both send and react to messaging and notifications.

It's funny how the PS2 was crap HW wise but the original Xbox was great and everyone forgets it.

Every now and then shoddy HW is released, doesn't mean it'll happen again.

MS has to prove otherwise by releasing something reliable at the beginning of a console life cycle after the RROD. Nothing unfair about that really. Sony should be just as pressured to do so as well.

Nah, controller is generally very well received, no huge reason to change it. They're targeting the "entertainment" based audience w/ kinect controllers, most likely.

Either there's a smart remote bundled in the box, or that's what Kinect 2.0 is for.

Do we have a list of the journalists who are going? Not that it will be a perfectly accurate rep of whats going to be discussed but if its all New York Times and Modern Magazine...well then..

nope, the 360 controller is perfect (the one with the good dpad)

Jeff Gerstman is going, Arthur Gies is not going.
That's all I know, lol.

Oh I agree completely, outside of the dpad, the 360 controller is my fav of all time.

Didn't we get a rumour on a new dpad? I know they're limited by patents but I hope they've improved, and by improved I don't mean that twisty dpad Whilst better it didn't really change much.

You prove it by doing it. You don't prove it by acknowledging past mistakes that you already fixed. That would be idiotic marketing. "Hey remember us? We fucked up before. Buy from us again." That's fine if the last thing you were known for was messing up, but it's not. Sales tell you they've recovered from it incredibly.

Why does this make me think there will be a touch pad/screen on the controller?

I don't know, part of me thinks MS doesn't want to mess with perfection (besides the d-pad and maybe wider bumpers) but this UI just looks perfect for touch and Kinect.

That won't be the UI.

We'll see.

Agreed. Though I can see them explaining how long the warranty is when talking about the price. But mentioning that now wouldn't make any logical sense.

I think it would be odd to have 3 total control styles. Touch, Kinect, controller. I hope not at least as NOTHING about a touch pad is interesting to me, personally, when it comes to consoles.

Yup, which is why I said that. I don't care what they talk about unless it's something completely new, I care about what they actually release and how it works. Of course it would be bad to talk about the massive failure that was RROD. I never said otherwise.

It's almost here. I can almost taste the excitement.

What the hell does that even mean? What a ridiculous complaint.

Calm down, cowboy. The Vita is a fine little handheld, but its UI is lifeless and drab. AKA soulless.

Sorry, that wasn't aimed at you. Moreso at the guy who was saying they had to acknowledge RROD at the release of the Nextbox.

It means exactly what it means, it has no soul, no life, it's lacking and it feels detached. Like when you turn on a crappy dvd player. Nothing ridiculous about it.

We'll see.

Windows is Metro. Windows Phone is Metro. Outlook is Metro. Office has Metro elements. The current dashboard is Metro. Why would Microsoft spend years creating a relatively unified UI, only to throw it out for bubbles?

Metro is a horrible UI..no thanks

What do you dislike about it?

Much better than Vita's current. Clean, modern and vibrant vs cheap, soulless and dated.

Hell no. Current vita UI is fine..what it lacks is in the visual appeal department. Metro is a clusterfuck of a messy UI. Keep that well away from vita..I rather have the current one. Heck give me the psp xmb UI with dynamic wallpaper support and I'm good to go. But no..no metro

What do you dislike about it?

It's a messy and ugly UI. I hate having to see it even on my laptop

I wonder what people ideal UI would look like if they had design control over it
Judging from the Internet, like Windows XP but with more tacky transparency effects everywhere. Oh and two clocks. And a CPU temperature indicator in godawful mid 90s 'futuristic' font.

Well you're not gonna get it so clam down, everything I said still stands however, Vita's UI just looks cheap and dated and pretty much anything would be an improvement. I don't exactly see how Metro is messy, it's a lot cleaner and organized looking than Vita's UI, do you even know what Metro is I should ask?
