Phil Harrison: Microsoft making $1B bet on Xbox One games

They have 15 first party games in development this year.

Hope you like your crow, GetemMa.

Was it first party games or 15 Exclusive games , i cant recall exactly, and wasnt it 15 games 12 months from launch. Would that not take it to last 3 months of 2014 aswell? Maybe a few games for next year wont be shown till E3 2014?

can't believe there's a backlash from gamers about a game company creating NEW IPS. yeesh

It's literally this at this point:

But Microsoft is definitely deserving of a lot of it with how they've handled the unveiling of their console thus far. If you're going to announce radical changes to the status quo, don't do so without concrete details in place. The only thing dumber than enacting the moves they've made, is doing so in a manner that is unclear and overly vague.

I thought Child of Eden worked......ok with Kinect, that was until we decided to change to the controller then we realised just how much better the game was with the controller, just like every other Kinect game, its a pos.

Child of Eden was better with move, and that's no joke/troll.

It is actually $510,000 rounded up to $1 billion.

Jokes aside, this is great to hear and I don't see why MS would BS this. I REALLY do think MS WILL bring it at E3.
Just give us some good new games AND make the anti consumer stuff a lot less of a problem ( just remove it?) and that could change A LOT of peoples opinion on the console.

Pretty sure Phil Spencer confirmed it was both, saying they were Microsoft studios games. At the very least some will be second party like Quantum Break i imagine.

well if that happens I will even boycott their Ratchet game. Not because I am butthurt but because I was very indiferent when they decided to go multi, and the reason they gave us.

But if they left sony only to go to MS (keeping the IP or not) I will never buy any game they make for Sony machine, exclusive or not. I hate hypocrites, that's all.

Just to repeat IF this turns out to be true.
This thread delivers.

The only thing that would make this any better is if Harrison leaves Microsoft to rejoin Sony.

Phil always had good intentions at Sony, but his plan didn't work out. He was BIG on Euro devs and he wanted Sony to focus on EyeToy but they never did....

After Phil left Sony, Guerrilla's CEO manipulated Sony to close all the other Sony Euro studios (some gaffer was railing against him a while back).

He made two very bad investments during his final days at Sony and they were LAIR and Heavenly Sword

This thread is hilarious.

"MS doesn't care about the core gamers."

"We have spent a billion dollars on internal game development."

"lol MS is desperate! Spending money won't help your first party!"

What do some of you want MS to do?

It's funny cause it's true

15 first party exclusive games, 8 of which are new IPs. Phil Spencer confirmed they are all Microsoft Studios.

You could be right about the timing, Yahoo article on this interview states this year though.

Dude don't take it so personally. I'm sure they had plans to release their own huge title(s) that would attract gamers on all platforms, then the reality struck and it became apparent Fuse wasn't going anywhere, they had difficulties finding a big 3rd party partner for their other project(s) so they had to sign a contract with anyone lest they had to fire people.
I'm not too excited either way, Ratchet/Resistance/Fuse never resonated with me.

Microsoft will never win public favor, especially here. That said, I'm looking forward to what it is they are trying to do with their new console.

sacrifice a virgin

I agree the MS hate is redickulous, Lets all hate on Microsoft no matter what the good news is because its the cool thing to do.

300 Mill of that is going to 343. ;)
I am happy with this.

Insomniac is not doing anything for MS exclusive. I don't know where this crap gets started. And of course MS will have games - eight of which were on the screen briefly shown. Of those, the Rare game shown looks like garbage, Halo, Forza, Ryse, were all there.

There will be a butload of Kinect including a Fitness, Sports, and Dance game that are all fully Kinect. Most everything else is Kinect-enhanced in some form or fashion. Gamers who don't like Kinect aren't going to like this show, except for the third party announcements.

There will also be CoD in some form, as well as Titan. No indie games whatsoever, as MS has treated them like dirt and they all have moved to Nintendo and Sony. If you like Indie games, this isn't the platform for you. The Xbone will sell well in the USA (because Americans don't care about anti-consumer policies), and pretty much nowhere else initially. Eventually, after they show the next Halo game, that might change.

Definitely not the system for me. I hate anti-consumer policies, and MS has shown their true hand. They couldn't win me even if they bought TLG from Sony as an exclusive. I don't support companies who do those things. But many do - look at Live

It's probably known but $1 billion for projects, including creation of new studios over a span of 2-3 years, is not that much..hope he didn't include their marketing budget in that number.

What if Insomniac go 100% Xbox exclusive? Maybe he is just sad about that possibility?

MS already has public favor in this industry and has had it for the past 7 years. And it will probably continue when Sony announces the exact same policies. MS actually can focus on this $1 billion investment in games at E3 while Sony will have to spill the beans on their industry friendly policies.

Oh please you hated them before the XB1 was even shown. The thing that annoys me is when obvious Warriors attempt to use the DRM thing as justification, when previous posts pretty much spelled out their obvious slants.

Microsoft really have upset me since the reveal but what you say is true and thats just the nature of this forum, Bad Microsoft news is exaggerated to extreme levels and good Microsoft news is twisted into bad news. Its almost the complete opposite of what happens with Sony and the PS4 on here.

That's why I can only take NeoGaf in small doses. It's like watching FOX News sometimes.

LOL, that is a TON of money man. Absolutely DWARFS studio costs of any previous console launch.

Here we go.

This is huge!

What a great way to one-up Sony having Bungie on their stage.

To be clear this would not be anything remotely close to having Bungie on stage. Not to be mean or anything but Insomniac really isn't expected move sales in the same way.

Sounds like MS is doing their own version of Gaikai.

That's really not different from how X360 has worked for years with Gamertags profiles and DD-content with Gold cloud saves. The only thing here is that they can start playing after a certain percentage of the DD game has downloaded while logged-in as opposed to waiting for the whole disc image to download before starting.

Maybe I am wrong, but it seems like Phil was saying that the user does not have to take their game to a friends house ("the data can roam with me"). They simply need to log in to their account (at the friends house), and the game will just be streamed from the cloud to the system.

Right. The account log-in allows them to play and download their purchases or licensed content on another console while logged-in. That's for DD games now while the next-gen approach will, since they can tie physical games to accounts, allow someone who bought a physical title to download the equivalent DD version and play on another system. (Obviously, they could also still just bring the disc with them to play on another unit instead of downloading it.) Anyone logged-in alongside them will be able to play that game as long as the license owner is still logged-in during a current session. That's what I understand that's changed from all of the articles and quotes, anyway.

I just wish Kinect would die already and making it mandatory now for the console to function is horrible. Used games still sound like crap.

So if I wanted to borrow my friends game I would either have to:

A) Have to play with his account signed in(haha)
B) Put the disc in and buy the game at full price(wtf Microsoft)
or
C) Just go out and purchase the new game

Goodbye to borrowing/trading/playing used games

What does this have to do with Ratchet? They have multiple studios now, they can develop both side by side.

yea it will upset a lot of Playstation fanboys

because they are what they are thanks to PS and PS fans. They said that they went multi because they wanted to reach as many people as possible and retain IP. I was fine with that logic.
But to backtrack on that and go on xbox exclusive side, would not be nice to PS fans, it just would not after all the things they said. I am not going to support hypocrites in that case. I would rather see ratcher in sanzaru hands then, then to give money to insomniac.

But l repeat this is just in case IF this turns out to be true, which I don't believe it is

I think there was some fallout between Insomniac and Sony, someone on neogaf shed some light on the issue, but Insomniac's community manager shot it down. We will see what happens at E3

Don`t care. I don`t want their anti-consumer console.

You care.

Insomniac are a company, they ultimately make games to make money, not placate fanboys.

That said I'm skeptical of this rumor too, even if it's source is known to be rock solid reliable.

I would like to read about this, do you have a link (don't bother yourself if you don't know where it is)? thanks either way

100% fine by me, but I can also make choice, don't see why that bothers you?

Just like today, if you have a game disc that you buy from the store, you can play that game. The game is now installed to the hard drive. Any user who is associated with that Xbox One can play that game. I can give that game disc to my son and he can go and take it to another machine inside the house and play it on that machine. Just like today, only one of us can play it at any one time.

The difference, though — the benefit of Xbox One is that that data can roam with me. I can go to my friend’s house. I can log in as myself into his machine. I can then play that game on his machine, and while I’m logged in, he can play it as well.

So he can give the game to his son to play, but he has to log in for his son or else it won't work. This is so obviously deceptive.

Those of us using Steam (or indeed, existing console download services) said our farewells years ago. The master race welcomes you into the future.

Aww... you sound hurt.

Have some chocolate milk and take a nap, maybe you'll feel better?

We have a couple of cool examples of that where — even though your game is a fundamentally controller-based experience — the voice becomes this augmented menu system. Previously, you’d have to go down N number of menu trees to get to a particular feature. Now you can just say it. That’s pretty cool.
This doesn't sound bad at all. Say a word and instantly get into that sub menu

How can you call the Rare game garbage based off a tiny blurry thumbnail image?
