Retailers win
MS wins
Consumers lose
Because digitally downloading games is already available on 360 and the sales they do have are usually laughable. There's no reason to assume that will change.Who says there will be no sales for the Xbone? Are all games going to be full release price from now until the servers sunset? i doubt that very much. Also new games on Steam cost full price.. Bioshock Infiinite is currently $59.99 on Steam.
Nope, that's where the EU's going to step in (and why people proclaiming "this will reduce game prices!" are delusional).
...how else do you control a system where you have a disc but you dont need the disc to play the game? Without some sort of DRM you have to have disc in tray for every game and fast game switching is impossible or one eiac gets bought and 100000 people could play off one purchase.

Can you sell games back to Steam now?
im opposed to both. i just find it funny that there is this huge uproar because Microsoft is doing it but on PC Valve gets showered with praise for doing essentially the same thing. People threatening to go PC only because of the Xbone? lol
PC Games are cheap as hell. You can even get release day games for 10+ dollars off...sometimes 50% off the console price if you know where to look. Thats why Steam mostly gets a free pass here. We dont mind not being able to sell our PC games when we are already paying used game prices for them.
Nope, that's where the EU's going to step in .
Can you sell your iOS apps? Can you sell your Steam games? Not going to make a judgement as to whether that's 'right' or not, just that if the EU CC hasn't come down on those two prime, existing examples then why would they on this?
I dont know about that.. we will have to see them nextgen EULA's first..
So, I assume that you can't just give away a game for free either? There has to be money involved in the transfer involving MS and a used game store?

Microsoft have pissed me off no end with all this but this compramise doesn't sound THAT bad to be honest, in fact its not much different to it is now really for the consumer side.
ok, there are dozens of "you" but guess what.. there are >100 milion of "us"
so that should put things into perspective.

You are giving me no reason why this should happen except for that they can and want to. It's not to my benefit and if you believe so strongly that this is a good thing we should do it with all our entertainment. if you sell your I ron man Blu-Ray Disney should get some money again right? I am pretty sure Sony has created a patent a while ago that would allow this.
These are not sold at retail stores. Thats a key difference.
I actually don't think many people give a flying fuck about having to put the disc in. I sure don't
All games are going to be release price forever on the Xbone? i doubt that. Below $10, who knows? i do know that any new release on Steam that isnt an indie title is not going for under $10.I'm not blind enough to find Steam the end all sanctuary for PC gaming, but I use it because I can get games for less than $10, frequently less than a year after it's been released.
Let's see that happen with the XBone. (Hint: It won't.)
Here's the thing that bugs me. What is the $35 fee for? I'd understand it if publishers got nothing from GameStop but apparently they get the majority of the price that the used game gets from a sale. That means the rest is a "mystery tax" that's unaccounted for.
No, but I've seen them go for as much as half off. And Boarderlands 2 came out last year and was on sale for $7 on steam last weekend. Boarderlands 2 is never going that low on 360.All games are going to be release price forever on the Xbone? i doubt that. Below $10, who knows? i do know that any new release on Steam that isnt and indie title is not going for under $10.

Can't be traded or resold after use. Sold in retail stores. Not against the law.
I can buy Steam games in retail. GAME has a huge section for them now, and they are just as expensive as other platform's games...These are not sold at retail stores. Thats a key difference.
I don't think it's a good thing. We both agree that it's not, but IF we have to live under this draconian used game rules, then I'd rather see developer get some benefit rather than Microsoft. They should get fuck all. So what if they are supplying the infrastructure, no wanted want them to int he first place and they should eat the costs for doing so. But that wont' happen because they only reason they are doing this is to make more money for themselves.

Gifting is just buying a copy and sending it to another person on Steam. If you can trade now on Steam thats news to me.
Why do people keep pretending like no one has any problems with Steam. And why do people keep pretending like this console will have sales anywhere near Steam sales. And why do people keep pretending this system will have free online multiplayer. And why do people keep pretending like this system is anything like a PC to begin with or that the PC market has had a used market in a long time. Why do people keep pretendnig like DD is the same as a fucking disc?
Have you counted them?

I assume it works this way:
You trade it in at Gamestop, they pay the fees to MS and resell it.
You give/loan the game to your friend, your friend pays the fee to MS himself.

are you really going to argue that the majority is like you?![]()

Yeah, and if you buy games that way on PC that's your choice. The problem with consoles is that there is a very good chance we wont have a choice no matter how we buy.I can buy Steam games in retail. GAME has a huge section for them now, and they are just as expensive as other platform's games...
Sigh
IOS GAMES

I get the feeling they are looking right now. From the chatter I've been hearing Sony are working on a completely offline system for authorisation and deactivation and users will be allowed to deactivate games for resale themselves. I think it is related to the patent they filed early last year. I think games will be allowed an activation on up to 3 consoles like PSN games are atm. After you reach the limit it will ask you to deactivate the game on one of the three consoles. When you want to sell the game you can deactivate all of the consoles and trade it in.
At least that's what the chatter is right now. Obviously none of this information is from Sony, just chatter and rumours...

Sounds good, but will places like gamespot just increase the price of used games to cover what they will lose and pass the cost on to us? Also, how will renting work?
