show the video or shut up.

I will not give a shred of credibility until the video is shown

Is he a competent mayor? Have people that work with him even noticed? If not, I don't see what the outrage is about. Then again, I don't know anything about this mayor. I guess a lot of people already hated him.

He isn't a competent mayor.

The entire city has noticed there is something fucking wrong with him at this point.

At work so not sure but was the gif of Ford trying to eat a matza ball while a rabbi keeps stopping him been posted yet? Funnier than the football fall.

You can read my comments on the last page if you want a brief review of his happenings lately, but it doesn't really do justice to just how incompetent he is. Thankfully, most councillors have stopped supporting him, making him basically powerless since a Mayor without council support can't do much. Of course, that doesn't stop him from trying to derail and delay every agenda item. A look at his history will boggle your mind on how he could ever become Mayor of a major city, but GRAVY TRAIN was a catchy slogan.

Yeah, ok.

Again, the star has seen the video and will likely be headline news tomorrow.

Just out of curiosity, what would you consider to be a good newspaper? Considering the star is the only one I ever see that actually digs for the truth?

Sorry for not responding to this last night. Went to bed.

All of the major Canadian papers have agendas that drive their stories. I only have personal experience with the Star "digging for truth" so I can say with certainty that they are not a trustworthy publication. I wouldn't blindly trust any of them though (I'm not suggesting that you would either).

I'm sure the journalists covering this really care about convincing you specifically.

I'm inclined to agree with gutter_trash's point. Unless they provide some sort of evidence I can't buy it 100%

I don't know anything about this guy but posts like this crack me up. As if you'd look any better if you had cameras falling around you all day.

That's actually pretty fair - and even if this particular guy seems to have a talent for just... looking ridiculous a lot of the time, I'm sure if I had cameras on me as much, I'd probably have quite a few... unflattering shots.

That being said, this dude is a colossal ass and a testament to how much people are swayed by catchy slogans. So... nobody really feels bad for him when they make fun of his horrible pictures.

This.

If the guy wasn't such a rude, sexist, homophobic, racist, with a history of drunk driving, flipping off random people, and groping women, then we all wouldn't be so eager to post these gifs or even believe this story. I have zero sympathy for him whatsoever

Remember the time he was caught reading stuff while driving a car? GOOD TIMES.

But his office comes in under budget. I mean, on one hand he's committing a felony on the job, but on the other hand he's saving the taxpayers a couple thousand bucks a year. I guess it's a wash.

You must be a fancy pants liberal who just can't wait to waste the tax money of honest tax paying Torontonians on things like a PERSONAL DRIVER!

Hahaha

My wife's reaction to the Star article: "goddamn how does Trudeau manage to get himself into every story"

Keep in mind, the sources that Gawker/The Star used for these stories claim to be crack dealers. Seems legit...

I'm pretty sure that The Star at least lawyered up like crazy before deciding to run the story. They're sticking their necks waaaay out on this one.

Again, it's a cell phone video. There is no way you could confirm exactly what he was smoking.

So, no problem with the comments toward Trudeau, his football team, or the company he's keeping in the video? It's not the focus of the story, but it's still despicable.

this is amazing and I can't wait to see how it all plays out

on a night in which Paul Godfrey gets booted from OLG and the LCBO averts a strike, Rob Ford finds a way to steal all the headlines.

People keep asking how he ended up mayor.

Our last mayor was David Miller , a former New Democrat Party (NDP) politician. The NDP are far to the left in terms of politcs. By US standards they would be considered almost communist.

Anyways to make a long story short David Miller enacted alot of policies that benefited the downtown core while upsetting suburbanites that tend to be more conservative.

A small example ... a 3 lane road (Jarvis) in Toronto that was a major north south artery through the city was cut down to 2 lanes to make room for bike lanes. Great for the city, bad for anyone commuting in by car.

That's just a small thing, but in the end the election of Ford showed a very steep divide between the political leanings of downtown citizens versus the suburbs. People are underestimating how much alot of folks hate "the "left" in the 905 area (code). I'm not even sure it was about politics so much as a feeling of wanting a mayor that would enact policies that consider the suburbs.

Alot of the progress made under David Miller benefited the downtown core directly, while suburbans felt (right or wrongly) their tax dollars were footing the bill. Ford campaigned on cutting taxes for the middle class in the suburbs and cutting down the huge spending of the former administration. The "gravy train"

Unfortunately Ford's vision of the gravy train included things like public libraries, arts programs, etc .... The council HATES the mayor with a passion as does the Toronto Star (the star is basically our leftist newspaper) as his politics are directly against everything they hold dear.

One thing is clear though, Ford won the majority of the vote. So while he has vocal opponents, he does have a clear mandate.

47%, while very impressive, is still not a majority. And there is no 'mandate' to be had in the position of Mayor. He has the largest platform and voice in the room when it comes to putting items on the agenda, but he also has to work with council to achieve his goals. He tried being a bully, pushing people around, rather than working together, or making compromises. So he lost the council after having a slightly support advantage early on, managing to kill Transit City and the Jarvis bicycle lanes. But his bully attitude eventually ended up costing him and now his supporters are very few. He likes to call it a liberal conspiracy, but it's no one's fault but his own.

He represents his constituents in his Ward and is the face of the city, but his position gives him nothing close to a mandate.

Again, it's a cell phone video. There is no way you could confirm exactly what he was smoking.

So your hypothesis right now is that the video exists, it shows what they say it shows, but the key point is that it's probably not crack in the pipe even if Ford appears out of it in the video and the pipe is the kind used for smoking freebased stuff rather than tobacco? Okay, let's go with that.

I think calling a prominent politician an anti-homosexual slur while on video smoking tobacco out of a pipe at a drug den is a character offence that is grounds for immediate resignation of an office like this. I think any attempt to misrepresent the facts now that the story has broken--literally anything disclosed about this whenever Ford makes a statement, if later shown to be inaccurate (and note, he's already called the whole thing "ridiculous", which means if the tape exists but the only fact wrong is what's inside the pipe, he's already broken this standard)--is separately grounds for immediate resignation of an office like this. If you don't, well, I don't think we have any common grounds for discussion.

Basically:
- If the video doesn't exist: All journalists involved need to be fired immediately and it goes without saying that the Star and Gawker should be sued.
- If the video exists but is CG/a body double/whatever: Hahahaha yeah right, give me a break.
- If the video exists but it's not crack: Ford needs to resign immediate or be censured or removed by the council if it's within their powers.
- If the video does exist and shows exactly what they say it shows: Ford needs to resign immediately or be censured or removed by the council if it's within their powers.

As a 905er who doesn't get to vote in TO politics (and no, the divide is North York, Scarborough , Etobicoke, the suburbs of 416), I would have still been in favour of all the downtown improvements, because anyone who commutes to and from the downtown realizes that the policies he's choosing is that it's a short sighted, me-first solution. We keep on hearing about Toronto being one of the most gridlocked cities in North America, so you've got two choices: more roads, or nudge commuters away to transit. Every time I hear someone friends and others who are in those suburbs who say they see the war on car issue, I often wonder: how often do they even travel downtown to even make that judgement call.

I entirely agree. If you put aside the 'crack', his actions described in the video are deplorable. Of course, he's made plenty of racist and homophobic comments in the past, even before he was Mayor. And he was still elected. So, I wonder how many people are okay with that part of it.

Agreed 100%

Incidentally, even if we remove crack out of the question the idea that the mayor would use a homophobic slur and call a bunch of kids "fucking minorities" is pretty damning on its own.

905 has nothing to do with Rob Ford. I know people get the 905 and the 416 suburbs confused, but mistaking us for voting for Rob Ford is disgusting. Rob Ford is a pure" only in Toronto", or more like "only on Scarborough" case.

For the people in this thread claiming false allegations, just be aware that the Toronto Star has basically bet its entire business on this story. The two main journalists involved are their top dogs.

You can call into question certain aspects of the paper's reputation, sure, but this isn't a tabloid we are talking about. A paper like the Star doesn't move on a story like this unless it is 100% sure of itself.
