Gamestop and bestbuy. Same deal. Choice is not mine anyway. Is Gamestop confirmed to be the only retailer in the reseller program?

Meh, ever since the ACCC caved on blu ray region coding, and called the PS3 a computer so it didn't have to be region free for dvd's I have no faith in the enforcement powers of the government.
fuck this. Games like xenoblade will be impossible to buy and very expensive!
looks like a retailer win, publisher win, developer win, MS win, customer win? what is the problem? you can always sell your used game to Gamestop
so EDI, well that shit aint cheap and yep gamestop probably already has it but you can kiss any indies goodbye
Retailers will be free to charge whatever they wish for pre-owned Xbox One games, but both Microsoft and publishers will take a percentage cut of every sale.
Sure. But it doesn't really affect me does it so blanket anti consumer statements offends me.

You think Gamestop is giving up their profit? Where do you think everyone's cut is going to come from? Hint. Not them. It's going to come from your cut.
You think games will be cheaper? What gave you that indication? You will be very very disappointed buddy.
this toughest law ever was not in place back then. Its been in since 2011.
I have seen retail lawyers literally quiver in fear at how strong this law is and the fines around it
Did you read the article?
.
First, selling privately is no small matter. Second, we have yet to see how many retailers would implement this system.Presumably Amazon too?
So really nothing changed there from a retailer perspective. Main difference you can't sell privately.
Then you realize how this affects people and why they're angry with this. "Anti-consumer" are just words, many people on Gaf have voiced their concern without resorting to these words.
Elephant in the room is region coding. The systems won't region code because it won't matter, the cloud will do it for them
EU Codes -> EU Server
US Codes -> US Server
i guaranfuckingtee if you import a game it won't activate.
So what? Who lends £40 discs to get scratched to fuck anyway?
So basically there is no way to sell games on ebay or craigslist either?
yep and when it goes wrong you have the right to a refund
http://www.choice.com.au/blog/2013/april/how-to-get-a-refund-on-sim-city.aspx
have you not read about people contacting steam, quoting the Aussie law and getting refunds within 24 hours?
The Australian law on this stops for no one. I have seen major companies be smacked down hard by it.
No renting
Let me clear this up for you. They won't be.Not saying they will be. But that they should be, if this model is proposed.
This is a better system then steam if you ask me unless you can sell back games to valve?
My biggest question is will they compete against steam with nice cheap offerings 3~4 times a year. Still think they need to increase the timer for offline to like 2~3 days.
but they have to cater for refunds
so each store that sells xbone in aus will need to have this fucking system. People like gamesmen.com.au are likely fucked (if the dev costs are high)
EB domination goes even further.
it all depends if the Azure used game system is cheap
This has probably been covered already, but this basically results in consumers getting fucked right? Either the person selling the game back to retail gets less money in return for his game, or used games are going to cost more. I don't see retailers being the ones to take the hit here on money going to publisher and microsoft. It also fucks those who avoid shit trade in prices. If I'm going to sell my games it's going to be to actual gamers. I don't see why I should have to use a greedy middle man. Places like neogaf's buy/sell/trade is the only way to go imo. I really don't see why anyone would be happy with even more greedy assholes clawing money off of them. This truly is the games industry in a nutshell right now, corporations nickel & dimming you at every turn.

First, selling privately is no small matter. Second, we have yet to see how many retailers would implement this system.
So this basically ensure re-sellers like GamesStop will low-ball you for games you turn in, but charge you top dollar for used games you want to buy since there is no longer competition from Amazon and Ebay.
When I consider that less than 10% of the games I bought on their respective launch days during this last gen were actually worth full price, I have to wonder who is behind this new DRM future. MS gains little from this new system financially, but they have lost a ton of consumer support. Tells me there are more forces at play here and it likely involves the likes of EA and Activision.
Sadly this type of greediness is what attracts hackers. It's a vicious cycle I guess![]()
from what I understand, the buyer has to have access to the Azure thingy so he can deactivate the disc that is registered to your profile
Did you?
Microsoft is using Azure to control all this. Thats their cloud platform.
Somehow the POS systems @ stores will need to link in this to deactivate and unlock codes from the discs.
So the retail POS systems require development work
obviously custom software....
This totally fucks over people in countries where there are no retailers who deal in 2nd hand games and/or partner with Microsoft.
Fuck this.
Fuck Microsoft with a blunt spoon.
Stop comparing it to steam. I can't hand my friend a game that I straight downloaded to my computer. Just like people aren't mad that they can't resell their digitally downloaded games on 360/PS3. No one is pissed that they can't lend their friends Castle Crashers or Braid. But when I purchase physical media I expect to be able to let anyone I know use it. In fact, it's one of the specific reasons I prefer physical discs. This is a better system then steam if you ask me unless you can sell back games to valve?
