Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Collector's Edition revealed, releasing August 27th

i felt like the blink tank spin on Ninja was very possible in the original vision of FFXIV. the focus on classes had a lot of flexibility. they've gone and sanitized the classes down into a focus on jobs now. if we do get NIN, it'll probably be quite a bit different than you remember it. a straight up blink tank would probably be very boring with hot bar gameplay.

I don't even care if I can't blink tank, I just wanna be able to look like a boss. NIN is so stylin

A couple quick questions from this on people who played the beta.

1) In your opinion, if I played this on PS3 instead of PC, how hampered would I be? In FFXI, PS2 and XBox players were severely handicapped compared to PC players who had access to better status updates, UI changes, and full equipment swap macros using something called windower.

2) Can I play casually in a "solo" capacity? (i.e. I don't have time to form a party and just want to jump in, get some good experience points or do some quests, then log out). I don't have the same kind of time to play an MMORPG in the standard MMO way.

im sure the next round of jobs will have something thief, ninja, or assassin-y, there is a big hole in the lineup right now of guys who can attack quick

where is the dragoon pet to heal me

No need since potions and exlixirs are actually affordable now :P

Honestly I want to see how the Arcanist class and Summoner job work. And if they'll have smaller spirit forms emanating from some space behind them, somewhat like the concept art.

EDIT: And I still want a greatsword wielding Dark Knight job.

That is one helluva box... I feel like I need this...

A Tour of Eorzea, Part 2 was fantastic as well!

Also, isn't the UI (PC-version at least) fully customizable? I remember being able to switch the place of almost everything.

Correct. I remember a whiiiiiile back they mentioned that UI elements would be transformable (resize-able). At some point after launch they will also allow the use of add-ons for the community to further customize the interface to their liking.

1) Other than framerate not at all. The new armoury system makes switching gear instant. The gamepad UI is fantastic.

2) 1-50 is very soloable. FATEs are casual group content that do not require forming parties. The new duty finder is like matchmaking for the dungeons. There will be lots of casual content.

this sounds good. i hated the fact that FFXI discouraged addons. they have nothing to gain by restricting that aspect of their games.

I want the CE goods, pre-order items and PS3 trophies... but am not terribly thrilled at the prospect of putting another $80 down.

The PS4 version seems all-but assured, too. So I'd have to have to then want to pick that up, as well.

One thing for sure is no matter how many times SE fuck up they will still find ways to get money from you :S

This ain't FFXI.

GMG changed the price from 59.99 to 49.99 for the Digital collectors edition if anyone is interested...

Using GMG20-LLASD-D8WBQ knocks it down to 40~ :P

Trust me, as a Dragoon main in FFXI, you do not want a pet dragon in this game. Hybrid classes suck compared to the main classes in FFXI, and any time they get any good they get nerfed. You want to be the one that's doing damage, not trying to pick up slack with minimal attack boosts because you have a dragon that a friggin' Dunsparce would be able to beat up.

Not so much hybrid classes, pet classes. Yet people wanted Summoner like nothing else. Well, we will see how it turns out.

I wasn't being too serious, though the mini wyvern was a great part of that class' identity. And I was a sam forever in xi..I know what it is to suck..going rdm was my declaration of defeat.

For those in the UK, is anywhere currently offering the collector's edition (PS3) cheaper than ShopTo for £54.85?

Also, in regards to ShopTo, I've pre-ordered, but haven't paid yet (incase the price goes down), will I be entitled to the early access or do I have to go through with payment?

Maybe the Wyvern will come back as a vanity pet? Like Cait Sith and the baby behemoth.

Zavvi with a 10% off code is cheaper, or you could just put the link on Flubit, but I don't recommend doing that.

I'm ready for this! Pretty funny my PS3 will end up being my Square Enix box just like my PS2 at the end of last gen.

I was playing FF12 right around when the PS3 came out. This time it will be FFXIV and Kingdom Hearts. :)

And this is the first time in the entire generation, since PS1/2 days, that SE is releasing 2 games on PS3 in the same year and close to each other. This is what kept sales up and $ in their pocket. Fools.

The boxart gets me reminiscent of Final Fantasy XII's Gabranth.

And I hope the rumours are true that this game sort of plays like XII, just online.

I don't know if I can get excited for this, a Final Fantasy that is predominantely player driven instead of story driven sounds kind of like a drag.

Well, I wouldn't say it plays like FF12, but it's very reminiscent of it in a lot of ways (mainly UI, thanks to Minagawa's awesome work).
There will also be something similar to gambits when they introduce the "buddy" system.

It's still very story driven, SE MMO's aren't like generic MMO's when it comes to story telling.

Why am I considering this?

I just want the artbook, SE. I gave you money for your shitty version 1.0 CE, I don't want to give you more. Just sell the artbook separately. :(

Wait, so, I had a thought...

I bought a 9.99 digital copy of 1.0 in a sale some time back. I regged it, made an account and have beta access to XIV 2.0 through that.

If I buy the PS3 CE, I can link that to my existing account, is that right? And then use the digital items it comes with on both PC and PS3...

I'm trying to think of a way to get the CE through amazon since I'd prefer to use them instead of the SE store

Is this a good plan?

can't find it either, only thing I see is Code registration currently unavailable in the FF14 service page.

You can't register the game now as they have deactivated that part of the account page.

You will need to wait until closer to launch I assume.

Yup this will work.

I'm going to have to do everything in my power to prevent myself from buying into the hype and getting another MMO I don't have time for at launch.

I hope they fixed this properly, though. I want a game named Final Fantasy XIV to be respectable.

I'm trusting you! Ordered :D :D :D I have no intention of actually playing the PS3 version, I just want all the physical and digital goodies
