The vast majority of big game reveals will be saved for June 10th. This is a media spectacle to show off the new Xbox, give it a name, show a little of what it can do and refuel the hype train, destination E3.

As I said, you could see a new IP or two teased in a reel, but this event is not designed around games, in contrast to E3 (as Aaron and Larry have stated)

Yeah, don't see why not, reveal the hardware with one stunning looking new I.P that gets everybody talking - it's a good way to expose something brand new which will be used to push systems in future outside of E3 where lots and lots of games are fighting for that same exposure.

Maybe I am being optimistic, I just think it'll be pretty underwhelming to show only Call of Duty as a trump card - it doesn't really sell Microsoft's own vision for the platform.

I don't know why continental Europe likes playstation. It's certainly not because of Sony first party software outside of GT, which obviously has nothing to do with Harrison.

Correct. Why should they care what the hardcore gamer thinks about them today when E3 is right around the corner. The mass media doesn't attend E3, but they are looking today. They better spend the time to wow them with features and big franchises, maybe disappoint the hardcore gamer in the process and win them back easily just two weeks later with a lot of new IPs.

It's the only way a reveal this close to E3 makes sense. Why make two conferences for the same audience when you can get both?
 
So i just thought of something, maybe it's been talked about earlier on in this thread, but :

That Samirtan demo, was that only a tech-demo or did Epic make that in to a game - if so, maybe that could be a reveal for tonights show and it being an exclusive for the new Xbox.

Speculations are running wild at this point..

But this is a product unveiling and Microsoft will treat it as such. We'll see a few games but the majority will be at E3 which just so happens to be a games convention and only 3 weeks away. :P

Actually E3 is the place for what you are proposing. Especially given the capacity, attention and intention of both events. I do not preclude a possibility of new IP being unveiled today, I don't expect it to be honest, but those are best left for E3 as it is a more game centric show. Sony did not show any new IP of note, Knack and the game from Braid dev is not what I consider major and I am sure you don't.

Expect both companies to unveil their heavy hitters at E3.

There's no chance they will show only Call of Duty.

I think they'll have demonstrations using big, known franchises that cover multiple genres so as to get the most media coverage about the new Xbox within the context of popular IP.
 
If MS doesn't have something that can graphiclaly outmuscle what sony showed, how bad would that be for this presentation + E3?

I didn't say they'd show only CoD, but it's obvious that's what they're using to build buzz, they'll probably show it at the end.

You're being overly optimistic and will be disappointed. Better to keep your expectations tempered.

As I said, they've told us what to expect from this and games isn't one of those things. They are unveiling the product today, nothing more and nothing less. Actually there will be more, but it'll be nothing more than cock tease. The point of today is to give the mainstream media a product to talk about.

The fact that gamers want new IPs isn't lost on Microsoft, hence Aaron Greenberg intentionally stressing that E3 would be ALL about games. I don't know about you, but if they must do the services, the Kinect and the pomp and circumstance, then do it now and give me an E3 of legendary proportions that leaves a lasting impression to carry me to release.

Probably depends who you talk to. If you talk to SonyGAF it's the end of the Xbox brand. If you talk to anyone else so long as they're close it won't matter.

Most rumors lately point toward an XBox360 Soc for background activity, would mean full BC out of the box, right?

Think that's more likely than hooking up Mini/Current 360 for BC.

Xbox never really happened here in Germany at least. It's just kind of expected for the most part to buy a PS console and to play FIFA with the DS. Also all of my friends really hate Live.

Sony also has a way bigger presence here than MS with the Sony Center etc.
It's kind of a traditional thing maybe. Traditions rarely change here. I gladly got a PS3 at launch without thinking twice just to be part of the club.

Well games should look great considering the bump in horsepower when compared to the 360, if we can get games that look as good as Gears Judgment, Metro Last Light & Tomb Raider on 8 year old hardware I'm sure that we're gonna see some amazing stuff on Durango even if the 1.2tflops rumors are true. :)
