Since I'm being called out, this really is starting to sound like a persecution complex on behalf of some folks. Overly defensive posters for anything that might be perceived as remotely negative for any given platform breeds toxic discussion far more than simply discussing your viewpoint in a well reasoned manner that you simply may disagree with.
I'm looking forward to seeing the next Xbox reveal just like anyone else, but my expectations aren't quite as high as some here for the initial reveal, and I've specifically discussed why that's the case - there's not a whole lot of time during their initial reveal to discuss what most of this community is interested in. I simply believe that while we may get some answers on Tuesday, it won't be the full picture, and some may be let down as a result if they let their imagination run wild.
But that's certainly not the end of the discussion, as Microsoft is quick to bring up, since E3 will be the main event for them talking about games.
My issue is that just announcing a box, talking about OS features, and discussing items of that nature is largely boring and predictable and I'm far more interested to see what games and new IP are in development for the platform...and I don't think we'll get much of that on Tuesday as I suspect only a few (largely predictable) titles will be shown only briefly, with CoD being the largest one. At the very least, I hope Microsoft teases some announcements that will at least whet our appetite for the main course meal @ E3, since that's where Microsoft will truly shine. People shouldn't take a straightforward hardware reveal as an indication of what is to come, in other words (if it ends up happening, anyhow)
I haven't seen too much discussion in the other thread that has been bad or outright blatant trolling just for trolling's sake -- heated, perhaps, but that's a little to be expected this close to E3, this close to new platforms being released, and so forth.
Just relax a bit and don't take someone's difference of opinion so personally.

I don't mind people having different opinion, but I do hate numerous, worthless "lol kinect sux" posts in a thread about someone from MS saying that there will be a lot of exclusives on display. I understand that Kinect may not be everyone's cup of tea (especially for people on here), but Microsoft is still publishing games that have little to no Kinect integration at all, 3 huge titles in Forza Horizon, Halo 4, and Gears of War: Judgement in late 2012 to early 2013 alone.
If that were someone from Sony saying that exact same thing, you would see the many memes and continues "awesome!" posts over and over again, which is great. That's what it should be every time. More games on the consoles is a great thing. The level of cynicism that's immediately brought to a thread though because it involves MS is what irks me though. It just becomes a boring thread of people posting "kinect sux" and then list wars, and so on.
EDIT: And it's NOT all of Sony fans on Gaf. It's a very select, vocal minority of posters that seem to enjoy posting negative, repetitive comments in every single Xbox related thread instead of talking about things they actually do play or enjoy.

Look at the Game of the Year voting threads. Sony scores consistently higher as a publisher in that thread that Microsoft does. Just like Microsoft is revenue wise consistently above Sony (WW SW sales.)
The replies on this forum where those results originate are going to reflect this.
And if you think every Sony thread is exempt from negative drive-by posts then you haven't read Vita threads in 2012. The companies or informed posters need to change the perception by pointing out facts (not spin) and slowly perception will change.
Just like in 2 years, Xbox will not be shit on any more as a new generation means renewed focus on the core audience that are also early adopters.

Because some people want to see what the competition is doing? I'm pro-sony all the way this generation for many reasons, but that doesn't stop me from posting in this thread. I'm intrigued and I hope MS has something worthwhile for me, but I'm keeping my expectations low.
There are a ton of people in this thread that are so pro-MS it's disgusting. Those claiming "salt", "crow", and the like do not add anything to a discussion. In fact those posts in this very thread about some other random thread has kept me from posting in this thread until tonight. And if those same people show up with their blind fanboyism, I'll head right back out until something intelligent can be discussed.

I'm not saying Playstation related threads are exempt from trolling, and I don't really mind if most people prefer Sony's first-party games to Microsoft's offerings. What I am saying is that when you see trolling ad-nauseum in every Xbox thread, it gets a little disheartening, especially when people are actually trying to talk about things semi-seriously or share their opinions with each other.

It mainly stems from self validation.
For a lot of people, validation comes from not necessarily what their side is doing but more about what the competition isn't doing.
Then they want to further reinforce their belief by continuously highlighting the differences they classify as weaknesses.
You see all the time. Someone will go test drive a bmw and Mercedes for example. They'll buy one and then run around telling the world how the one they didn't buy was lacking and how awesome their selection is.
Gets old and repetitive but it is what it is.

I would agree that there seems to be a bit of a strong Sony fan presence in 720/Durango threads. My favorite ones are the people who feel the need to state they plan on buying a PS4, in an Xbox thread. Like that is some kind of argument. You just don't see Xbots doing that in PS4 threads. Then you have the Sony fans who need to keep things "real" by shooting down any positive prediction or rumor that comes up. It's just needless chatter.
I do understand why they are doing it though. It's pretty clear that this is MS race to lose. Rather than focus on why people should buy a PS4 they try to highlight why they shouldn't buy a 720.

Because those crying "SALT!" and "You'll be eating crow on tuesday!!1!" do nothing but keep rational thought out of a discussion. Not to mention like someone else stated, it creates an Us vs. Them environment. Like I said, I have wanted to come in this thread for quite some time, but the blind faith in MS and all the crap talk of Sony has kept me away until now. All it does it create a giant circle-jerk of a thread.
The overly ambitious imaginations of a pro-ms/pro-sony fanboy are just silly. "OMG MS will obliterate sony!" No one knows, unless there are a lot of really good psychics out there. And if there are, tell me who to invest in please. I need some extra cash to buy all the new systems.
The bolded part is factually untrue. I can name several people in this thread for doing that, but it's silly and juvenile. Trust me it happens in any thread that isn't third-party.
