The new buttons names makes total sense to me. I usually hit 'a' to start games.

When you think about it, having a button dedicated to the "start" function doesn't make sense any more. I suppose it comes from the arcade, but for consoles it is indeed more of a "menu" button now.
"Back" never made sense either, since in many situations other buttons are preferred for that command (B or left bumper)

DAYS TO GO PEOPLES!!!

Having a browser accessible via the guide button while in game would be amazing.

Even better if various forums could release plugins/apps so you wouldn't have to navigate via a browser.

If they have a system to access all social media while playing that could be a really fun use of "patented Onlive features" like making short clips/streaming/etc. Either that or have GAF races to speedrun something and have a way to take a screencap and post immediately upon finish.

I hope they go a step further. I want them to have the snap feature in Win8. I would love being able to snap open a game guide in IE and have it on the side while I'm playing so I wouldn't have to go back and forth between them while playing.

Fuck I need a map for? I'm a man. I know where I'm going.

I'm sorry I ever questioned your manliness. :P

Back and Start are now called View and Menu.

That makes a lot of sense. 'Start' hasn't been used for start in generations.

It still weirds me out when I play some NES or GB classic on a new Nintendo system and actually have to hit 'Start' instead of one of the regular face buttons. It's fucking archaic.

Neat, I guess?
Kotaku rumor said it was a smaller Xbox 360 controller with a better d-pad. I think VG Leaks said the Start and Back button has been renamed.
Aww yeah, now we're talking. Reports of a smaller controller make me wonder how they could fit the rumored PS4-style touchpad in there, since there's barely any space in the middle of the current 360 pad as is.

Yes it makes sense but the names are odd. The three buttons in the middle of the controller are going to be called

View-Guide-Menu

All of these names could mean basically the same thing.

Lets hope there isn't one, its unnecessary.

I hope not. That thing is gimmicky

LCD touch screen? I'd be all over that. Context sensitivity ftw!

I think everyone expects something akin to the sony share button, but I think they will go farther.

MSFT unveils a full on game TV network direct to Xbox (or maybe partners with Twitch), with competition brackets taking place over xbox live and final rounds of competition complete with coverage from studio hosts.

Still need Tilt-to-walk-across-log options.

Hahahah. Man please no. Probably will be in there to match features but it simply doesn't add immersion on 90% of the situations its used.

Save the money Sony spent to put that and the touchpad in to offset a bit on the Kinect. Done.

That's a good question, I wonder if the gamepad will include inertial sensors... It's become a standard, but at the moment MS is the only one that didn't get to it (except for older PC gamepads)

I hope they leave it out. Do not want!

They'll definitely be using the individual .xbox addresses for something.

I'd be www.shandy706.xbox for example. Want to see my Conker Stats?

I hope MS delivers some gaming MEGATONS at this conference. I want something like GTA V exclusive to Xbox Durango!

there wont be any megatons.
we will get: a look at the console and controller, -the name of the console and new live services, -gameplay videos from 3-4 games, maybe an in-depth look at the new kinect.

its only an hour, theres not much oom for big megatons, thats what e3 is for.

If my source is telling the truth... we will have something like that! He said there's a discrete screen that you can't see when turned off. All you guys talking about menu buttons and stuff.... what if it's touch menu buttons.

God I hope he's right!

For me, a smaller controller doesn't sound inherently better. I think the 360's controller is the perfect size. Better d-pad is great of course.

Agreed. There is most definantly going to be some serious doubling down on those sites. I am somewhat hopeful that they do a good job on that.

Actually most megatons are very short and are a blurb and a game name. Years ago somewhere here broke it down that the average was only like 3-4 minutes for a megaton as many times they DON'T go into insane detail.

Not saying we will have tons. Just saying if there are there they make no more than a negligible impact on time.

Touch menu buttons would be awful if near my fingers. I want to click a button...not accidently brush menu buttons.

Man, now I kind of want them to have an Smartphone like Controller. The controller should be made with two things in mind.

1-Managing Apps. (A touch pad like Sony's should work well with zooming and scrolling etc...)
2-Current games. I don't care about Gamepads that barely get any use in today's games, focus in improving triggers, buttons, analogs and form factor to be a pleasure to play games.

Also don't get rid of this.

.

It fits nicely and gives a neat weight to the controller, just improve the keys and rearrange them in a way that works.

Yep. Just going to be a big bland waste of time.
Can't stop the hype train

Could be true. That was one of the very first rumors a LONG time ago.

Can someone put an "Only on Xbox" tag on my avatar? =) I'd be very grateful. Preferably near the bottom so as not to cover Mark Fraser's face, haha.

Could make sense for multitasking purpose... assuming you can switch from gameplay to another app on the fly, you will need a command to do it. The gamepad buttons will obviously be dedicated to the game, and a logical choice would be to keep swiping gestures to switch applications. So the gamepad would need at least a touch area.

I'm already on board.

Their gTLD plans are most definitely robust, and they are partnering with Verisign for the .xbox gTLD. As I have mentioned before: https://gtldresult.icann.org/application-result/applicationstatus/applicationdetails/1366

Yep seen it before. What MY thoughts are around is how well they use it. I can see a website for each user but if its got all this sharing I want to be able to do "youtube" type stuff on there. Make the thing massive with some cross functionality with things like youtube. Attaching accounts and so forth.

That was probably the best peripheral I bought this gen. The worst being the Sony equivalent that I bought to use with DC Online. Terrible buttons, wrong placement on the controller. Just the complete opposite of the 360 chatpad. Makes me think Microsoft planned the chatpad during the design phase of the console. If so, brilliant.

ya I guess they have to save some stuff for e3...

That would make sense. I hadn't thought about that.
