Just watched the pilot again for the first in 2 years lol everyone was sooo much younger.. GODDAMN Dany smh she is perfect @_@
You could really see the show had no money but they still did a amazing job with costumes... Shame they didnt stick with the score its like there is no more music in the new episodes.. really looking forward to watching all the episodes again..

I think Samwell is one of those characters who's gonna be around FOREVER

Yeah. There's no reason for his storyline to exist if he dies, unfortunately. He's the guy that discovers what can kill the White Walkers, so he has to relay that message so everyone can know. He's probably also going to be Jon's wakeup call when he raids castle black. If they get there and he's thinking of killing his own for the pussy, Sam's job is to ground him. He's like Sam from LotR!

Yeah but I'm asking if the one at the end of S2 is the same guy that Sam stabbed. Others have suggested they probably all look like that. Why? Are they clones or something? Is there a huge ice cube tray pumping them out somewhere? :p

I think it was the same guy/actor using the same prosthetics. I think it's fine. This is such a costly show, anyway to save money is great.

In fact, I wish they'd stop showing us dragons. I know, I know they are REALLY important, but that scene a few weeks ago with all three dragons in the tent probably cost more in terms of CGI work needed, than perhaps the filming of entire new 2-3 minute scene.

They can't skimp on the dragons either, so everyone they show them, they look meticulously detailed and sharp. It's great, but you can see the money could be used at other parts.

On an unrelated note, that tree with the ravens, it's the same one that they show in Winterfell. Red leaves with a face. I just saw the episode again. Does this tie into Bran? How many of these trees are there? And is this where the three eyed raven lives north of the wall because there were so many ravens there. I knew there had to be a reason they kept showing Winterfell and this tree in the opening credits, despite nothing happening.

I feel its already been made obvious that Jon Snow is still fighting/working for the Nights Watch.

Something that I didn't understand: when Theon takes over Winterfell, in the end he's sitting in his room and the Maestor tells him that the keep is surrounded by 500 Stark troops. Then in the morning Theon makes his speach and is taken away by his soldiers.

What happened to the Stark troops that Rob sent? They simple left? And how'd Theons troops escape?

It's a Heart Tree, a weirwood tree. It ties into the Old Gods, the religion of the North. Jon gave his vows when he joined the Nights Watch under one in S1.
There used to be a Heart Tree in every castle, but when the Andals came and brought the Faith of the Seven with them, most of the Heart Trees in the South got burned down.

It's not flat out stated, but you can infer what's happened if you look closely and have watched the background info dumps on the disc extras.

The tree is a Weirwood and a Weirwood with the face carved into it is known as a Heart tree, which is place of signifance for the religion of the Old Gods.

edit: Beaten like Theon

I don't have the discs, can you enlighten me?

In any case, that tree was fucking creepy. There's no way in hell I'd ever stay in a broken and burnt out old cabin with a creepy tree face looking at it. Amazing scene though, the atmosphere was great.

Wow great episode. Lots of trills and surprises.

Stannis still the same boring old fuck, just die already. To be fair he showed slight more emotion that usual, but not much.

Tyrion and Shea great together as usual and so awkward with Sansa. If/When Tywin kicks the bucket the Lannisters and going to tear themselves apart. Joffery vs Tyrion is first up.

Dany kicking ass as usual. Nice to see even more soldiers in her ever increasing army. She'll soon have more solders than all the others put together.

And good old Sam Ganges, nice job, but you left the FUCKING MAGIC DAGGER on the ground!!!
Idiot.

I remember Stannis was off doing something before S1/S2 and it was mentioned. Fighting a war or something, where was that?

I'm up to Ep 5, and so far it's awesome. I don't like how they introduced the hound so soon though, in the book it's revealed as a twist and has a big build up.

Please keep book discussion out of this thread. In fact, since you've read this book, it would be best if you went to the tagged-spoilers thread for discussion, since we are fully paranoid about spoilers.

"Other than Jon..." :lol

Jaime is a member of the Kingsguard and is thus forbidden from owning land or taking a wife. Just FYI.

Didn't barristan selmy get offered lands etc. upon his dismissal from the kingsguard by joffrey? Given that Jaime is lacking a hand and can't fight, I can see grounds for a dismissal and tywin taking the opportunity to marry him off somewhere.

Service in the Kingsguard is supposed to be for life. Ser Grandpa was the first one to get dismissed.

The Kingsguard is for life. But Joffers can change that if you want

supposed to be, sure. But they're also not supposed to kill the king, and selmy got dismissed. extraordinary circumstances and all that.

If him killing Aerys mattered in this case, he wouldn't have be on the Baratheon Kingsguard. Selmy got dismissed only because Joffrey is a twat who doesn't give a fuck about the rules. Not to mention Cersei pushing him to dismiss Selmy.

I wonder if Joffrey has any degree of respect for Jaime.

He seemed to confess he knew he was a Lannister and not a Baratheon after his talk with Sansa in the last episode.

His mom is a Lannister, thus he is a Lannister, I don't think he knows he is the product of inbreeding.

They referred to him as "Joffrey Baratheon of House Baratheon and House Lannister" or something like that before.

Also, Joffrey and Jaime were both at the same place when they arrived at Winterfell in the first episode. I don't remember any other scenes, Jaime's been away from King's Landing for almost two seasons now.

Sure he does. He taunted his mom with that rumor, and then had all the other bastards of Robert killed.

Yeah I think he believes it at this point too, which is why he tried to get rid of any bastard of Robert who may one day legitimize and have a claim to the throne or something.

Stannis sent letters and ravens to everyone with this, and so I'm sure every highborn or lord in the seven kingdoms got the letter.

This brings up a weird point; does Jaime give a shit about his kids? Like he's actually a father despite it supposed to be secret but they've never once showed him give a seconds thought about his children.

Hard to say, since we really haven't had a chance to ever see them interact. And even outside of that we really don't see any of them that much outside of Joffrey

I like how this is completely ignored four posts below:

Jon is a good character... Especially for book readers

Man, book readers seriously just cannot stop themselves.

Even little comments like that give away things.

Reading GoT threads on the internet has been an interesting learning experience about psychology. The thread title could literally say "YOU WILL BE PERMABANNED IF YOU MENTION THE BOOKS, DO NOT CLICK THIS THREAD IF YOU'VE READ THE BOOKS" and book readers will still click and post.

Almost...a sort of arrogance, like "I'm not like those other guys, I won't make any casual spoiler comments oops I just did well they just need to get over it."

What terrible people.

It goes two ways. There is a difference between "No book spoilers" and the witchhunt for bookreaders that seems to have started. I won't post here, despite some very cool discussions I would like to participate in, because I have read the books. I love to speculate myself and it is one of the best things ever to think how things will play out and I do not want to ruin this for anyone.

But over the last two years the book and the show have very much grown apart in many instances and the itch is there to ask and discuss certain issues with people that have no idea where things go, because of those differences. And thus questions are itching on the back of my head, how certain people are viewed by viewers compared to readers.
And the marked spoiler thread is no good, because nearly every page spoils some small things and therfore is nearly exclusive to book readers currently.

So I lurk here, because this thread is seriously awesome in many instances! (Not daring to post)

But you just posted...

You MONSTER!

But seriously, I haven't read the books and even I'm scared to post in here, because the one time I randomly get something right that isn't obvious, I'm afraid someone is going to try to call me out, which would in turn actually spoil something for me...

Saying Jon is a good character especially for book readers is not ruining anything.
Sure it does. It implies a "just wait until you see what he does later" tone. A lot of us don't know what'll happen on a show where anything can happen.

And if it's a "you should have seen how this already viewed scene played out in the book". Take that to the book comparison thread.

There's two other active threads for people who have read the books, though?

Why do book readers HAVE to post in this one? Even if you are a good hearted book reader, and I know there are many, you'd think one would realize they will inevitably give away their future knowledge, even by accident. It's just respectful and kind to simply not post here--especially as there's two other places to do so.

Is the personal pleasure from speculating alongside ignorant people truly worth the possibility of wrecking the enjoyment of others? Seems a little bit selfish.

Don't you guys get stressed out having the same debate and arguments every single day? Is it really worth it for tiny things like posts comparing the show to the books that don't even spoil much if anything at all?

Sure it does. It implies a "just wait until you see what he does later" tone. A lot of us don't know what'll happen on a show where anything can happen.

No, it doesn't. Jon is a better character in the book at this point in the series because in the book he's not portrayed by Kit Harrington and we see things unfold through his perspective. That guy said he thought Jon was a good character, that's it. Quit looking for shit to cry about.

Don't worry. We discuss it under spoiler tags in the other thread or PM a mod directly if blatant enough so your virgin minds aren't deflowered.
