If you must masturbate, don't do it in public.

Without breaking it down piece by piece - I'll just say.

It seems highly unlikely that the console will be 'definitely' not as powerful. That implies some substantial power gap that cannot be overcome. I think there's a chance it is ultimately less capable than the PS4 - but I fully expect the specs to be within breathing distance and visa versa - parity will be a given next gen (I think).

Subsidy - hopefully... but hard to say whether it will/can be a 'very big part' given that the subsidy system has not rolled out into other countries - but Live offerings differ substantially region to region. It'll be there in some form - I'm not sure it's going to see the massive push some would expect... but I don't know.

I'm not sure anyone would give a toss if Insomniac announced an exclusive game. Seems hardly worth mentioning to be honest. That's not to say that it's a bad thing - but all things considered - Microsoft have more weight to throw around than - Insomniac registering on the exclusive games side of things.

I guess Insomniac could give them the sort of franchise that has broad appeal but still be considered a 'gamers' title.

MS badly need that sort of thing instead of such a big divide between family/casual and hardcore.

Not expecting them to talk about the price yet anyway, so the subscription subsidy, while a no brainer, isn't relevant for this event.

There's going to be a fair bit of brinksmanship before either of them announce price at E3.

MS has deep pockets, 7000 series GPU is so 2012.
But can you really see it happening?

Microsoft execs all lined up, trying to sell us the future:
"Well, you know, it might only have a 80$ gpu (xmas13 pricing),
But just think about our cloud computing possibilities!"

It just does not compute imo.

ONE DAY LEFT NOW

I'm not sure Insomniac can deliver it anymore. I mean - Ratchet I see, and it's an established franchise.

However everything they've done since is of questionable quality, questionable appeal/commercial-success and has little potential in becoming the kind of franchise that R&C became.

I'll wait until I see whatever they have coming next - but again, I'm not sure anyone but a few Insomniac hardcores would have anything to say about a Durango exclusive.

BOM?

I'm really confused, I hope 21 end with a happy face for Xbox fans/users.

Personally, I think it will, so long as people aren't hopelessly fixated on the wrong thing, which many people I'm sure will be.

MS can always change specs, I think they leaked those specs to make Sony make a console that's gonna be underpowered. MS played them.

Those specs are more than solid enough for next gen games. It's about the developer and their overall ability to make great games with the specs they have been provided with. The specs being more powerful won't somehow make games any better than they would be otherwise. Simply making a game look better is hardly enough. The developer makes the hardware, not the other way around. At least that's how I've always seen it. If developers can't make truly quality games that also happen to look great with a 1.2TFLOPS GPU, then I'd be fairly confident saying that the hardware isn't the problem.

I kinda agree with you regarding Insomniac and the subsidy. Insomniac aren't exactly the crown prince of 3rd party developers. A weak swipe at Sony if intended. I don't think anyone really cares that Insomniac went multiplatform.

The subsidy can't be a major factor for parity across the world market. Some US media and gamers need to realise that the States does not define the world wide gaming market. I can understand why Microsoft will try and safeguard the US as it is the only market where they actually dominate Sony & Nintendo. However if they really want to succeed then the European market must be won over. Three key markets. US/Euro/Asia. MS have the US, Sony have Euro & Asia. Asia & Japan will be a pointless battle, so Europe is vital. This is evident today. Despite the head start to market, and the constant NPD reminders of XBOX outselling the PS3 the two console are more or less neck and neck sales wise. The advantage in the US doesn't outweigh the sales generated by Sony in Europe and Asia. If MS don't push elsewhere, and Sony start to regain further traction in the US then their house of cards will shake.

Where did this Daft Punk at Xbox Reveal thing come from?

People have been saying it throughout this thread and I'm not even sure if its just hype for RAM (I love RAM) overflowing or there's more to it.

Daft Punk at Xbox Reveal would instantly make their press conference better than Sony's.

I agree.

FUSE is just WTF. It's dull and just.... ugly.

I think it's more likely than Rare delivering it at this point though :)

(having said that, for all the bitching about rare, they have probably been more commercially successful with avatars and kinect sports than they have for years)

My predictions...

NAME - Probably Infinity or something.. Loop? All services will be under the XBOX brand now anyway. TV, Music, Streaming etc.

HARDWARE - I'm guessing no changes from the leaked hardware we already know.

KINECT - Packed in. Needs to be plugged in. Much bitching will be had. No, It wont send images of you in your undies to some mysterious Microsoft surveillance room. Not mandatory on games but option is there to use

CONTROLLER - Apart from a few minor tweaks, same as 360.

FEATURES - Cable box. Overlays a full XBOX TV OS on standard tv. Everything controlled thru XBOX while in standby mode. Streaming to mobile devices. SOCIAL MEDIA SOCIAL MEDIA SOCIAL MEDIA.

gT3e36f.jpg

GAMES - Something Halo related. Will show CoD. PGR5 is I'm lucky. BIG WALL OF PARTNER LOGOS. Come back at E3 for all the games.

BITCHING - Kinect. "entertainment and Content".

7000 series can be anything from a card that's one and a half years old to the beasty 7990 that's just about to be released. Anything from 0.1 TFlops to 5.2 TFlops. Realistically based on energy consumption it will be 7850 based, so around 1.7 TFlops.

Yeah Resistance 1 and 2 were the definition if mediocre shooter. Haven't played recent R&Cs though, but I'd be down with Insomniac or any developer making new platformer a though.

FUSE does not inspire confidence.

Wow, even a Sony fan can't do it better... xD

Sure, MS will say "hey, the next gen Xbox is 7000 based, it is not as powerful as the other next gen, but please understand"...

If Durango can't compete with PS4 hardware wise, we'll be hearing only vague expressions such as "8 GB of very fast memory", "truly next gen GPU" with no mention of things like memory type, bandwidth or total system FLOPS.

If Durango is equally or more powerful than PS4 then, logically, they will brag with specs (as they should) and say that "the new Xbox outperforms all competitors and is the single most powerful gaming console ever made".

Remember, if Microsoft fails to go into even basic details about the system, sticking only to vague expression, the rumors (1.2 TFLOPS) are true.

Have y'all read some of this??

http://online.wsj.com/article_email...89710767303392-lMyQjAxMTAzMDEwOTExNDkyWj.html

With the newest Xbox, Microsoft considered some prototypes to integrate an Xbox into a television, two people familiar with the company's plans said. One recent prototype included a plug for a high-definition video signal to be piped into the device, one of the people said.

The goal, another person said, was to make the device connect games more tightly to normal television watching. So if a customer's friend began playing Activision Blizzard's "Call of Duty," for instance, he could challenge the friend to a match, sending an invitation to the TV screen.

Microsoft also designed technology that would allow customers to plug their cable or satellite signal into the Xbox directly, one person familiar with the matter said, allowing people to watch live programming and surf channels while also being able to easily switch over to a videogame or on-demand video with the press of a button.

Microsoft also developed a companion digital-video recording technology, this person added, but has been wary of including it for fear of upsetting existing partnerships.

The prototypes also included a game-streaming service, people familiar with the matter said. That technology, which is offered by companies like OnLive Inc., allows customers to play visually intense games without the need for specialized circuitry. Instead, the game is played in a data center far away, with images and button presses streamed over the Internet.

While Sony bet on streaming technology last year when it agreed to pay $380 million to buy game-streaming company Gaikai Inc., Microsoft has been more measured in its efforts, people familiar with the matter said. Internally, employees debated whether the technology was possible given the cost of building data centers and the technical feasibility of streaming game images reliably to customers with slower Internet connections.

Still, Microsoft has continued developing the technology, other people familiar with the matter said. The company is aiming to potentially use streaming to allow gamers to play older titles made for the Xbox 360 on the newer device.

Microsoft has refined other aspects of the Xbox, other people familiar with the matter have said. Those include specialized glasses, two people familiar with the matter said. One of them noted the glasses are designed to compete with other 3-D gaming glasses, and may have functions that blend images of the real world with that of a game, known as "augmented reality.

The company has also developed a Kinect motion controller that can more precisely see a gamer's body as it moves and more accurately hear what they say. It also will include chips made by Advanced Micro Devices Inc., AMD +6.27%similar to those used by Sony, those people said.

Well - I think the safest bet is to wait until they actually mention the specs in detail - regardless of when. Whether that be in a day, in a month or a day before release - there's little benefit in assuming the worst.

That said - if they're overly vague it'll ring some alarm bells.

& they plan to make them deeper by making a product that's cheaper to make but still produce graphics good enough for the masses.
My friend, microsoft makes its money through MONOPOLY
and they ain't monopoly yet on consoles nor videogames.

They still have to give much if they are stil interested in becoming one on this market. my 2c's.

Pretty sure this is not how deductive reasoning works.

MS doesn't care as much for specs. They care about services because that's what they bank on. Sony is and has always been a company focused around showing others they have the bigger stick and then filling in the gaps later. MS has taken that approach in the past but I don't expect them to spend much time at all, nowhere close to as much time as Sony did discussing specs. They know the mass audience doesn't care. They know people available and watching at that timeslot don't care. They go straight to the end user experience and show that, and that is increasingly the case when it comes to their newer product announcements. I prefer this approach TBH. Like someone else said in this thread earlier, they'll throw up a full PDF for the minority that gives a shit later; same way Sony did.

I say this is a decent theory, can be true, but isn't necessarily true.

if they have upgraded for example, it's probably a good idea to hide that from sony as long as possible, to avoid any counter-counter upgrades (if it's not already too late)

they may not care, but the people that will be watching on Tuesday and the people that will actually pay an inflated price on launch day do.

Announcing a new console and not talking about specs is stupid. They need to address it one way or another or people will make the assumption thats its weaker than the PS4 and thats why they did not mention anything.

Yeah, I think it's getting increasingly likely we know less about the new Xbox than we think we do. There are fragments of what we've heard, but from diverse avenues. I just hope it's for the better.

At least MS considering slower connections points towards likely a less intrusive DRM or no always online DRM at all.

Oh wow, it kinda does. HYPE.

Yet ACiT and R3 were some of the best games on the platform. You are invariably going to get, well, variation when you have a dozen games in a single franchise. Plus, it is in some ways not just about the content it. Having a historically Sony developer out there with an exclusive game is just straight flexing (i.e. here's what we can afford -- no bullshit). And depending on the niche MS wants Insomniac to fill (let's hope it's not MS sci-fi pew pew shootbang #87) -- their game may very well be attractive. I have no reservations in saying a new Insomniac project is more interesting to me than any new Halo, Gears, Forza, or Fable. It wallops near everything else aside from other new IPs and a new Alan Wake.

Yes please. As unlikely as it is, I think Halo would make for a great ARPG.

Thanks. Only 1 day left before we can hopefully put all this spec garbage BS behind us.

If they can capture the range of emotions from Halo 1 it would be amazing...

Isolation, fear, wonder, desperation.

Shit me. You could just totally take the MASS EFFECT framework - make UNSC Infinity the Hub and go around the galaxy, visiting human colonies, forerunner installations, convent worlds.... it could be fucking AMAZING.

Spartan as the lead character, team of ODST specialists for the battle party, and a UNSC smart ai running the inventory screens and general game flow.

Serin Osman would dish out the missions:
Osmen.png

And following the last Spartan Ops, Catherine Halsey the Antagonist:

The plot would be a chase across the galaxy to find Catherine and the Forerunner tech she now has access to. Toward the end of the game you uncover a scrambled signal - Cortana (!?) - the perfect segway into Halo 5. Damn, you could even simply play as Kilo Five from the Novels and be on covert missions from the Port Stanley.

EDIT: you could also have Reach-style dog fights outside of Infinity.

Just give me something like that to immerse myself in the universe.

I am 100% convinced there will be SOMETHING from Halo at launch. MS won't go into this make or break battle without their biggest IP driving sales.

& that's why they are not going for the console market they are going for the all in one Multimedia Computer Entertainment device market.

& if kinect/voice command can become the next KB/M , touchscreen or Remote control they will be able to sell this product to way more people than they could a video game console.

Again, minority. And people who buy on launch aren't necessarily spec fiends. They will look at the games they want to play, and buy based on those. Graphics matter a LOT, but if they're within a reasonable range of each other (read: not Wii U), they'll sell based on a whole bunch of other factors. Your average Joe that still goes to a midnight launch or gets his new fancy gaming toy in launch window doesn't count pixels.

Again, this past gen has showed graphics aren't everything to bank on, nor is power. People will buy the console at launch with the games they want to play. Be it Oblivion on 360, or Wii Sports on Wii.

Are you being serious or just playing along?

Inflated price? For a console?

Why can Sony change specs but not MS? MS has alot of money, they can wait until the last minute to change their specs. People want Xbox to be less powerful because they're fanboys. MS always uses hardware a generation ahead of what's on the market. People think MS would use a 7770 based GPU? Less powerful hardware than Sony? haha, so funny!

you being ironic but i think a company with deep pockets like ms ...can do lots LOTS of r&d (as they did) and stay on track with different setup ready for everything..

the choosing of last min could push the mass production of 2 3 months....not 1 year.. ..and nothing change in 2 3 months

Nah that's Wars. ODST's campaign is traditional Halo set in a sandbox, but it features a new team with quite a lot of personality between them and character development to boot. Noir setting with lots of atmosphere helps.

To be honest, I could hardly tell them apart, except for the girl and the Natahan Fillion character.

But there are characters with personality in the Halo universe, especially after Halo 4 and Spartan Ops, and they could always come up with some new faces, human or otherwise. I would actually prefer that, I'd love to play a normal person with no special powers or military background, somebody that doesn't use guns at all. Think Clive Owen's character in Children of Men and how they deliberately made him not pick up a single gun over the course of the entire film. There are plenty of different stories that could be told within the universe, it doesn't all have to be "Oooh, aliens! Shoot!"

Anyway, ONE DAY!
