Video Game Championship Wrestling Thread 2: 1000 Years of #THQuality

That Barkley promo was written by Vince Russo.

The main problem I had with it was that the Punk promo was designed to be painfully truthful and aware to the WWE's main audience, but I don't really have any idea if I'm supposed to buy whatever Barkley's saying. Like he brings up jobbers and win records but going by the tourney (Luigi's two singles victories were against Phoenix and Mario...as a completely different character. He has never won a singles match as Luigi) and Captain Falcon getting a #1 contender's match out of nowhere despite wearing Proto's ballgag for the past few weeks Bazza clearly does not give a shit about a wrestler's record in the way the Barkley promo emphasized it.

Additionally, Red and Barkley are completely different cases in that Ash won his championship before getting upgraded, his matches are usually very close, and he hasn't been bouncing around the title scene like Barkley has so I feel it impossible to draw an equivalency between the two and I'm left wondering what exactly I am supposed to take away from it beyond "Barkley mad Barkley smash"

It was just a fun promo. A promo for fun.

I hope they're not booted silently. They've been around long enough that they deserve more than that. Maybe a tender moment with Jon deciding he just can't do it anymore or something.

I think it's ridiculous the Game Grumps have been around this long, but he won't even consider using the Giant Bomb people. At least use Jeff. That entrance is hype.

It seems like he really doesn't want to put in any more non video game characters.

The Grumps, DBZ characters, Nerd, etc get to stick around since they were already in.

And honestly, I'm kind of frustrated that there's not a steady stream of new characters being rotated in. I understand the 50 CAW limit, but come on. We're still using essentially the same base of characters there were when this thing started.

We really aren't. There is a foundation of about 15 week-one wrestlers, but the roster has changed quite a bit.

Also Falcon is literally in Brawl and got snubbed, cold.

Falcon got more or less snubbed in Brawl, so it fits.

Terra went incredibly over when she went around the world with superplexes against Rydia from all four corners in one match.

You know what would be a nice compliment to VGCW that would satisfy long time fans and quite people's crying?

A good ol' developmental show where characters that haven't been used in a while along with new character compete to earn a spot on the main show. It could take place between seasons or on the weekends. Just random characters in random gimmick matches. Since W-L records are being kept, characters with awful records could be sent down to regain their popularity or just fade into obscurity.

And honestly, I'm kind of frustrated that there's not a steady stream of new characters being rotated in. I understand the 50 CAW limit, but come on. We're still using essentially the same base of characters there were when this thing started.

No, I think there ought to be a stable foundation of characters. Pump some new blood in every now and then, when there's an older wrestler we can afford to get rid of, but I think it's good to have a solid foundation of wrestlers who have been around a while.

I remember they were discussing that over on SA, seems they never really decided on it.

It's not as easy as just having another show and just doing it. You'd need someone to be able to stream it with the same enthusiasm and skill that Bazza does. Plus it has to be someone Bazza approves of as well.
