I think that the success of the Nintendo DS is the sole reason for the fall of the jRPG genre.
If jRPG stayed on consoles, you would have seen something completely different.
unreal engine is the ugliest most unappealing/clunky engine that exists today
As I said in another thread
[*]Sony is the reason for why the industry is the way it is, not Microsoft.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is crap and any fan of the series who likes it should feel bad.
So what exactly DO you like?(Cracks fingers) okay!
Bioshock is an average game with mediocre gameplay.
Assassins creed was bastardized after the first.
Dead space is a 6/10 at best.
unreal engine is the ugliest most unappealing/clunky engine that exists today.
Mario.. Lol grow the fuck up people.
Zelda.. I get it but it wasn't for me.
Far cry 3: Blood dragon becomes a tiresome joke.
Skyrim > all elder scrolls.
Kratos is one dimensional.
uncharted 3 is not as bad as people make it out to be.
Mass effect 3's ending wasn't bad.
Arkham Asylym was garbage.
Dante's Inferno was underrated.
Red Dead Redemption was boring.
Now I'm just ranting, but it feels good man.
Could you elaborate on this?
This is especially laughable after today's announcement.
Like hell. I'm not getting hype for a Guilty Gear made with Unreal Engine. I hope ArcSystemWorks will pull it off, but so far, I really haven't played a game with impressive mechanics using that shit unless it came from Epic Games themselves.
That's why everytime I look at the Guilty thread and see all the hype I'm like, "Y'all did notice it said developed with Unreal Engine right?"
To back my point, Asura's Wrath was pretty too.
Why yes I can
I think what Sony did was introduce variety and means for more developers/publishers to get a lot of games out there, even quirky and cartoony ones at that too, nintendo did everything to be labeled the kiddie console with its censorship policies (remember the MK fiasco?) (1) , and other cuestionable practices such as cart licensing and other ridiculous stuff like the Nintendo seal of approval... (2) Sega and the 3do and CDI’s of the time where responsible for the whole fmv and "mature” fad, (3) IMO. Still, you present some valid points I just think you are directing the blame to the wrong camp.
Disregarding all or most of Sony's first party efforts is a bit drastic but if that's needed to prove your point I guess ehh...
So what exactly DO you like?
Walking Dead, Cart Life and other "empathy games" are modern art pieces that have no place in video gaming as I know it. I don't play games to feel sad, I play video games to kick ass and visit amazing worlds.
•Mario.. Lol grow the fuck up people.
I just got this on Steam for $5. Want $10 backEDIT 2: Thought of another one. Burnout Paradise is awful. They took out crash mode, they took out the well designed tracks and forced you to wander around the big city to get to events, which completely destroys the perfect pacing of Burnout 3 and Revenge's campaigns.
Can you get any more specific when it comes to how Unreal Engine directly leads to poor mechanics? It sounds downright spiritual to me.
Like, some examples of UE games and specifically how they would be better on other engines.
Whoa
![]()
Lol but srsly, that's okay if you don't like them and they don't have any place in your gaming, just don't say they don't have a place in gaming period. Cause I kinda like 'em and wouldn't wanna see them go. We play games for different reasons, etc.
Edit: I know that's not what you said, just making sure
I just got this on Steam for $5. Want $10 back![]()
I really, really didn't enjoy the core game, thoughI hadn't bought an EA game since 2006... I do it now in 2013 and just like 7 years ago it's not a good experience.
Also, it reminds me of something else: I despise licensed soundtracks. Having a good OST can sell games to me.
Why yes I can.
The Playstation introduced things in the industry such as cinematic FMVs and it created the JRPG enthusiasts crowd, that at the time was mostly teenagers into things like anime who felt that they had some kind of superior/maturing experience.
Nier is Squaresofts best work ever.
De/Da Souls are better than any Zelda game. As is 3d Dot Heros
NRS Have surpased Capcom in regards to pushing the genre forward.
Max Payne 3 is the best shooter ever made!
Nintendo is nowhere near Sony in terms of game design, being unique, & sheer variety.
def
DOA 5 stands toe to toe with VF 5 and is better than the also great SC V.
Mortal Kombat & Injustice >>>>>> SFIV Marvel vs Capcom 3 & I love SFIV and marvel.
Marvel vs Capcom 3 is great but a pure shit as a competitive game. SF X TEKKEN is better.
Tower defense games are complete shit exceptions PvZ and South Park.
Nintendo other than a few small cases have completely lost their magic & everything that used to make them the greatest. I miss them....
At their arcade prime SEGA was truly the best & far ahead of every game company.
90% of AAA games are boring
FMV was on Sega CD long before PS1.
JRPGs were hugely popular on SNES. FF3, Secret of Evermore, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, etc (US released titles alone.)
The problem with that statement is that despite the JRPG presence on SNES, it fully hit its stride on the PS1. And for real? Earthbound?..... Let's be real. Earthbound was a great game, but no one knew who the fuck Ness was until Smash Bros. happened. If Earthbound did well enough during the SNES era, we would've had Mother 3 and possibly a Mother 4.
andthe majorityall of Sega CD games were garbage. I explained earlier why FMV's where stronger on the PS1. They simply had a greater audience.
What's your favorite Sega CD game? Honestly.
KB/M = Controller, just as good for gaming.
Even though I like Skullgirls and donated to their recent fundraiser, I believe it is now far more interesting as a massive online community fanart project rather than a video game.
There's a difference between hitting it's stride on PS1 for everyone and hitting its stride for you on PS1. Since I'm older, I remember more JRPGs on SNES.
Earthbound continues to be exceptionally popular hence why its even being re-released here in the first place. It didn't sell well back then because it was only bundled with the exceptionally expensive strategy guide with the smelly stickers.
Regardless of how good or bad Sega CD games were, you stated that Sony introduced FMV. I simply corrected your error.
Even though I like Skullgirls and donated to their recent fundraiser, I believe it is now far more interesting as a massive online community fanart project rather than a video game.
Well if I literally said "introduced" which I'll have to check then my bad, but I meant made it popular.
Second of all, I've been gaming my whole life and I'm 22. Started with an NES and a Genesis when I was 3.
Also, you just avoided the point that I made about Earthbound. It took Smash Bros. for anyone to care about that game. That's what happens when crossover games come out. I never was interested in Strider,Captain Commando, and Jin Saotome at first but when I played MVC as a kid, and saw those characters, it inspired me to do research and play Strider/Captain Commando/ Cyberbots. The same thing happened for most people who weren't a Metroid fan to realize Samus was a Woman.
Also sidenote (Canon Dancer > Strider 1+2)
Smash Bros. brought interest to Earthbound. Simple as that.
And yes, the quality of the Sega CD matters because that is really what helps define if that what created the interest in FMV from consumers. The only thing I can think of that was decent on Sega CD was Sonic CD which was still a terrible game with great music, but it had an awesome FMV opening, that probably was the thing that tricked most of it's fans into thinking that garbage was actually a decent game. Along with Metal Sonic.
Other than that. The PS1 was the freaking FMV Titan. FMVs seriously might as well not existed until Saturn/PS1.
And that's it. I have the most controversial, unshared opinions on GAF.
Come at me, bros.
Sonic 2006 should be remade and re-released with better gameplay, and should keep the Sonic x Elise plot.
