It's not up to Larry, he can say what he wants but he isn't in charge of that. I do think they will show it though.

Aaron Greenberg and other MS employees tweeted similar.

The way the press reacted MS will not make the same mistake. You can guarantee there will be a picture of the box under every headline.

Anybody think they may introduce wireless charging docks/matts for the new controllers?

I don't think so due to costs. While it would be nice, it adds to the build of materials. About the best I can hope for is Surface team will introduce a "click in" mechanic for the Xbox. I am confident they are involved somehow.

Why is a picture of the box so important to people? The functionality is always more important.

nom nom nom.

now I want my annual deep dish

Man it would have to be annual, don't think my heart could take more than 1 a year.
Bit like this monster.

Deep fried pizza anyone?

What was the last consumer electronic that was announced without actually showing the device?

BBC News called the PS4 'Sony's invisible console' - it absolutely matters.

Sucks the only way I will get a leak is if i go to the bathroom. I can't believe MS was really able to go this long without any substantial leaks. I could always count on their stuff getting leaked.

I haven't read this thread at all but I'll just say that I have no idea what Microsoft plans to do games-wise, or at least in terms of exclusives. I'm not even sure they really HAVE to do much.

The main reason people stick with Xbox today is because they're already invested in Live. Microsoft already brought people into Live so many years ago with Halo, and now it's their primary portal for online gaming, whatever that game may be. The top game on XBL is COD -- a multiplatform game. It's pretty much a given that you'll just transfer that Xbox Live account, Gamerscore, and friends list onto the new console.

I think the real "killer app" will just be a massive upgrade to XBL, whatever that may be. When they unveiled the 360, Microsoft introduced the Gamercard and Gamerscore as the big upgrade to bring people in. They'll probably try to introduce something just as big this time around as the main reason to convince people to upgrade, not any singular game. That alone may be fine for this console until Halo 5 probably comes out next year.

If anything, the onus is on Sony and Nintendo to try to draw people AWAY form XBL. That task is definitely harder than it is for Microsoft to keep XBL consumers.

Friends and account I can take but I wouldn't mind separate gamerscores for the separate consoles (know that's not going to happen) I want to start fresh from 0g.

This ongoing specification discussion is kind of irrelivant for the most part isn't it?

For the most part, due to rising development costs, most games I would expect to be multiplatform, so whatever the weakest machine is, it'll likely hold back the other port of the game on the stronger machine (at least somewhat)

I recall all this shit 8 years ago re: 360 vs PS3 and it ended up the 360 had an easier to code CPU which was slightly slower and the PS3 had a bit faster CPU but ridiculously hard to code for. The GPU on the 360, I always read was a superior piece of hardware.
Before anyone freaks out - look at how it ended up? Best of the best 360 games looked pretty damn good, best of the best PS3 games looked pretty damn good.

I'm FAR more concerned with more significant things - what is the new controller design?
Can people swap in their own hard disks? I'm SICK of HDD performance - SSD or bust, I don't care how much it costs, I'm putting one in my PS3 in a week or so and I intend to put one in my PS4 if I get one.
What about features like remotely turning on? Remotely initiating downloading of games (like the Google play store for Android)
Will the device come with a second video output for no apparent reason (And end up powering illumiroom?)
How quiet is it, how much does it cost, does it still have optical audio out, will it support 3D or 4k (video, not games) does it have HDMI 1.4 or 1.3? etc etc
These things interest me far more than a CPU and GPU - as long as they are 'close enough'

So pretty much no one in this thread cares about anything but the specifications of the cpu and GPU. There is no interest in any other aspect of the console?

The stuff you're talking about is the nitty gritty of the hardware. Of course folks care about it but that stuff is not always immediately obvious.

The rumoured specs indicate it'll have HDMI in and out, and also optical audio. That's pretty much it.

Some things were leaked, you're right.

We still have about two days to go, so we could still see the same thing happen I guess.

Honestly, since I'm not posting on here during the actual conference, I think I'm going to go with a complete internet blackout on the 21st except like Facebook and Netflix just in case there is a leak.

They are idiots, its only a box it does not matter. I much rather see MS first party titles.

Not everyone thinks or agrees with you. Doesn't mean they are idiots. I care about as much as what's under the hood.

They aren't idiots, exterior design can be very important.

It can show us the ports available and the heating solutions and so on.

No to mention at the end of the day you want it to look nice on your TV stand.
