"It's like The Sims-lite"

I am tempted to go and read everything there is to Animal Crossing in a Wiki but on the other hand i want to experience it as new as possible.
I am feeling very uninformed in front of all you seasoned Animal Crossing players haha
I've been keeping up with it for a long while, but even I think it'll be fresh to me. I've kept from seeing most major holidays and I've seen very little English footage so far.

You can place them pretty much anywhere. However, Isabelle is a bit picky, so you can't place them too close to something else. But otherwise, you're free to put them whenever.

Awesome! This just makes the wait more excruciating. I took a brief look at the public works projects and there are so many options.

Thanks, I'm an idiot.

Anyway, so what is the objective when you visit peoples village? Are you supposed to help them out, raid them, grow plants, something else?

There's no real objective, you can do any of the things you said and more. Think of when you go to your friends' places in real life. Why do you go there? Just to have fun doing whatever! It's the same in AC except with interweb friends.

Use their shop, mess around, create meta games, have a chat, steal their villagers, chop their trees.

Actually, not the trees. That's a faux pas right there.

Lots to do! Like going to the island and play some of the many games!

Or participate in the local fishing tourney or Bug Off contest. Or see who can catch a certain fish or bug first.

Or put pitfalls everywhere and watch your friends fall into them! Mwhahaha!

All you guys have made my really hyped for New Leaf now, before I was just gonna buy it and expect nothing, now I expect great things :(

Steal their shit. They don't want it anyway.
So if you take stuff from someones village, does it permanently disappear or do you just get a duplicate of it?

Sounds good. Anyone can feel free to raid my village and take everything they want.

Does fruit still work in the same way? Grow apples to sell, plant seeds from other villages (lemons etc) in yours and they're worth more?

Yeah. This time, there's perfect fruit though, which can only come from planting native fruit in your own town. It's worth even more.

I'm half tempted to buy a used copy of City Folk or something, just to get some kind of fix in before New Leaf. Don't know where my DS copy of WW went.

Though at least holding off will make me more hype to run around and do all of the things.

Well... its either you're a fan of the series or not. I know I was since Wild World.

I still vividly remember fishing for dozens of hours and storing all the fish in my cellar on the GC that that I played in the middle of the night on my super small TV.

To be fair, most of the things you can do at a friend's house are not things you can do in Animal Crossing, or if so they are not as entertaining at all (watching TV for example).

In fact there is very little to do in someone else's town. Basically you do it to check out what's available in their store, sell turnips if prices are high, or take fruit that you don't already have.

You can fish with them, but if you're both on screen you'll probably be competing for the same fish. You can catch bugs with them, but that's assuming any bugs are around. You can run in circles and play grabass and lay some Pitfall traps for the heck of it if it doesn't annoy them and make them ban you from their exhaustively-planned village.

You can make your own fun by setting some impromptu rules for a fishing contest or something, but I really wish the game provided mechanisms to deal with that sort of thing officially and on your own terms. I don't want to have to wait for fishing contest day. I want to talk to an NPC and tell him to start a 10 minute contest for largest fish and the winner gets something unique that isn't normally available. Or a 10 minute digging contest with a golden bone hidden somewhere in the village for someone to find. Or a bug hunting contest where there are guaranteed to be 5 contest bugs scattered around town for people to catch.

EDIT: I have no idea what is going on.

Time to draw and spam everyone with some spwanotes before going to bed !
My drawing skills are getting better with every Pic i draw i love nintendo for that

I played the GC City Folk AFTER WW so that game didn't leave enough room for me to have a better impression.

But yeah, I hear you. I remember being so glad to get all of the fossils, fish, flowers and most bugs in WW. As for bugs, I was missing the Mole Cricket because I'm deaf and I can't hear it chirping. There's another bug I missed... I think it was the ant.

God, Let's Go (City Folk to you lot) isn't all that fun when you played Wild World to death like I did.

Same here.

But the advice I see is that I need to try it for myself, and now I'm looking foward to it I dread that I'll buy it and not like it.

That's really unlikly though because I seem to like all games, just some less than others, I don't think I've ever played a game that most people like but I hated it or even disliked it.

Haha... I haven't pitfalled anyone in ages.

Do you enjoy farming games? I don't mean necessarily Harvest Moon types but open ended goal oriented games?

I love Minecraft and the Sims, the only part about the Sims I don't like is having to go and meet with friends or something otherwise they would get depressed.

So yeah, I enjoy open ended games if they're done right but I've never played harvest moon.

Wait can you decorate your own room like that or is that an already furnished room that you cant change ?

You can make your room look like that.

Or
one of the four customisable museum rooms on the second floor that you can open for your own displays
!

Yes! You can choose to make one when making a hat design.

ALSO, Reluctant-Hero, your FC is invalid on the spreadsheet.

Woo! I loved the simplicity of the designs in GC. Also, how do the designs look, like on t-shirts? I remember on DS they looked rather pixellated, though I thought that was to do with the DS's limitations.

Of course not but I just wanted to point out how there's no real set path or anything, as it is in real life.
And re: things to do at other towns: that's why the added the new multiplayer island thingy.

Okay. Don't call this game Sim-Lite. That'd be... TERRIBLE.

But there's a similar take with your neighbors if you don't talk to them enough they won't stick around long. You don't necessarily need to TALK to them or anything, they don't get UPSET lol outside of their script of course. And if you don't tend to your game daily, you'll get weeds growing all over the place. In WW, we get cockroaches inside the house if we neglected the game after two weeks I believe. You need to know that this game is played in real time. Like your real time in the world. It'll be night time in game like its night time in real life.

You can time travel by setting your DS clock but Resetti won't like that at all and berate you into a very long conversation about how WRONG AND BAD it is lol.

The hook of this game is that you can "tend" to it daily just for a hour after you get your majority of passionate activities down (got most of the fish/bugs for the season and fossils per a day), you retort to going to the shops and see what's new and update your house and clothes or whatever you like. But yeah, this game rolls in REAL time, so you cannot get all of the fish or bugs until they're in season. Hence... "farming". So I hope this helps you know what you're getting into.

I spent a year and a half (IN REAL TIME) in WW just to get EVERYTHING. And I don't regret it one bit. The charm, the relaxing music, the cuteness of characters and design as well as the simple fun gameplay was the main draw for me outside of the "hook". :) Random surprises are always great too. A present from a random flying balloon or an UFO for instance lol.

You can make stuff like this:

So I'd say they look pretty good! Customizable palletes this time, no need to stick to a premade one.
